Senate conservatives are warning President Trump and their own leaders to tread carefully in the gun-control debate and caution they risk a political backlash by striking a deal with Democrats to expand background checks for firearms sales.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Thursday said if Republicans strike a deal with Democrats to require all firearms sales over the Internet or at gun shows to go through background checks, they would demoralize their conservative base ahead of next year’s presidential election.

I am already demoralized. Sales over the internet are already background checked. The seller must send the gun to a licensed FFL dealer, who does the background check before you can take possession. That little service costs you extra; about $50 in my area.
All gun show sales are also background checked already. The last one I went to had signs all over that said any private sales on the property, to include in the parking lot, would be reported to the police.
I hope the president doesn't sell us out on this but fear he will. One more nail in freedom's coffin, brought to you by our own. I think I better go buy a couple more ugly guns.

Like #1 said. Internet sales, gun show sales DO have background checks already, Must be done through licensed dealers.
The much bandied "Gun Show Loophole" has not existed for 41 years.
When these idiot politicians and idiot 'reporters' don't have a clue what the actual laws are, (or do have a clue but choose to lie about it for political reasons), it is ridiculous for them to talk about making new laws.

In Michigan, I can sell a long gun legally to whomever I wish. Handguns have to be registered with the police by the seller and a background check has to be made on the buyer. And ANY gun purchased from a dealer, who has to be licensed, is subjected to a background check. For me, not a big deal. 5 minutes on the computer and a little waiting for the result and you make your purchase.
I still say to the gun grabbers: Make your most ferocious background check list. Citizenship. Legal record. Convictions. Restraining orders. Birth and driving records. Set it up on the computers. and then require that everyone who wants to vote takes it and must pass to vote. Have a renewal every, say, 4 years.
That way, if you are registered to vote, you buy a gun. Just show your registration at the counter.

Deny weapon sales to all registered democrats and you’ve solved 99% of your mass shooting problem.

Say it again: Every internet sale is now police checked by a dealer!
All gun law debate acknowledges that existing gun laws don't work for criminals.
President Bush's support of the Assault Rifle law cost him reelection and we got Clinton.

I purchased my first gun from a licensed dealer who worked out of his own home. I had to go through a background check and this was in 2000.

The democrats lie about gun issues, just like they lie about everything else. Like Muslims, they believe that lying to your enemy is justified.

Only a fool would think all this will keep a gun out of the hands of an illegal, a crazy person, or an confirmed gangster or professional crook. Law abiding gun owners already KNOW the rules and follow them.

Even Ted Cruz missed it with the statement 'internet sales'. The internet is just a shopping device and when I purchased a few firearms (availability and price shopping) I had to fax a dealer copy of FFL so the firearms could be sent there and a background check is then done on me. It's was the same at a gun show when I purchased a new handgun I filled out a form and a background check was done right there before I could pay and walk out with the gun.
Politicians should know the laws that they themselves make or they sound stupid when they propose or debate said laws.
The President better tread lightly along with Ted Cruz and don't join in with Nancy Pelosi because there's no turning back in the debate of Second Amendment "Rights" that shall not be infringed.

NO COMPROMISE!
All new and interstate sales, new or used, are already background checked.
O ly private, same state sales are free, in most states. Some states already require this, and criminals ignore this law, TOO!
These laws only inconvenience the law abiding, never the criminals.
NO COMPROMISE. End. Stop.

Sound advice. "Shall not be infringed" is still the rule and we expect it to remain so. Every firearm I have purchased required a background check, gun shows included. Any more intrusion or discussion of "closing loopholes" will not be tolerated. Dealing with democrats is like dealing with the devil, no difference. Donald Trump is still the only sane choice but he needs to be careful and I'm sure he knows that.

I live in Indiana and it is a free state where private citizens can sell, in state, to other private citizen residents w/out a background check, just as the constitution intends.
