As we close out the film industry’s biggest earning season, it looks like the summer was a mixed bag for Hollywood. If you’re Disney, you have everything to rave about; if you’re another studio, it wasn’t so easy.
Last weekend, Universal became only the second studio to earn a $1 billion this year, well behind The House of Mouse. Combined, Universal and Warner Brothers have released 20 titles this year, and still lag behind Disney’s seven releases by about $800 million.
The homogenized market only continued throughout the summer. For 16 weeks in a row the top film was based upon an existing property.

I'm proud to say I didn't see any of these. Even prouder that I've never heard of most.

Today's movies are boring and soooo predictable. We tried to find a movie on Prime Time the other night. Couldn't find one. None seem to have plot or character. They all seem to be made for special effects and violent murder and mayhem. That is not entertainment. The studio's are putting out trailers about the new horror movies to expect this fall. They could not pay me to go see one. Hollywood is sick.

They all bombed as far as I'm concerned because I'm done with movies for a number of reasons. The only reason for Disney's success is because kids don't know any better and will choose any passtime that involves sitting inside and watching a screen.

Gave up on Hollywood and have not looked backed. Why give a dime to these anti-American globalist zealots? I just won’t do it. I don’t miss it either. I am offended by the content and the hubris of the actors who try and tell me how to live my life. No thanks. I look at the tabloids in the supermarket line and am proud I don’t recognize any of the faces and for what it’s worth, today’s music stinks! Now all I have to say to complete this rant is, get off my lawn!

My personal collection of DVD's is all I need. We still have Netflix (despite Hussein's deal) and I watch Forensic Files a couple times a week. The cinema is dead to me.

I was aware of three of these movies, the cartoon Pets sequel and the MIB and Shaft "reboot", honestly never heard of the others.

Last movie I saw was The Darkest Hour in late 2017. Movies are mostly action adventure made for teenage American boys and the international market. I watch very little TV except for sports and the weather.

The article's right. Hollywood's a mess. On the other hand, Marvel Studios is making terrific movies. If you're looking to be entertained, the first Iron Man with Robert Downey Jr is a good place to start. Captain America: First Avenger introduces the other key character and sets up the first Avengers movie. However, the best films are the ones directed by the Russo Brothers. They tell a linear, connected story over four films, and the stakes get higher with each one.
The Russo brothers' Captain America: Winter Soldier is not just a good superhero movie; it's a great movie, period. Captain America Civil War followed as a superhero team-up movie that ended with real tragedy and pathos.
However, nothing I'd seen in the past prepared me for Avengers: Infinity War. When it was over, I called my girlfriend, and she asked me how it was. I said I wasn't sure because I was still in shock. It's that good. Avengers: Endgame, which weaves the threads of 22 Marvel Studios movies together in a finale that has to be seen to be believed, might be even better. I recommend them to you.
A word about some of the common criticisms. Yes, they are comic book characters and yes, there are special effects. However I learned long ago not to judge movies by their source material. Snow White was just a fairytale before it became one of the most beloved films of all time. And special effects, whether digital or otherwise, are simply part of a storyteller's toolkit. It's how they're used that counts.
One last point for conservative curmudgeons like me. With the regrettable exception of Black Panther, Marvel Studios has remained scrupulously neutral when it comes to political commentary in their films. They tell great stories with fine actors, and that's all I need from them.
I'm grateful to Marvel Studios for making movies worth seeing.

When you produce movies that are mostly special effects that are devoid of a story line, no wonder people don't want to go see them.

It's getting to the point that I have to change channels when an older movie is shown because I hate the actors. Hollywood and California doesn't exist in my world. Did I tell you I watched Ronald Reagan on GRIT tv as a cavalry officer and enjoyed every minute of it. The Duke is on this evening. I've quit watching sports except for Little League baseball. The last movie I viewed in a theater was Churchill but I had to hear all the noise from the theater next door it was so loud also too expensive to attend.

Zero talent left in Hollyweird, and they keep making dreck, and the movies are often populated with "stars" which many of us DESPISE.
I have been advised by my millenial friend to get over my serious aversion to Tarantino and see "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".....and the second nail in the coffin was when he told me DiCaprio was a star.
I truly despise DiCaprio because he is a damned extreme leftist puke, endlessly spouting drivel about "climate change" as he lives the high life and flies around the world on private jets so he can tell us "deplorables" how much WE are 'killing the planet'.
I suppose I might get past Tarantino.....but I am really having trouble getting past supporting DiCaprio.
At this point....I am about 80% against going, just CAN'T feel right put money in DiCARPIO's pocket.

The last movie I saw in a theater was Apollo 13. Like others, I am tired of Hollywood's preaching to me about how I should think and feel but the main reasons I don't go anymore are numerous. Too loud...the trailers they showed before Apollo 13 actually hurt my ears and I am hard of hearing. Too expensive for what you get. I pay a few bucks a month for Amazon Prime and Acorn. You can't buy popcorn and a coke at the theater for that amount now. I can stream a movie at home, pause it and the bathroom and fridge are a few steps away. It's become a no-brainer for me.

Author says the 2014 Godzilla movie was a hit. Honestly, I couldn’t tell. It was a film full of scenes at night that I couldn’t see and that is a death sentence for a sci-fi action movie.

Rarely go to movies, but I saw “The Art of Racing in the Rain” last week and loved it. A few changes were made from the book, probably in the interest of time, but it was very well done.

The influence peddlers in America are hurting because we normals see through their dirty political poisoning of movies and tv and newspapers.
The golden age is dead.
Killed by hateful rats on the left.
They’ll never get a dime from me. Ever.
These liberal influence-peddlers always ruin everything we used to patronize.
Hope it changes for the better.
Some day.
Maybe they’ll make a movie titled
“When all the democrats left America and headed to Venezuela”...
I’ll go see that one at the drive-in!

The motion picture theater association must be furious that Hollyweird can't find a winning formula these days, short of 1970's re.makes and the latest grade school animated do-overs. It must stink to be an actor these days, as they're no doubt finding far less pay than 20 years ago.

I don't even remember the name of the last movie I saw, but I know that it has literally been YEARS since I've been in a movie theater. I have better things to spend my money on than Hollyweird dreck that insults me, my beliefs and my intelligence. Luckily I still have an amazing collection of classics made before Hollyweird leftists took over.

Pathetic fare. This selection is like reading the menu at a greasy spoon diner where the only thing that differs is the brand of ketchup on the table. Since hollywood people are supposed to be the best and brightest in the country, how can they fail to knock our socks off with their brilliance? The only names I recognized were Diane Keaton and Mark Hammill, who are ancient by hollywood standards

#13, I didn’t want to put money in DeCaprio’s pocket either, but decided to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It’s the only movie worth seeing in my opinion. Actually, DeCaprio and Brad Pitt are likeable in the movie and are great in their roles. I read the book The Art of Racing in the Rain and loved it, so I’ll see that movie also.
