Nearly every American above a certain age remembers precisely where they were on September 11, 2001. For a small handful of Americans—many of them among the most senior officials in the U.S. government—that day conjures memories of a bunker underneath the White House, built for the Cold War but never used until that Tuesday morning 18 years ago. What had begun as an odd incident, with the crash of American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m., quickly escalated 17 minutes later when United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower. As the world realized the country was under attack,

What did Trump think the Taliban is? 10 replies

President Trump was to have met with leaders of the Taliban this weekend. The get together was to have occurred at Camp David. The goal was to finalize a deal under which the U.S. would effectively pull out of Afghanistan, leaving it to the Taliban’s tender mercies. I agree with Rep. Liz Cheney who said: Camp David is where America’s leaders met to plan our response after al Qaeda, supported by the Taliban, killed 3000 Americans on 9/11. No member of the Taliban should set foot there. Ever. We certainly should not use Camp David to put the finishing touches on abandoning Afghanistan,

As the $90-plus million release of IT: Chapter Two proved last weekend, America loves scary clowns. But when you consider that four of them — Bernie Sanders, Lizzie Warren, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris — all beat President Trump in the latest polls, it’s not fun: it’s just scary. All four, and the others still in the race competing for the Dems’ vice-presidential nomination, are obsessed with making it much harder — and in some cases impossible — for Americans to lawfully possess and use firearms. All four would revive the federal ban on sale of “assault weapons” — whatever they are — and impose universal background checks on gun sales.

The Coast Guard Investigative Service served search warrants on Truth Aquatics, the owner of the diving boat that was swallowed up by flames off the California coast on Labor Day, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Eric Raney told CNN. "This is all just part of the ongoing investigation," Raney said. "The Coast Guard was assisted by ATF which is investigating the fire and the FBI which has expertise in criminal investigations." Of the 39 people who were aboard the 75-foot dive boat Conception that weekend, only five crew members were found alive. The others, who were in the lower sleeping deck, likely got trapped when the fire
Democrats Need to Get More Ruthless 14 replies

How important do Democrats think it is to beat President Trump in 2020? Obviously, most Democrats would say it’s vitally important. Four more years of the Trump presidency could allow him to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. It would worsen the climate crisis. It could cement his paranoid racism and scorn for democracy as the new American normal. Given these consequences, you would think that Democrats would be approaching the 2020 campaign with a ruthless sense of purpose. But they’re not, at least not yet. They are not focusing on issues that expose Trump’s many vulnerabilities. They have instead devoted substantial time to wonky subjects that excite

Americans are normalizing violence in their politics, but not in the way the media and the “experts” would have you believe. No, “white supremacists” are not the greatest threat to your safety, despite what Don Lemon and his cohorts in the Fake News Industrial Complex say. In fact, of 250 shootings in America wherein four or more people were shot (which is the official definition of a “mass” shooting), not one of the perpetrators was a conservative, let alone a “white nationalist.” But that hasn’t stopped the Democrats. It has been more than two months since the gay Asian journalist Andy Ngo was brutally attacked by Antifa a block

No one loved the Avia S-199 at first sight. Perched on narrow, splayed-out landing gear, the Czech-built fighter had a sinister look that made pilots and potential buyers wary. And when airmen became better acquainted with the long-snouted warplane, the wariness turned to distrust. The single-engine S-199 was a product of the Avia Company in Czechoslovakia, which had tooled up to produce Messerschmitt Bf 109s for the German Luftwaffe just as World War II ended. After the war, the company opted to manufacture a version of the Messerschmitt fighter for the Czech air force. The Daimler-Benz DB 605 V-12 engine, which had propelled the Bf 109, was no longer available,

The vast majority of the things police officers do are extraordinary — from thwarting additional mass shooting casualties in Dayton to getting a narcotics suspect to surrender after an intense shootout in Philadelphia. They do this all while preserving the lives of those on scene, including children. Many view their heroism with awe and gratitude. But, these positive stories are often overshadowed by negative ones — such as the one about mounted Galveston cops leading an African American suspect with a rope — in which police officers are relentlessly demonized as insensitive and racist. Because social media sometimes operates in its own bubble, not many understand how deeply this overpowering negativity

Elizabeth Warren, the 2020 Democrat presidential hopeful and former Harvard professor, believes private equity companies are parasites on the economy. The Massachusetts senator describes the business model of private equity firms as being “like vampires — bleeding the company dry and walking away enriched even as the company succumbs.” Who knew that investing growth capital in promising businesses or working capital in struggling businesses was a blood-sucking endeavor? According to Warren, private equity firms like Eberhart Capital are engaged in “legalized looting” when we roll the dice and risk our own money to help others realize their vision. This somehow makes the investor Dracula reincarnated,

Everyone once in a while, even if by accident, liberals tell you who they really are, what they think, and what they want to do. Whether it slips out or they deliberately put it down in a statement, it’s a quick little glimpse into what’s going on in the void behind their vacant eyes. This week saw a few of these glimpses. It was a bit of irony that the same people who spent years insisting pouring water up the nose of the man who masterminded the September 11th attacks was torture, would inflict 7 hours of Democrats babbling about climate change on the American people. Luckily, and sensibly,

ThinkProgress, a top progressive website operated by the liberal think tank, Center for American Progress, is shutting down on Friday after a 15-year run. The decision was made after the site was unable to find a buyer. The Center for American Progress (CAP) has tried to sell off the website after operating for years in the red, according to The Daily Beast. “Given that we could find no new publisher, we have no other real option but to fold the ThinkProgress website back into CAP’s broader online presence with a focus on analysis of policy, politics, and news events through the lens of existing CAP and CAP Action staff experts,”

Beto O’Rourke this week claimed, without evidence (because there is none), that failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams was robbed of the governor’s mansion in 2018. This is a lie, of course, and a contemptible one that undermines our democracy. But at least it is a step up from the former congressman's campaign attempts to make his response to mass shootings go viral. “A man from Georgia asked me what I will do about voting rights,” read the former Texas congressman and 2020 Democratic primary candidate’s Twitter feed Thursday evening. “That’s because, were it not for voter suppression, Stacey Abrams would be governor right now. We need a New Voting Rights Act,

Back during the Bubba era, there was something known as “Clinton Fatigue,” occasioned by an endless parade of tawdry scandals, so many it was hard to keep track of them: sex, money, foreign influence and even the occasional mysterious demise or two — not to mention impeachment.

Bill Maher addressed the obesity epidemic in a monologue he delivered Friday night at the end of his program 'Real Time' on HBO. Maher criticized the culture that protects people from judging others, especially when it comes to "fat-shaming." Maher said fat-shaming doesn't need to end, it needs to make a comeback. The comedian said shaming and judging are necessary and the first step in reform. "I know this is a controversial thing to say now in today's America but being fat is a bad thing," Maher said. "We shouldn't taunt people about it. And overeating shouldn't be singled out as the only vice. It isn't. We all have something.
