Toll House is taking the "cook" out of cookie.
Raw cookie dough has always been a popular snack food, but it hasn’t always been safe. Health officials warn that it can cause sickness and infections, such as salmonella. While that hasn’t stopped a lot of people from risking it over the years, several companies have introduced safe-to-eat raw cookie dough over the last few years.(tweet)Nestle Toll House just entered the uncooked-cookie market with their own brand of raw cookie dough. In a complex series of events, Toll House’s Twitter account tweeted a link to an article from Cosmopolitan, which referenced an Instagram post from a food blog

Hmm. I have made their cookies, but I really have better recipes for chocolate chip cookies. As to the
raw dough, sure, I'll clean of the beaters, but not going to eat a bunch of it raw except as a little sideshow like beaters or licking the spatula.
But, to each, his own. Fine with me, but I won't be buying any.

It was blamed on the raw egg in the dough. We never “ate it as snack food”, but we did clean bowls and beaters for decades and never ever suffered any kind of GI distress. The dough made from the original recipe is quite delicious - butter, sugars, vanilla, chips and nuts. Nothing threatening there. It would have had to be the raw egg. All they’d have to do would be to pasteurize the eggs…
They also mention flour and salmonella. I’d love to see real life undeniable proof of that...

I’ve eaten raw cookie dough both store bought and home made with no issues. I like livin on the edge like that.
Aaaand, if salmonella is an issue it comes from the shell, not the egg.

How in the world I ever made it to 76, after licking the bowls and beaters from cake batter, cookie dough and frosting bowls is a miracle or an act of God!

Same here. Nothing really appealing about raw cookie dough. But uncooked hamburger, now that's a whole other pleasure - any chance I get.

I am lucky if half the dough is left when I bake chocolate chip cookies. I keep sneaking bites. Can't help it.

#6, sorry, but EWWW! I have never once eaten raw meat on purpose. I am an absolute "I want it
fully cooked" person for meat. ALL my meat is at minimum medium well. I cannot grasp the whole
concept of steak tartare. I think the taste AND texture of raw meat is nasty, and fully cooked, it is
wonderful.
But, enjoy. I don't try to tell people how to prepare THEIR food. And, I make mine MY way.

#6 - yes !! A local grocery store makes a spread on special occasions. Raw beef, onion, tabasco sauce and other seasonings that I haven't been able to figure out. They call it Raw Dawg. Love the stuff !!

Raw cookie dough is not a snack food at our house. And our beef is cooked well done, When we specify Well Done to the waiter, we add, “And we are serious about that.”

My mom always told us kids that cookie dough and cake batter would give us worms if we ate it. :)

I'm almost 60, and to this day I marvel at how my mom (a renowned baker and cook) and mother of 5 managed to make the best cakes pies and cookies with all of us kids pulling up chairs along side her and sneaking "tastes" of the batter while she mixed and stirred. Forever patient and loving, her skills overcame our need to be near and "help". Mom was THE best.

RE #14:
I always tell the waiter to tell them to "leave it on the grill til the smoke alarm goes off." That lets them know how I really want it. And I'm not worried about offending anyone if it isn't cooked to my satisfaction. I'll send it back in half a heartbeat to get it cooked right.

What can I say. Beto eats dirt.
As kids we licked the bowl. But, those eggs were from chickens we raised, not some cesspool poultry plant with foreign workers. In today's world, even flour gets recalled.
