Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford on Sunday announced he will challenge Donald Trump for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination in 2020, becoming the third member of his party to do so.
Sanford, in an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” said he believes the GOP needs to have a conversation about what it means to be a Republican, adding: “We have lost our way.”
The former governor, who was also a congressman from 1995 to 2001 and 2013 to 2019, highlighted in particular a need to discuss the country’s ballooning debt and deficits, as well as Trump’s turn toward trade protectionism.

Help me out here, is this the same Mark Sanford who left his wife when he was governor of SC and made up some tale about hiking the Appalachian trail? He now professes to tell us about morality and finding our way?

Whenever a need "to have a conversation" is mentioned, my ears shut down, probably because it is so often used in relation to race, which is very much over-conversed. This time, however, it is in relation to motives. My ears still shut down.

"We have lost our way." Define "we".
Sanford was AWOL. His campaign ads should be on the back of milk cartons.

A democrat in a RINO suit.
If it looks a Democrat
If it behaves like a Democrat
If it pontificates like a Democrat
By golly, it’s a Democrat!

If by 'losing our way' means we are no longer on the path to cultural suicide then I fail to see how this is a bad thing. If by 'losing our way' means we are no longer going to put the interests of other nations and multi-national corporations ahead of the American working class then I fail to see how this is a bad thing. If by 'losing our way' means we will no longer expend our blood and treasure on conflicts that do not advance the well being of the American nation then I fail to see how this is a bad thing.
I guess Gov. Sanford would like us to continue down the path of national ruin by expending ourselves in pointless bloody pursuits overseas and ignoring the destruction of our national character at home.
Maybe I am wrong. I would like Gov. Sanford to clearly articulate what is wrong, why he believes it is wrong, and how exactly he plans to correct it.

Poor choice of words, Mark! The very same guy who went in a hike in the Mountains in South Carolina and wound up in Argentina! NOBODY knew where he was, and he was the GOVERNOR of the State. I don't think we want someone who is so confused he doesn't even realize he can't just disappear when he's in CHARGE of a State. Would he do the same thing if he was President?

Between Billy Weld, Joe whats'his name, and now Mark Sanford, they've succeeded in dividing up the never-Trumper vote three ways. Now each of them will have to work hard just to get their own relatives' votes.

Wrong messenger. There are legitimate criticisms and concerns about the Trumpian takeover of what once was the only place for conservatives.
It is more selective, however, than Sanford is able to criticize given his own misfeasance. A better choice would be someone who could lay out the case for free trade and for more circumspection in rhetoric and the use of tweets; while acknowledging the wisdom of our efforts to constrict Iran's widespread terrorism and the moving of our embassy to Jerusalem. As with any president, there is a mixed bag. A reasonable analysis will not, however, come from Sanford's candidacy.

Sanford should know by now that not everyone can successfully run for public office and should therefore find another line of work. He's one who cannot take the lesson. Romney, H. Clinton, Gore and Heb Bush are others who should have found another line of work. Apparently, the money to be made as a "public servant" is too great.
DisclaimerI, for one, know I cannot run for public office, so I have pursued another career.

The “Love Gov” lost his way all the way down to Argentina. He may not get how wrong his assessment of the President is, but does he really not get the irony of his words or the presumptive that he’s the one to change things for the better?

You (singular) lost your way years ago along with the RINO movement! When you lost your will to fight for what is good for America for popularity with Democrats...your time ended! One must take a stand at some point and say truth is truth and lies are lies. There isn't a middle ground! And you sir, can't tell the difference anymore! Good luck...
