A Texas mother is standing her ground on breast-feeding in public places days after she was removed from a city pool during an argument with staffers over her right to nurse her baby.
Misty Daugereaux, 32, said she had taken her 10-month-old son, 4-year-old son and 4-year-old nephew to swim Sunday at Nessler Park Family Aquatic Center in Texas City, Tex., outside Galveston. She said at one point, her infant became “fussy,” so while the older boys played, she adjusted her swimsuit

Oh come on. In this day and age with drag queen story time and gay flags flying from our embassies, the boob police are still clutching their pearls. It's a breast. God designed them to feed not always cooperative babies. Mine hated being covered up. Gah it was bloody hard breast feeding public!! And yes sometimes someone got f!ashed. Oh well. Lighten up Francis. Our grannies and great grannies breast fed in bus stations, tent revivals, and while picking crops. As Conservatives, we have bigger fish to fry.

Our grannies and great grannies weren't exhibitionists and wouldn't have put themselves in a position of being judged. Too many people today push the envelope of good taste and enjoy the attention when they go too far.

If women are allowed to breast feed in public,
is the public allowed to gather around and watch?
What are the rules me2?

I rarely breast fed in public but I always wore nursing garments, had blanket to drape myself with and found a place where I could be out of public view as much as possible. No one would ever have caught a glimpse of a breast when I was out and about. I suppose there was more of a sense of decorum back then. I am guessing no one would have said a word if that selfish woman had covered herself appropriately. It was all about her, not her child.

A mother can breastfeed without exposing her chest. She just must wear a top or blouse that can be eased up just enough for the baby to nurse. She places a light cover over the baby and her chest. Many times those around will not even know she is nursing. She can do this with complete modesty.
Breastfeeding is more comfortable for mother and baby if it can be done in a quiet place. But sometimes this is impossible. The baby is hungry and crying and literally in pain, but the mother for whatever reason must stay right where she is. She should be considerate of others, but they should be considerate also of her baby's needs. Some babies absolutely will not take a bottle at all, so using a bottle temporarily is sometimes not the solution.
I breastfed two babies during the 1970s and also was member of La Leche League, so I know what I am talking about. A mother can nourish her very hungry baby without making a scene or offending anyone. I saw a lady recently modestly nursing her baby in an airport lounge. Unless you were very close to her, you wouldn't have even noticed. I was sitting right across from her and told her when I left that I was happy to see that she was nursing her baby. It was just a quiet whisper, and she gave me a very sweet smile in return.

Think again. In yesteryear we didn't normalize unhealthy sexual proclivities like pornography and thus objectifying the breast from its natural God given purpose.

We conservatives want big families, more personal responsibility for our young ones and less abortions and sexual immorality but get squeamish when a young woman feeds her child in public with her own breasts. You can't have it both ways.
Having helped so many young conservative religious mothers with breasfeeding, this prudish attitude angers me.

I must disagree with #7. Each and every one is a beautiful and unique testament to a woman and her femininity. I would much prefer to see that than some silly nellie prancing around in a rainbow leotard.

This mom is looking for the publicity. I nursed 4 discretely and modestly. You turn your back, drape something lightweight over your shoulder and the child, and nurse. Onlookers saw only that I was holding my child. This business about flopping out a boob and then getting upset that someone calls you out for it is for the birds. It's a swimming pool, for heaven's sake! Just because she thinks it's okay to do it doesn't mean she has the right to expose my child to her nudity.

In spite of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family Practices recommendations for exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months and continued breastfeeding to one year and beyond if possible, we have only about 26% exclusively beastfeeding at 6 months and less than that at one year (no change in 20-30 years). Attitudes such as some expressed here are why many many mothers are not willing to follow the recommendations. Our culture is hostile and they don't have public support - and somebody might call the cops. Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and continuing beyond is estimated to save billions of $ in US healthcare costs and tens of thousands infant and maternal lives. Look it up. Or continue to cluck your tongue at the mom trying to do the best thing for her baby and our society. And, eat your next meal with a blanket on your face.

She didn't drape a towel over herself and her 10 months old nursing toddler? Hmmmm. Oh, well. I guess.
Be that as it may, what is the big deal? Why the Hell would the cops even respond to this?
"There is a woman nursing a baby at the swimmin' pool! OMG! Save us!"
You will not believe this- but when I was in 4th grade, I went to school at a one-room country school, way, way out in the hills of central Arkansas. we had the most beautiful, shady clear stream that ran right through the schoolyard and there was a large, natural rock, wide open pool that made the most perfect swimming hole you ever dreamed of. In the hot fall days, the teacher would call "Swimming Time" and us 12 to 14 students of all grades 1- 12 would run out of the un-air conditioned, no electricity, no flushing toilets school house and strip down to our skivvies, boys and girls alike, and go dive into the crystal clear wonderfully cool water. Some of the boys had no skivvies and so we younger ones went in butt nekked! The teen girls would either sit on the bank or strip down to panties and bra and go swimming. The teacher would sit on the bank and read and watch over us. We would swim and chase crawdads and go underwater and watch the fish- the water was so clear it looked like they were floating in the air. It was a marvelous time! Oh, yes, and the female teacher had a pistol, which on occasion she used for skunks, tarantulas, and other scary critters that would come around. No one thought anything of it at all! No one was molested, no parents came down screaming they were going to use the school, no child was harmed. And those times are some of my most treasured, happy memories.
This society, however, is simply losing it's G Dmned mind!

Have you noticed that in our politically correct society nursing mothers in public are entitled NO MATTER WHAT?

Why do we have public pools? I don’t want to pay for that. Close down public pools, problem solved.

Another millennial publicity whore. I'm sure she had a towel she could have draped over her child and breast, but decided to play peek a boo.

A breastfeeding mother need not expose her breast to do so. If she does, it's exhibitionism. Of course for those who do then call the media - guess they are bored and need excitement in their lives and want a bit of celebrity thrown at them.

Such silly, sanctimonious prudes! For pity’s sake, did these hyperventilating dimwits ever visit an art museum and find paintings of Mary feeding Baby Jesus right there in public? Horrors! For shame! Brazen hussy. Just another millennial making trouble. Mary should have fed her divine infant something fake, but more appropriate, or at least excused herself and her fussy child to a bathroom and fed Him while sitting on a public toilet, so as not to cause offense among the sexually stunted.
Woe be unto the mother whose baby hates having a blanket over his head. It’s 95 Texas degrees, for heavens sake, at a sunny swimming pool. But Victorian affectations persist, and sexual weirdness,.Doesnt anybody think it strange that a prurient person is unable to simply look away, or even confine him or herself to a rude stare? No, let’s make a federal case out of it, cause a stink, call attention to, gasp, a mama feeding a baby. Idiots!!! Nevermind that she is responsible for keeping an eye on other children. No, God and the Pediatricians goofed. Human mothers, alone among all mammals, are to be shamed for feeding their infants that which was provided. And that, my friends, is the very definition of perversion.

She used poor judgement and didn't consider the feelings of those around her. It is easy enough to be discrete and just throw a towel or blanket over your shoulder, when nursing. My guess is that she wanted the attention...a poor example for her children.

I am amazed, and in Texas of all places. We tolerate the Democrats absurdity and punish a woman for doing what is biological sound. Shame on you for doing this to this woman.

10 months old and the kid is still breast feeding? I predict the kid will grow up to be a pervert.

She forgot to tell the part about not covering up, refusing to cover up and what one employee described as the woman exposing both breasts. Sounds a lot like exhibitionism, sort of a slow motion flasher.
