An 11-year-old boy in North Carolina struck an intruder in the back of the head with a machete to foil a home invasion on Friday, according to reports.
The boy, who was home alone, answered a knock on the front door and saw a woman standing there. Simultaneously, a man broke into the home through a window and used the homeowner's pellet gun to force the child into a bedroom closet.
The boy escaped the closet and grabbed a machete, using it to strike the man in the head.

A person’s ethnic heritage can often be deciphered by their name. The surname “Hill” would probably be English but the perp’s first and middle names, Jataveon Dashawn, have me stumped. Jataveon is perhaps Roman in origin like “Octavian” but Dashawn? Hmmmm. Irish? Yes! That’s it! Perhaps an anachronistic version of Stupid Sean or Duh Shawn. If only we could see a picture of him! I’m quite certain that Mr. Hill would be blue-eyed with a Roman-nose and red hair and a splash of freckles across his nose giving his vacant expression a rather boyish look.

Which laughter will be the loudest at NC State Prison? Jataveon Dashawn Hall getting bonked in the head by an 11 year old boy with a machete, or
checking himself in a hospital afterward?

It's too bad such a young child should have to be faced with such an ordeal. He was home alone? That's pretty bad.

A permanent scar and a permanent reminder to wear a Helmet next time he's breaking into a house.

Sorry, but who has a machete just lying around? Glad he got away and all, but just saying.

Gee whiz, I wonder what kind of a name is "Jataveon Dashawn Hall"?
LOL! Good on you, kid. When you get old enough, get a gun, stop the next one
permanently.

#9, I have a machete in my garage, but I also have a KaBar in the closet,
and a .45 Colt, too. Keep your tools handy.

There are different kinds of home invasions.
In this case, it appears to be a modified home burglary operation.
In the other kind of home invasion, the home is that of a drug dealer, often with tons of cash - 100 thousand dollars or more - waiting to be stolen by other drug dealers or friends.
Banking laws are such that a holder of that amount of cash can't put it in the bank without alerting police and feds.
So what is a form of laundering? Surprisingly, it is to take a large sum of money to the casino, lose half of it, but the winnings on the way to losing, are laundered! So 100,000 dollars dirty money becomes 50,000 dollars laundered, legal money which then can be deposited in the bank. Just as long as the gambler doesn't use that card the Casino uses to keep track of the clients.
This accounts for part of the profit at those casinos! And we are talking big money!
(slightly off topic, but interesting, hey?)

And the moral of this story is: Don't bring a pellet gun to a sword fight.

#15, Cold Steel makes a fairly decent array of machetes, bolos and corn knives.
Here is one. A corn knife is a n impressive piece of equipment, too.
