President Trump said Thursday he’s preparing to announce a “giant package” to boost demand for ethanol, responding to rising concerns in rural America about the administration’s exemptions for refineries from blending biofuels.
“The Farmers are going to be so happy when they see what we are doing for Ethanol, not even including the E-15, year around, which is already done,” the president tweeted. “It will be a giant package, get ready! At the same time I was able to save the small refineries from certain closing. Great for all!”(Snip) Mr. Perdue said one proposal would strengthen infrastructure to allow greater use of E15,

Ethanol is a STUPID idea. It damages small engines and and dilutes gasoline. It also means we are putting food in our gas tank

I just wish if he wants to increase production, he would do it for export only. We hate the stuff and find that even though non-ethanol gas is more expensive, you win in the end because you get MUCH better gas mileage - and it doesn't gum up the engine. We have always bought it for our small gardening engines. When we lived in northern IL, we had to go to Iowa to buy non-ethanol because the larger cities close to us in IL didn't even sell it.

This is the single most important item that I disagree with PDT. Ethanol is for drinking, not driving. The prices are artificially supported by these actions, believe me, the land would be put to another profitable use if subsidies went away.

Most auto manufacturers said they will void warranties if E85 becomes the standard fuel. Engines cannot handle the resulting corrosion and clogs that come from condensation of the ethanol. There are no ethanol pipelines so it has to be trucked to other facilities to be 'splash blended' so you have extra transportation pollutants. Not to mention that it uses more energy to produce than it gives, You also have no real way of knowing what you are getting. The splash blend process is not accurate so you could end up getting 5% to 20% or more depending on how well it was blended. All in all a terrible idea to assuage the corn farmers of America which is a hidden tax on all of us from higher prices at the pump to increased cost for beef, pork, poultry...

At least around here in Texas you can go to Bucee's and still get ethanol free gas. I stock up for my lawn equipment every month.

Dammit. This is a TERRIBLE idea. Horrible plan. Even more of that harmful CR*P polluting our gas, lowering our gas mileage and ruining our small engines?
Very, very bad idea.
I will be contacting the White House on this.

A byproduct of ethanol production is a large amount of carbon dioxide. What aren't the greens complaining?

Ethanol is going to be the agricultural welfare for a long time just like windmills are for electricity. Wait until corn flakes are $9 a box and tortillas hit $2/dozen.

Where is the environmental outrage? You burn more petroleum (polluting the air) than you make in ethanol (which also pollutes the air). Twice the air pollution as just burning petroleum... Then there is all the pollution in making fertilizer, planting, fertilizing, harvesting... and let's not forget stream runoff from those massive internationally owned corporate corn fields.
Funny how selective the environmental community is about something like massive amounts of unnecessary pollution. It's almost like they have another agenda altogether.

I know he is trying to help the farmers, but he is going the wrong direction on this. Ethanol should be completely removed from gasoline.

We all love Trump - - but this is the dumbest idea he has ever had.
It smacks of big government, big brother mandates and subsidies. Just the type of nonsense that leftists, socialists, and commies love to force on us.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Let's hope there are no more lamebrain notions like this coming our way.

I truly was hoping President Trump would shut off corn as a fuel. Gasoline has always worked better and is far better for your engine. At this point in time this is the most disappointing thing Trump has done. Please, Mr. President, do not made fuel out of corn.

The only reason farmers are committed to growing corn, rather than other crops, is the Government Subsidy makes it more profitable. Also, because corn is used as animal feed, corn syrup, and a filler ingredient for a variety of pre-packaged foods, supply and demand keeps corn at a artificial high price when so much of the crop is diverted to ethanol.

Dammit, this is just plain wrong, for all the reasons previous posters have listed. Any chance of bribing one of Trump’s advisers to go smack him upside his head and tell him not to do this?

What better way for a Trump to shift our outrage from his decision NOT to prosecute Comey than to announce this ethanol madness. He is just another pandering politician after all.
Also, I don’t love Trump. He’s just better than all Democrats and RINOs. But his shocking lack of interest in the Obama / Hillary corruption and this ethanol giveaway in order to offset his tariff war with China lessens his appeal.

Some places have had mandatory ethanol contamination at the pump for over a decade (e.g. Nebraska, where the strategy to push drivers to ethanol had been to have a no-ethanol surcharge, but even that wasn't enough to dissuade drivers' preference for it). California didn't directly order it, but removing disclosure requirements entices distributors to sell all gas with it, because they can buy it more cheaply than regular gas, and now drivers don't know it's in what they're buying.

No, no no. The damage of ethanol is well known. Here in central Florida we're gassing up the generators again. Unless the owner used non-eth last time it ran, it's likely it won't start this time. I'm going to drive 20 miles now to fill cans at one of the few stations that sells REAL gas.

I'm in a few automobile clubs, mostly catering to older classics. Down here is the Deep South, there are a plethora of classic car clubs and classic shows and cruises every weekend. I'm sure there are many clubs in the rest of the country as well. Ethanol laced gas is just plain ruinous to older engines. I wouldn't expect a billionaire to understand that, and apparently, none of his advisors understand it either. Corn has many good things it can be used for, but powering automobiles is not one of them.

Well, the Deep State socialists and Crony Crapitalists win another one today. Between this, and the Comey 'exoneration', I'm pretty depressed right now.
I didn't expect that Comey would get what he deserves, but I didn't expect Trump would promote such idiocy.

I get it; Archer Daniels Midland needs to make as much money as possible, because what's good for ADM is good for the USA. However, why do the rest of us not have The Right to Choose uncontaminated gasoline without the ethanol?
