T. Boone Pickens, the onetime Texas oil wildcatter turned corporate raider who became a billionaire energy investor and television pitchman for wind and natural-gas power, has died. He was 91. He died Wednesday of natural causes, according to spokesman Jay Rosser. Pickens’s primary residence was in Dallas. In late 2016, he posted a message on his LinkedIn page announcing he had “several strokes” and then had a “Texas-sized fall” requiring hospital treatment. He said he was still mentally strong

I knew Boone. I grew up in Amarillo with his kids. He was smart. He worked hard. He got upside down investing in natural gas when prices dropped to $2. Amarillo sits on top of one of the largest gas reserves in the world. He bounced back when he acquired companies that he thought were undervalued. Libs referred to it as “greenmail.” It was just good business. He became a billionaire. I drove his Dad to West Texas A & M when he audited the rise Western Civilization class in his 80s. I was trying to graduate, he didn’t drive. Nice family. Had typical issues when you’re that rich. He was one of the most successful men to come out of Amarillo TX. The exception might be Richard Anderson. He became CEO of Delta. I believe he is now in charge of Amtrak. He was an Amarillo native. Rick loves to solve problems. He has his hands full wit Amtrak! Hoping he’ll retire to my hometown Austin.

He wanted to install hundreds of windmills in rural Texas.....and asked the Texas state government to "merely" build the power lines to connect to his windmills. The Texas government checked the costs of the power lines to nowhere.....billions. They decided against providing free infrastructure to Mr. Pickens, and the project (thankfully) never went anywhere. I imagine that now states and the federal government are falling all over themselves to waste more tax payer money on garbage like this.

I tell people "In the old days, we didn't take from the rich, we wanted to be rich like them" This man was a self made man who worked his way into wealth. Thank goodness he passed before the likes of Elizabeth and Bernie took his wealth from him. Rest in peace.

During Thursday night’s Democratic presidential primary debate in Houston, former U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro attacked former Vice President Joe Biden over his health care plan, saying that it would leave many Americans uninsured.“The difference between what I support and what you support, Vice President Biden, is that you require them to opt in, and I would not require them to opt in. They would automatically be enrolled, they wouldn’t have to buy in,” Castro said to Biden.“You do not have to buy in,” Biden responds.

Gun control featured prominently in the third Democratic debate in Houston, with most of the 10 candidates trying to one-up each other on the issue while also jabbing repeatedly at President Trump. The Democratic White House hopefuls gathered on stage at Texas Southern University, a historically black college about 700 miles from El Paso, where 22 people died in an August shooting massacre, and 500 miles from Midland-Odessa, where eight people died weeks later in another rampage. Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, who represented El Paso in Congress, won praise from many of his rivals for his leadership after tragedy shook his hometown.

As it did in 1992, the anti-Republican media is covering Trump’s economy as negatively as possible while keeping a straight face. After all, unemployment is at historical lows, most Americans feel optimistic about their own economic future, and most credit Trump with the growing economy. Trump’s predecessor was the first president since 1949 to preside over an economic recovery without a single year averaging at least 3% gross domestic product growth. But Democrats, the media and Trump-hating pundits seem almost giddy at the prospect of a recession.Last year, multimillionaire comedian and HBO talk show host Bill Maher openly rooted for it: “Can I ask about the economy?

And here's why:1. It's a field test of a policy proposal. Nothing is less scientific in America than public policy. Looking for evidence is unheard of, much less conducting experiments. Yang here is running a pilot program for his central policy proposal: A Universal Basic Income that provides $1,000 to every family every month.Of course it's not a full test, as there will be macroeconomic effects of giving $120,000 to more than

Early Monday morning, Donald Trump tweeted: “94% Approval Rating in the Republican Party, a record. Thank you!” Where the president got this specific number remains a mystery. Recent polls by YouGov put his GOP approval roughly ten points lower, and Gallup, which has tracked Trump’s popularity since he took office, puts him at 88 percent. But I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that Trump used his Sharpie to round up his score. He’s deeply invested in being — or at least claiming to be — the most popular Republican president in history.

Other lines of attack have come to naught: Collusion with Russia, accusations of racism provoking outbursts of mass murder (by uttering “racially charged statements,” in the inadvertently Orwellian words of CNN’s most witless talking head, Don Lemon), the verbal recession confected by the world-renowned economists of CNN and MSNBC, all of it has collapsed. Good advice. It is a curiosity how a self-declaring Christian can still stand strong on the side of abortion rights. This is what Buttigieg said a few days ago on a “Breakfast Club” radio interview: “Right now, [conservatives] hold everybody in line with this one piece of doctrine about abortion, which is obviously a tough issue

The Congressional Budget Office reported on Tuesday that, with one month to go, the federal deficit for fiscal year 2019 has already topped $1 trillion. As night follows day, Trump administration critics blamed the tax cuts. And once again, the data prove them wrong. The CBO report says that the federal deficit reached $1.067 by the end of August. That’s up $168 billion from the comparable period in fiscal year 2018. The deficit this year will be larger than the entire budget was in 1987. Where did the increase come from? Why, tax cuts, of course.

On Tuesday, fifteen officials from the White House toured Skid Row in Los Angeles with the head of a local homeless shelter. “Four or five of them were from the Environmental Protection Agency,” Rev. Andy Bales of Union Mission church told me. “That’s because human waste flows into storm sewers.” California is home to some of the world’s toughest environmental and public health laws, but skyrocketing homelessness has created an environmental and public health disaster. The 44,000 people living, eating, and defecating on the streets of L.A. have brought rats and medieval diseases including typhus. Garbage is everywhere. Experts fear the return of cholera and leprosy. And homelessness
