'I'm Radioactive'

Until the spring of 2018, Jonathan Kaiman was the Beijing bureau chief of the Los Angeles Times. Today he is living at the home of his parents in Phoenix under conditions he describes as a form of psychological house arrest. There are no visitors, and his few remaining friends rarely call. He feels unable to make new ones, because he fears the reaction of anyone who Googles him. He's 32, unemployed, and perhaps unemployable—"I'm radioactive," as he puts it. And he's still trying to find the right combination of psychotropic medication to quell the recurrent thought that ending his life may be the best way out.

Comments:

A truly frightening account of what the #Metoo movement has done. Any man who has a 'hookup" in the current environment is at risk.

This is why men send for mail order brides from former Russian republics, Thailand and The Philippines. American women have become impossible to understand. Today's less-than-stellar sexual encounter becomes tomorrow's "abuse" or even "rape." Those women will be the spinster crazy cat ladies of the future. No sane man would go near any woman who graduated from a liberal college with anything other than an engineering degree.

Over and over again this is happening in our society and I don't know why someone doesn't point it out. The media, the legal system, and society in general are taking things OUT OF CONTEXT. It leads to false, erroneous conclusions. You can't shove everything sexual under the #MeToo meme. There are too many variables---such as predatory behaviors that happened 25-30 years ago, THERE WERE NO VENUES then for women to go to complain---so you can't compare what happened THEN with how things should should happen NOW. THEN and NOW should NOT be placed under the same header because the times are different. Similarly, consenting adults don't belong grouped under the same #MeToo as some deranged guy breaking a window and forcing himself on a sleeping victim. We are constantly trying to equate things that can't/shouldn't be equated. I'm not condoning predatory behavior. But my point is ALL #MeToos are not alike. The context and the variables make them different. They shouldn't be treated alike.

This guy got screwed, literally and figuratively. At no time during the encounter was there a "No." He simply had the misfortune of running into a brain-addled flake. FYI, there are many of them out there and one night is not enough time to tell them from "normal" women. Before you know it, there is a dead rabbit boiling on your stove. If he is that good of a journalist he should write books under an alias.

This is sad article. Lives are ruined when you throw out presumption of innocence. A family friend experienced some trouble because of #MeToo. He a fine young man who is personable, a college student (putting himself through), a Marine in the reserves, part-time PE coach with the local high school and who regularly attends church. Really he’s one of the good guys. At another part-time job (remember - he is paying for his own education) he was reported for “creating a hostile work environment”. His crime? Asking a female co-worker how her weekend went. Literally, that is all. Even the woman who reported him agreed that is all that was said. Her response was that his “asking” put pressure on her. Jeez Louise!!

JK if you don't want to get fleas, don't lie down with dogs. Or if you don't want to be the subject of sexual accusations, don't mess around with progressive females. You made the bed that you slept (may not be exactly accurate) in. Did you get a "signed" memorandum of agreement before and after your experiences? You should have. You had plenty of warning. Next time follow the Mike Pense approach to women.

I truly think that we have moved to a culture where it is dangerous for a man to date. Forget sex (not literally, I mean) but even casual or physically upright man-woman encounters are hazardous - to the man.

So Jonathan, now your life is over. Grow up, get out of mom's basement, go down to the local watering hole and hear the stories of ex-husbands totally screwed over by their ex-wives in a court of law. It's only when you don't get up off the mat that you lose.
