Austin has long been the weird, liberal capital of Texas. The rest of Texas just sort of shrugs and puts up with it. Austin is quirky. Austin is odd. Austin lives in its own little world. Austin is also home to some of the best live music joints anywhere and you have to work pretty hard to find a bad restaurant in the city, so it’s not without its charms. The joke about Austin is that it’s nice because it's so close to Texas (its the capital, a deep blue dot surrounded by a vast red sea). Austin is like that oddball cousin we all have. He’s there.

"he city’s last idiotic, nonsensical ordinance (they pass a lot of ‘em, bless their hearts)."
Leftist cities start out cool. Then, they end up like San Fran, New York, Portland, Seattle; destroyed. All because of cool fools.

You can't make this stuff up. So let me get this straight - Austin's City Council willingly legalized squatting. What part of stupid is this. Austin has just turned itself into a tent city. The illegals, drug junkies, the msm, and the left will be all over this. Liberalism never ceases to amaze me.
Texas might be better off by building a moat around this liberal enclave.

True story.
Only city in America that I’ve ever visited where a Planned Parenthood activist slammed a flier at me and my family as we entered a restaurant. Very ‘in your face’ - we were not amused.

This will certainly bite them in the butt. What could possibly go wrong?

There is a famous decades-old anti-littering ad campaign called "Don't Mess With Texas" which has featured a jingle of many musical celebrities singing a variation of "Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" that started with Willie Nelson.
Then came a more recent variation on a theme called "Don't California My Texas!".
Now comes "Don't San Francisco My Austin"
In the Depression during the Dust Bowl days, many from Texas and Oklahoma moved out to California seeking jobs during the Great Depression which was told in Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath".
Now, in a reversal of mega proportions we are seeing people fleeing California coming to Texas in search of jobs, affordable housing, and repudiating the kind of high tax, socialistic lifestyle foisted upon them by the demonrat socialists--
Austin and Houston are the weakest points of infiltration, but San Antonio is now in play as well with the influx of throwaway motorized scooters creating problems for pedestrians and motorists.

Austin's homeless are very aggressive. One guy got in my face after I told him to leave me alone, called me all kinds of vile names. I stopped and then burst out laughing. He did too, and went away happy. Most of them are just strung out or nuts. But they have the homeless shelter right in the middle of the tourist area.

I have no use for Austin and neither did Sam Houston. He hated the fact that is was the state capital. We need to hold an election to designate a new state capital but they would turn the new one weird eventually, too.

"Unless they’re called back for a special session that literally no one in the whole state wants, Austin’s policy won't be overridden by the state via legislation until 2021 at the earliest. Unless there’s a court challenge, one supposes, but standing and process will take a while. This thing could wind up in Justice Ginsberg’s successor’s lap before its done."
I enjoyed Mr Preston's writing. There were some well turned phrases. The last sentence of the above caused a double take followed by a big smile. Well done sir.

I was born in Austin. Back in those long ago days, it was just a nice, small, college town. Nothing weird or particularly exciting about it. But the doctors and the hospitals were the closest to our remote ranching area.
Now, everything about Austin has changed. It's big, trendy and weird. Plus, it's full of "homeless" indigents camping on the streets.

Ever since Austin started paying the city council a salary, thing have gone to hell here. Austin is a nice town once you get out of downtown. i say build a wall around that area and never let them out to infect the decent people.

"Keep Austin Weird" means "Keep Austin Leftist". That is all it has ever meant. Austin is not "IN" Texas; it is "ON" Texas; like a festering boil on your butt. The freaks in Austin elected this city council. They can live with the results. Real Texans avoid Austin (Scat Franfreakshow on the Colorado).
