The Escalator Ride That Changed America

Original Article

Four years ago, Donald Trump stepped onto an escalator in the atrium of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York and began descending into a lobby packed with cameras. It’s safe to say the 10 or so seconds that followed are the most consequential escalator ride in American history. The cranked-up soundtrack was Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” The cued-up crowd was made up of loyal staff, bemused reporters, people given 50 bucks to wave signs and make noise, and tourists and bystanders dressed up in early MAGA merchandise they’d just been handed. And they watched Trump, the director and leading man

After hearing Mr. Trump that glorious day, FAITH was restored that our Creator was not done with us yet. Every evening, a prayer went up giving thanks and asking that DJT would continue down the path chosen, praying that he would not pull out but continue with the proper paperwork to enter the race. Once he had signed on the dotted line, prayers continued that David would indeed defeat Goliath. An ALMIGHTY Hand shaped this particular election. Those who continue to sleep, will they awaken in time to witness the coming Revival and realize exactly what is happening?

Chris Matthews: Trump ready to win voters

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is worried that Democrats and their Hollywood “buddies” have not learned important lessons from the 2016 presidential election. The “Hardball” host told network colleagues on “Morning Joe” that President Trump is primed to once again win votes in Pennsylvania and key states due to the hubris of the “liberal elite.” “[Voters in 2016] knew there was a great party going on among the liberal elite with all their Hollywood buddies, and they weren’t invited,” Mr. Matthews said Monday. “Nobody wants to go to a party if they haven’t been invited. … A friend of mine once said — he said this about relationships with men and women —

Is NBC News secretly in the employ of the Trump 2020 campaign? You really have to wonder by the series NBC News is running right now asking each of the Democratic presidential candidate to name their “one big idea” for America that will cause a groundswell and propel them to the White House next year. These are some of the “big ideas” they are offering: Cory Booker: Baby bonds. What? John Hickenlooper: Skills training. Whoa! Save up for that! Kamala Harris: Raises for teachers. What—she thinks teachers aren’t already going to vote for a Democrat? Julian Castro: Universal pre-K. I guess he caught up with the research showing Head Start

1. Certain Strong Political Pejoratives Are Thrown Around Viciously, Irresponsibly, and With No Relation to Their Meaning. Responsible people recoil when politically pejorative terms are hurled around. The Left, for example, now calls opponents “Racist!” without any basis. The Southern Poverty Law Center, once an address for identifying true prejudice, now has lost all claim to seriousness by defaming even morally decent, mainstream legal-defense groups like Alliance Defending Freedom as bigots — even as their own conduct has been rife with sexual abuse creating a hostile work environment. On campuses across the country, some professors who cannot be fired, because their academic tenure protects them

Democrats are quietly airing concerns that battles with President Trump, including investigations of the president and his administration along with the noisy debate over impeachment, are overshadowing the party’s agenda, threatening its grip on the House in 2020. That narrative has been fueled by Trump, who has used his Twitter feed and interviews to lambaste Democrats as the “Do Nothing Party,” when in fact they have spent the first five months of their House majority ticking through agenda items they highlighted in the midterm campaign, addressing matters including health-care prices, political corruption and background checks for gun buyers. But voters aren’t paying much attention, party leaders are finding,

President Donald Trump is officially withholding hundreds of millions in U.S. aid to three Central American countries as punishment for being much of the source of the current illegal immigration crisis. The White House informed Congress Monday that it will permanently divert $370 million in aid to El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, according to Reuters. That money was previously approved by Congress for fiscal year 2018, but had not yet been used. Trump is not stopping there. The administration is also suspending $180 million that was approved in fiscal year 2017 that had not yet been spent. Lyrics website Genius has accused Google of stealing lyrics from its site and reposting them in search results without permission, with Genius claiming they caught the search engine “red handed” thanks to Morse code embedded in their lyrics. The Wall Street Journal reports that Genius’ web traffic has dropped in recent years as Google has posted lyrics on its search results page in “information boxes” instead of routing users to lyric sites like Genius; in March, 62 percent of mobile searches on Google did not result in a click-through to another site. While Google posting song lyrics themselves is not a crime, Genius claims that Google

As their minivan rolled north, they felt their nerves kick in — but they kept on driving. At the wheel: Lija Greenseid, a rule-abiding Minnesota mom steering her Mazda5 on a cross-border drug run. Her daughter, who is 13, has Type 1 diabetes and needs insulin. In the United States, it can cost hundreds of dollars per vial. In Canada, you can buy it without a prescription for a tenth of that price. So, Greenseid led a small caravan last month to the town of Fort Frances, Ontario, where she and five other Americans paid about $1,200 for drugs that would have cost them $12,000 in the United States.

President Donald Trump is sitting on a war chest topping $40 million, has boots on the ground spread across nine regions crucial to his 2020 map and owns a sprawling network of volunteers who’ve been rigorously trained for the months ahead. When he takes the stage Tuesday in Orlando, Fla., to announce his bid for reelection, Trump will be joined by 20,000 guests whose personal information — names, zip codes, phone numbers — was meticulously recorded when they requested tickets to the rally. First-time attendees will receive relentless emails and texts in the coming weeks, reminding them they can help “Keep America Great” by contributing $5, $10 or $15.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – More than 2,700 cases overseen by a former common pleas judge could be reexamined after allegations that the judge came to work drunk and was possibly involved in a local sex trafficking ring in Portsmouth. The Ohio Public Defender's office is launching an effort to review any case overseen by retired Scioto County Common Pleas Court Judge William T. Marshall that involved prison time or other court supervision. That's 2,707 cases in the 15 years Marshall served, said Ohio Public Defender Tim Young. He said there are at least 1,200 cases since 2013, when Marshall was first hospitalized for alcoholism, according to court documents.

If you read the newspapers, tuned into the cable TV pundits or received an email from one of the Democrats running for president, you’d swear Donald Trump was back to his treasonous ways. All that was missing was an annoying OMG text exclamation punctuating the unfounded claims that Trump might violate the law in 2020 by accepting intelligence on a political rival from a foreign country. The inference, of course, is that it would come from a hostile power such as Russia or North Korea or Iran. Actually, what Trump told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos was that he’d consider taking intelligence dirt about a rival from a friendly ally.

Dads are sometimes labeled lazy, but they don't deserve to be, a new research brief from the Institute for Family Studies argues. In the past several years, both entertainment media and the think-piece-industrial complex have tended to paint a not-so-friendly pictures of dads. Moms are said to be suffering under "second-shift motherhood," while the "working dad" commands less and less respect, thanks to the perception that he does not pull his weight. But is every dad really a shiftless Homer Simpson? Not quite, according to new work by IFS research fellow Robert VerBruggen. In honor of Father's Day, he looked at data from the American Time Use Survey (ATUS),
