At 2:00pm EST Tropical Storm Barry is strengthening with current 65 MPH winds. Barry is still forecast to become a hurricane shortly before landfall. Slow movement, warm water and growing energy is a concern as Barry is anticipated to be a long duration flood event. Extreme rains and widespread flooding are anticipated for Louisiana and the Mississippi valley area. Pay close attention to local officials for your area. Barry is not a concerning wind event; however, the extreme rainfall and flooding are significant concerns. Apparently normal US weather radar does not show this area for some reason, even though it shows storms over the eastern end of the Gulf. I suppose just a lack of radar coverage in the western gulf.

IF New Orleans floods again & is devastated, please don't spend my hard-earned tax money to rebuild it. It's BELOW sealevel! It will only flood again. And Again. And AGAIN!!! Ship all the RAT voters there up north where they can be with fellow RATs (Houston is still full of the criminal, thank you, RAT Mayor Bill White) and close & lock the doors on NOLA as a failed experiment.

The Mississippi Delta may get the worst of it. The land is low, steaming hot, and infrastructure is not the best. I have heard that heavy rain makes the numerous snakes of the region seek higher ground - such as one's couch or bed.

Personally, and let me say I profoundly hope I'm correct, I think all that's going to happen is a lot of rain. This is NOT a hurricane. It didn't spawn from the African winds, it didn't "organize" over the Atlantic, it's just a simple storm. Given the previous Mississippi flooding, I hope it isn't too bad for the folks of southern Louisiana, but this ISN'T Katrina 2.

I live on the Mississippi coast, about 200 yards from the north shore of Bay Saint Louis. This, along with the towns of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland, were Ground Zero for Katrina in 2005. (I had 14-ft of water in my yard and we lost 200+ houses in my neighborhood in Katrina.) Today the center of the circulation was south-southwest of us, slowly moving west, farther away. We had a nice southeast breeze, alternating sunshine and showers, the local NOAA tide gauge (Waveland, MS) showed a maximum of 4.56 ft above reference sea level. We had some (VERY) low-lying roads and areas in Waveland flood to the depth of a foot or two in the late morning, then the water went back down later in the afternoon. No big deal here, in spite of the media hyping the storm all day. Nothing got destroyed. I think they were disappointed. There is more danger of flooding over in coastal Louisiana, west of New Orleans, as the main part of the storm is headed that way. As I understand it, the main danger for significant damage is in New Orleans, as the Mississippi river is very high right now from heavy rains earlier and MUCH farther north, and the concern is that heavy -really heavy- 'local' (that is, in Louisiana) rain might raise the river enough to over-top the levee in one or two places. Anyone in the Corps of Engineers or New Orleans reading this and with better information, please chip in! All in all, it was a nice day here in South Mississippi.

Naming this tropical storm or possible Cat 1 hurricane 'Barry' is spot on. Barry the Destroyer certainly destroyed huge swaths of our country. At least the current TS Barry will only affect a small portion.

New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is well known for her choreographed border performances and staged pictorial presentations. However, many within her target audience are no longer supportive of the indulgent self-serving narrative; and support is diminishing. In an effort to restore and reignite diminishing career fuel, Ms. AOC moved her particular form of dramatic political art to the world of cinematography. For her debut theatrical exhibit the young artist submits a well-rehearsed performance during a broadcast congressional mini-series titled: “My life amid the toilet drinkers.”

After briefly increasing to hurricane strength Barry is now back to a strong tropical storm as it moves inland through southern Louisiana. Barry is a very slow moving storm and the effects from rainfall are anticipated to produce extreme flood risks for Louisiana and Mississippi throughout the next three days. If you are in the impacted region stay alert to warnings and advice from local officials. If you find yourself in need of assistance, you can reach out to CTH via the email address on the sidebar; or use the comment section below which will be monitored. (Hurricane Center bulletin)
