College With $887M Endowment Claims
That $33M Settlement For Misconduct

Well, this is certainly brazen. As I reported yesterday, Oberlin College got hit with punitive damages of $33M for coordinated attacks by their employees and students on a local bakery. The back story boils down to the fact that this bakery tried to stop three people from shop-lifting some wine. This led to sustained attacks, spurned on by #blacklivesmatters, based on false accusations of racism that caused serious harm to the business. (Snip) endowed funds as of June 30, 2018 were $887.4 million, as compared to $820.3 million the previous year, an increase of $67.1 million.

Comments:

After they cried poverty in court, Oberlin issued a letter to alumni assuring thst the award would not now or in the future affect Oberlin’s educational mission or its students. I am confident that jurors now and in the future will be pleased....and nore than willing to stick the award as high as legally allowed, knowing that such an award id without consequence.

It's time society began to examine the amounts of money that Universities have in the endowment funds and begin to ask "What's all this money for?" I, for one, would like to some of it go to pay some of the dead-beat student loans that taxpayers seem to be expected to cover. Once colleges realize that they will be on the hook when students don't keep their end of the deal they will be more careful in determining 1.) who they admit into their institutions of leaning (meh!) 2.) The degrees that they offer. I think we would see a quick end to all of the useless "*** Studies" programs.

In true liberal fashion, Oberlin's comments are all about potential damage to them and do not mention the damage they did they did to Gibson's Bakery through their own actions!! Social justice was done in this instance by holding Oberlin accountable for what they did. Justice worked!!

Why does the Left have such little regard for Truth? I remember Mother Angelica saying on her Eternal Word Network program that some people do not believe in objective truth; they just believe in Ideas, and ideas change. That's the Left. No such thing as objective truth - like an endowment of $887M.

Let's hope more juries respond in the same way, better yet, may the colleges themselves get control of their students, stay with the facts and not get out in front trying to destroy a business. Despicable!

Obvious whiney BS. Nobody is going to buy it......and even if it was true, THAT IS THE POINT of the judgement, to punish the college, and the students.

The incestuous relationship that Oberlin has (and likely many other colleges) with students is this: Oberlin pays scholarships totaling $60 million a year to 90% of their students. In other words only 10% (or about 300) of the student body pays full tuition & fees (board etc) which is about $68,000 per year!!! The other students are being paid to go to Oberlin. Now I'm sure there are many who are worthy - maybe the Music Conservatory students. I would guess that a goodly portion are the compassion & quota students, kids who have no business being in college but are objects of the social constructionists that infest the Academy. Blah! A college degree becomes less & less valuable.

Chekhov says somewhere—I think it must be in one of his letters to young ladies with literary ambitions—that a writer can, or at least should be able to, write a story about an ashtray. Actually, this might be less difficult than might at first appear. If you imagine an ashtray to have eyes, ears, and consciousness, it would probably have witnessed a great deal in its lifetime, especially drunken quarrels. I have known ashtrays used as instruments of murder or attempted murder. In the days when almost everyone smoked, ashtrays would also have witnessed many a historical event.

Import prices advanced 1.8 percent from December to April before the downturn in May. The price index for overall imports decreased 1.5 percent over the past 12 months, matching the drop in January.
