VISTA, Calif. – A judge declared a mistrial Tuesday on the remaining charges in Kellen Winslow II's rape trial, a day after a jury returned three convictions that could send the former NFL star to prison for up to nine years. San Diego County Superior Court Judge Blaine Bowman said the jurors were “hopelessly deadlocked” as he announced the mistrial. By varying counts, the jury favored conviction on the eight remaining charges but could not agree unanimously as required by California law. So stuff him for 9 years and work on the re-trials for the other eight charges. NFL? What's that? I thought they were all on their knees too.

Robert Spalding formerly "the chief China strategist for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs" described what he thought was at stake in the US-China "trade war" in which the role of Beijing's telecom giant Huawei figures prominently. In an interview with American Thought Leaders Spalding argued that it was bigger than a trade war. "It's really about what kind of world we want to live in." China, like the US, realized that globalization was not content free and was trying to shape it to its own purposes. The following are paraphrases from his interview found here. 'We were so

Gun-control advocates say they’ve collected more than 103,000 signatures, enough to trigger the next critical step before a proposed ban on the sale of assault weapons could go before Florida voters in 2020. Leaders of the political committee Ban Assault Weapons Now gathered in Orlando on Monday to announce that its draft constitutional amendment met the signature threshold to go before the state Supreme Court for review. The event came just days before the third anniversary of the shooting at Pulse night club where 49 people died in a hail of gunfire from a shooter armed with an assault-style rifle.

Joe Biden leads in the major polls because people think he's going to win, and people think he's going to win because he's leading in the major polls -- but all it takes to puncture his Cloak of Inevitability is a shift in perceptions. That shift looks like it's taking place right now. If anything could change the perceptions of Democratic primary voters, it would be weakness on the party's sole sacrosanct issue: Abortion. Pro-life candidates and elected officials have all but been hounded from the party. The slow process began more than 30 years ago when Missouri Congressman Dick Gephardt, a pro-life politician

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., an advocate for a $15 minimum wage, returned to work as a bartender for one day. Ocasio-Cortez said: "All labor has dignity, and the way that we give labor dignity is by paying people the respect and the value that they are worth at minimum. We have to make one fair wage, and we have to raise the national minimum wage to $15 an hour, nothing less." The issue is simple: Does a government-mandated minimum wage help or hurt the very workers and job seekers that Ocasio-Cortez wants to help? Ask her former boss, who owned The Coffee Shop diner

It all started when Franklin Graham, CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse, issued a plea to the nation to pray for President Trump. Graham made an announcement on his Facebook page at the end of May, asking Christians to set aside June 2 "as a special day of prayer for the president." "We know that God hears and answers prayer." he wrote. "He can soften hearts and change minds. He is all-powerful, and He rules over the affairs of nations. The Bible instructs us to pray for those in authority, “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

Besides his obvious affinity for plagiarism, it should be no surprise that Joe Biden stole his ideas for dealing with climate change. He couldn't possibly have any of his own. He doesn't have anywhere near the background or, to be honest, the intelligence to comprehend the necessary physics and chemistry. He could barely make it through law school (without plagiarizing). And, all apologies to attorneys, a Ph.D. in physics or chemistry is somewhat more of a heavy lift than an LLD. Undoubtedly it was the former vice president's staff that placed the stolen material in the unwitting candidate's hands. (One can only wonder

Los Angeles is quickly becoming a typical Third-World megalopolis, and the rest of the state isn't far behind. Local columnist Steve Lopez called his city a "giant trash receptacle" and asked, "Did someone turn back the calendar a few hundred years?” No, Steve, the city

NEW PORT RICHEY — Eric Scharber and his 13-year-old son Wesley decided to spend Memorial Day fishing, but it wasn’t long before all the other boats and swimmers out there on the gulf made them think twice. Still, they were already on the water in their 25-foot bay boat so they stuck with it. They were rewarded with a sight they won’t soon forget. About noon, about 150 yards off Anclote Key, they were motoring through shallow water and spotted something strange. Wesley grabbed his dad’s phone as Eric steered toward it. Not too far away, a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office boat was headed in the same direction.

Get ready for more attacks on people of faith if Joe Biden is elected president. Biden announced at an event in Ohio on Saturday that his number one priority, if elected, will be to enshrine LGBTQ rights into federal law via the Equality Act, a contentious, Orwellian effort by left-wing bullies to silence Christians who believe biblical teachings on marriage and reject the view that boys can be girls and girls can be boys. During a half-hour speech at the Human Rights Campaign's annual gala in Columbus, Ohio, Biden said, "It's wrong and it is immoral what [the Trump administration] is doing," citing

For one thing any new research on King could potentially become radioactive in the era of #MeToo. (Snip) If Washington and Jefferson can become villains overnight why not King? Western academic culture is besieged by the modern version of the Donatist heresy, a 4th century belief that "Christian clergy must be faultless for their ministry to be effective and their prayers and sacraments to be valid." PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg knows firsthand the burden of six-figure student loan debt. He and his husband, Chasten, are far from alone, though, and their personal college indebtedness is helping to keep the issue on the national stage. With loans totaling more than $130,000, they are among the 43 million people in the United States who owe federal student loan debt. The debtors are so numerous and the total debt so high — more than $1.447 trillion, according to federal statistics — that several of the Democratic candidates have made major policy proposals to address the crisis. Freshmen Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants Congress to give itself a $4,500 pay raise next year. That would boost her salary to $178,500. And that’s not counting the many perks members of Congress get, all courtesy of taxpayers. But even that isn’t enough for the self-described socialist. AOC scoffed that a 2.5% bump in pay was “not even like a raise.” Before that, she grumbled that her income was merely a “living wage.” She also complained in a tweet that if lawmakers don’t get a raise, it “makes campaign finance reform *harder.* ” And it “increases pressure on them to keep dark money loopholes open.” It makes one wonder if AOC understands

California wants to look after its people, so it keeps expanding its social safety net. It also wants to welcome all comers and so embraces illegal immigrants and protects them in sanctuary cities. To see how this is working out, visit Skid Row in L.A. or neighborhoods in San Francisco or elsewhere where homeless camps are spreading. Caring for all Californians is made harder by the state importing as many non-Americans as possible. It's almost incredible, but also entirely characteristic, that California lawmakers have now decided to give healthcare free to nearly 100,000 illegal immigrants aged 19 to 25.
