Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller of San Antonio, one of the highest ranking Mexican American Catholic leaders in the country, was left in shock on Saturday when he heard about the mass shooting in El Paso that killed at least 22 people in his state. Garcia-Siller said there was “no justifiable explanation for such scenes of horror.”
But what was clear to the archbishop, who recently supported migrants and asylum seekers crossing the southern border, was that President Trump’s “invasion” rhetoric against Hispanics, language echoed in a manifesto police believe was posted by the alleged El Paso gunman, helped create a climate that led to the tragedy.

I do not want unlimited numbesr of illegals coming into the country putting a strain on our already overburdened social services. I have no problem with legal immigration. Why is this so hard to understand?

To mo0st (75%) Americans, what is happening on our southern border is an invasion. To the 25% who support illegal aliens (there I've said it) and sanctuary cities the are poor people seeking asylum. 90% of those applying for asylum status are denied by the courts.
This Archbishop has been helping the illegal aliens hide in our country. Is anybody surprised that he considers POTUS the enemy and he slanders Trump by calling him names like Racist (without ANY proof).

Call me, when the good Archbishop starts to right every wrong committed by pedophile priests over the last few hundreds of years and when they come clean on exploiting the native populations of the Western Hemisphere. There is no high road for them to criticize anyone at this point.

The Catholic church is influenced by the money on the border. It cannot effectively preach the message of Christ for Catholics so selling out is how it survives. It is as corrupt as the DOJ, the Democrats and the media.

#1, this is the statement that needs to be made, repeatedly by Republicans, and then ask why Democrats are more interested in illegal immigration, or helping to exploit loopholes in the asylum laws?
The latter enables them to stay, and obtain a green card in only 3-5 years, much earlier than going through the normal, legal immigration application process.
Democrats also like to be know for helping someone gain something, and give the impression they wouldn't have obtained such benefit without THEIR help. Thus, they feel indebted to the Democrat and vote Democrat.

I've got a better idea. First you guys stop diddling the choir boys and then atone for those whose lives you have already ruined THEN MAYBE you would have a smidge of moral authority to speak on these matters. Having said that--this president is NOT racist. The previous one and his spouse ARE.

I’m sure everyone remembers the article last week or so about the Mexican churches encouraging people to head for the US, getting them in touch with safe coyotes and then flourishing from the money the illegals send back.
Just one more of the thousand cuts our country and us too, are going to die from.

Our president is giving voice to the frustrations of we American citizens who HAVE A RIGHT to a regulated and lawful immigration system, for which we have a legal framework - just lack of federal will to enforce. I would NOT want to see our president have to hold back speaking FOR US in order to not 'trigger' a freak with a gun. The Left seemingly would allow freaks with guns determine our policies.

There is plenty of blame to go around, and it is pointless to heap it all on the President when he had nothing to do with the shootings. First and foremost, the perps are responsible for their actions. They made a choice to take up arms and murder all those people. No doubt the Archbishop knows this, but would rather indulge in pointless politics.

I am a practicing Catholic and believe me this Archbishop is someone who needs to keep his thoughts to himself. Most of the Catholics I know detest these outspoken priests and we want legal immigration not what some of these religious people are pushing. Social Justice is pushed on us at every turn. It’s getting difficult to hear and see and many are turning their backs and leaving the church.

No priest has any say in how a soverign nation creates it laws, it is not their jurisdiction! Especially a Mexican priest who seems to be an advocate for illegal imigration. You concentrate on saving our souls Padre, while Trump will save our country.
Jesus said "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's".

Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller will most certainly not see an increase in contributions to the DSF (Diocesan Services Fund). I quit giving long ago when I realized how the Diocese was using the money. The people the Archbishop is pandering to are not the people who contribute. The people who contribute are not going to like what he is saying about our President. Poster #11 has it right. The Archbishop should go to Mexico and help the people if that is what he truly believes.

As long as the clergy swallow hook, line and sinker the leftist dogma, they will continue to see a drop in church attendance. I've listened to too many sermons where the minister seemed to take all the talking points from CNN or MSNBC.

OK, I'll admit to being a Roman Catholic for about 76 years. I contribute to my local church, because I like the messages my priest gives on Sunday. We have a. great priest, and he's respected. I no longer contribute to any of the local Bishops causes/ collections, and I don't contribute to any of the socialist Jesuit in Romes favorite charities. I realize that since it's inception, the Catholic Church has been Communist/ Socialist and I treat it accordingly. That doesn't mean I can't learn something from a devout Priest. And the pedophile priests should be locked up under the jail.

During the 1970s, with the recent founding of Raza Unida Party (RUP), also called La Raza, Time magazine (back when people actually read it) had an odd contribution to the Letters column. The writer said that in the 1830s and 1840s the Southwest had been stolen from the Catholic church, and that with immigration, the church would take it back. This letter caught my attention because I had never heard it considered that "the church" had lost the Southwest.
This archbishop, born in Mexico, is just trying to follow the La Raza path. La Raza means "the race." (BTW, the mother of the Castro brothers, Rosie Castro, was a founding member of La Raza, and in the 70s ran unsuccessfully for San Antonio city council on the La Raza ticket. When Julian, her son, became mayor of S.A. in 2009, he placed her campaign poster in his office. In 2014---surprise, surprise---he became Obama's HUD secretary.)

first of all...done with the remarks about priests . not all priests were pedophiles. In fact the one priest I knew was accused and proven innocent because a couple kids were mad at him...check out the boy scouts of America. Worse. I get the hiding the jerks who hid behind the collar, I get the whole scene.
Now as far as that bishop. He should just shut up. He also should remember that God put laws down on the earth to be obeyed. Same with countries. But this government gives lots of money to the bishops who support illegals coming into this country. In fact, the bishops ignore abortion because of the money. I wish this present administration would check this out and stop the money flow

Just a little housekeeping - the Washington Post must know that the "manifesto" that was supposedly "posted" by the shooter was NOT written by him since he has autism and does not possess the level of literacy needed to write such a document, and it was stated that it was NOT THE SHOOTER who posted the manifesto. Who wrote it and who posted it is something that, hopefully, the FBI will follow up on so we can get to the truth of the matter.
As to the Archbishop (and I am one of the flock who loves my faith), I do not think that Christ wanted him to become a priest, then bishop and now archbishop, so that he could spend any time getting involved in the subject of climate change or illegal immigration, or supporting anyone who is committing an illegal act. I am sure the Archbishop knows that Mary and Joseph were following the laws of the land when they went to Bethlehem for the census. Joseph, a hard-working carpenter, had money in his pocket to pay for space in an inn but, sadly, there was no rooms available, and Christ was born in a stable. (I am sure it devastated . Joseph not to be able to find room for them, as Joseph had protected and took good care of his expectant spouse on that long and perilous journey and he wanted to find a place to stay, but he just had to accept that Christ was meant to have a humble birth.)
If anyone saw the hordes of people coming toward the southern border fairly recently, i would think that the word "invasion" used to describe what was happening would be considered a mild word indeed. I am guessing that when all of the people were traveling for the census centuries ago, it amounted to hordes of people as well, though it would be just temporary until people registered for the census and then went back to their homes again.
It should be noted that the Catholic Church, and other churches as well, are getting MILLIONS OF DOLLARS from the government and other charitable organizations for helping to resettle illegal aliens after they come across the southern border. One wonders if some of these caring bishops would be as caring if there was not money involved. Forgive me, but it is, unfortunately, true that too many of the hierarchy who feign concern for the illegal immigrant would never get involved if there was no money being paid to them by the U.S. government and other charitable organizations who want open borders.
My Catholic Church is in such a crisis and it is about time some of these poseurs in the Catholic hierarchy stopped marching for climate change and illegal immigration and focused on the state of the faith in their own Church, i.e., attendance at mass is down, communions are down, sacrilegious communions are up, sacrament of penance is down (well, the church can only allot one half hour or forty five minutes on - for most people - busy Saturday afternoons for hearing confessions), marriages are down, the birth rate is down, baptisms are down, confirmations are down, vocations are down, churches and schools are closing all over the place in this country and churches and monasteries are closing all over the world as well.
"The gates of hell shall not prevail against it (the church)", and soon - either through God or man there will be a purge of all these fakers who are doing nothing to build up the Church of Christ. Then we will have the Springtime that Pope Saint John Paul II wrote about when all the wonderful and faithful priests with their true vocations to be "Another Christs" will be left and the Church will be again what Christ intended it to be when He gave Holy Mother Church to the world. And when the poseurs have been purged, we will have so many good men swarming to the priesthood because they know that they will be allowed to be the kind of priests that Christ meant them to be and they will stay and increase the priesthood because the good men will know that all the fakers will be gone.
