President Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on all Mexican imports until Mexico takes serious action to control its border with the U.S. shocked the Washington Beltway, Wall Street, and the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City. These centers of financial and political power, lulled by a U.S. Congress that has refused to act and activist federal judges who have stymied Trump’s border control efforts at every step, were jolted awake by Trump’s ultimatum. But they should not have been surprised. The president issued a similar threat back in April. And, Trump promised from day one of his presidential campaign that he would make stanching the flow of illegal immigration,

Lou Dobbs was extremely upset with McConnell & the senate republicans for going against President Trump on the tariffs. I hope all the fake republicans are voted out. If we can’t survive with 5% tariff on Mexico something is very wrong. The media & McConnell are disgusting. These US companies moved to Mexico now they want breaks? I hope Trump ignores The fake senators . Trump has the authority to impose the tariffs without Mitch. They have the nerve to run again & ask for donations. Not one republican stood up for Trump on tariffs. They make me ill. Trump should tell congress if they did their job on the border he wouldn’t need to impose tariffs.

Use the money to build the wall, or tell Mexico that the only way the tariff stops is
for THEM to build a wall to our specifications.

And Lou said PDJT is fighting alone. But as OP rightly said, [millions] of us have his back. He is quite assuredly NOT alone.

A 5% tariff is going to break businesses and consumers in this country? Give me a break. What a bunch of pantywaists the Republicans in Congress are. They can stuff it and stick avocados where the sun doesn't shine. What's wrong with people? Aren't they educated enough to remember what the country did in getting behind it in WWII? Grow up people.

Republicans in Congress are a bunch of pantywaists. As usual. A 5% tariff is going to break businesses and consumers? Give me a break. McConnell and his wife must have China deals with Mexico to flood out country with more junk. A 5% tariff doesn't even come close to paying back what illegals are costing taxpayers in this country.

So many of Trump's critics are heavily invested in globalism and open borders, and don't care about how many jobs and businesses have moved overseas. Look at our debt. This country needs every job and every business it can get. Our government cannot sit idly by while this goes on. Trump's critics are betting against their own country. That is anti-American. We have always been told tariffs are bad, but it looks like they are necessary if we are ever going to rebuild our own economy.

All of the Previous Posters are correct. Trump was forced into taking this stand with Mexico. We all know that if Congress would have done their job we wouldn't be watching Thousands and Thousands of Illegals released into our country. I also put a large part of the blame on the Supreme Court. THEY could shoot down some of the Rogue Judges around the country who continually stop Trump from doing what he needs to do to stop Illegal Immigration. The Supreme Court sits there and does NOTHING. They also could have ruled on DACA a long time ago. Exactly what are they there for? They sit there quietly and choose which cases to hear. How about taking this Immigration case on a NEED TO DO NOW basis!

Mitch, unless you intend to pull your head out of your shell and lead with the President, pull your head back in and pound sand. Unlike you and your Senate caucus, the President, once again, has the moral high ground on a key issue.
We need the President to stand tall and follow through on his effort to stop illegal immigration.

Thank you Lou Dobbs for casting a bright light on those senators who are standing with the Chamber of Commerce and not with President Trump on the Mexico tariff issue. I'm disgusted with those spineless Republican senators. They don't have a clue about solidarity or supporting the President on the immigration issue. They are the reason why we have an issue at the border.
American people will remember who you are.

President Trump is a genius. We can afford the 5% because look at the money he saved the United States when he left the Paris Climate Accord remember that one? Do it Mr. President in a month or so we'll see how wrong all the doubters will be.

Now is the time to get a retired deplorable in your state to throw their hat in the senate race if your senator is of the spineless variety. Then support them all the way in the primary and general election. Otherwise you're stuck with the squish.

The greedy US business interests, and especially the establishment Republicans who are owned by the US Chamber of Commerce and other lobbying groups, along with the 100% political leftist and liberal Democrats, who undercut President Trump’s negotiating positions on tariffs and foreign trade with countries like China and Mexico are doing a great disservice to the USA, and American workers in the long-term.
The way politics have have been going with the Democrats since President Trump was elected, you would have to be a moron not to recognize that the Obama and crew organized “resistance” against President Trump has been informally advising foreign governments and interests “with a wink and a nod” not to cooperate with Trump has he tries to negotiate important international issues to the national interest of the USA, intimating that those foreign governments and interests should just wait Trump out until after he is defeated in the 2020 election, and that things will get back to normal once a leftist or liberal Democrat is elected President.

Congress could change the asylum laws in 15 minutes if they have enough pressure from Wall Street/CoC. Or they could vote 20 billion to finish the wall. If they legislate against tariffs and then override a Trump veto Republicans will lose the Senate in a bloodbath in 2020. There are 22 of us against only 12 of the others running. Trump is a master politician.

If the "billionaire businessman" does for this policy what he did for the Trump Shuttle or Trump Mortgage or Trump, the board game (twice) or (fill in your own choice of catastrophic failure here) we are in deep trouble.
The good news is that conservatives have found their voice in this case and are decrying the nonsensical populism of using tariffs to accomplish unrelated policy goals.

Just called Senator Lankford's office in Washington. As a constituent of the senator I asked a simple and straight question: Does Senator Lankford support Trumps 5% tariff? She would not give me a straight answer to a simple question and said that the senator "supports open and free trade". I suggested to her that Lankford get on board with the Trump agenda and hung up.

There are carrots and then there are sticks. Sometimes it takes the promise of the stick to get others to eat their carrots. Mexico would be wise to start eating theirs so they can avoid the stick.

Unfortunately certain establishment Republicans in the UniParty Congress, who are owned by the Chamber of Commerce and other business groups, are already undercutting President Trump’s effort to use tariffs to change Mexico’s attitude, in relation to Mexico obviously preforming the corrupt “three blind mice” routine as the international criminal smuggling cartels, for big payments, smuggle many hundreds of thousands of intending illegal aliens who are mostly all bogus asylum seekers from Central America up to the US borderline, where the vast majority make bogus asylum claims, and because of the incompetent Leftist and liberal Democrat created asylum laws that completely ignore mass fraud, are gaining entry to the USA in huge numbers, are failing to appear for their court hearings, and instead are absconding, and are hiding out in immigrant and low income communities to await a future Democrat created “Dreamer” type amnesty.
Those Republicans should be opposed in the next Republican state level primary processes.
