Ruth Bader Ginsburg, one of the four liberal justices on the Supreme Court, sided with her conservative colleagues on Monday over a prisoner's supervisory release. She joined Justices Clarence Thomas, John Roberts, Samuel Alito and Brett Kavanaugh in the majority, deciding that a criminal defendant, in this case Jason Mont, can be sentenced for violating his supervised release, even if the release expires while he is incarcerated ahead of facing new charges. Her vote was swapped with conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch, who joined liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan in their dissent. Mont had been indicted by

Funny how this is now viewed as aberrant behavior. The country is so polarized at this point in time that this is seen as a shocking headline. What is really shocking is the lock-step idiocy of the left that has created this mess.

Oh boy, have the wounds healed? According to multiple media reports former Attorney General Jeff Sessions is poised to run for his longtime Senate seat in Alabama. He would be challenging Senator Doug Jones who is considered the most vulnerable Democrat in the Senate. Mr. Sessions was generally disappointing during his tenure as AG; driven primarily by his recusal from all issues around the 2016 campaign, including the Mueller investigation. President Trump requested his resignation the day after the mid-terms, and President Trump stated giving Jeff Sessions the AG job was the biggest mistake of his presidency. On the upside, Sessions was a good Senator and dependably strong on immigration and

David Marcus, The Federalist’s New York correspondent, recently tweeted that he can’t make up his mind about whether he fears “the socialists or the libertarians more.” Robert Tracinski, an author and the editor of The Tracinski Letter, responded, “LOL. God forbid we should…leave you alone.” This was a good Twitter burn, but I suspect that for many people, that is precisely what they fear about libertarianism: that they will be left alone. They have a point, insofar as libertarianism has become less about a commitment to limited government and more a philosophy of autonomous individualism.

Support for President Trump's impeachment slipped 4 percentage points since mid-October, according to a poll released Wednesday. The Morning Consult survey found that 47 percent of respondents now back impeachment. In mid-October, a record-high majority — 51 percent — supported it. Those opposed to impeachment held steady at 43 percent, where it has stood since House Democrats launched an impeachment inquiry over the president's dealings with Ukraine in September. Responses on how House Democrats have managed the inquiry are also virtually unchanged in the new survey, with more than 4 in 5 Democrats backing their representatives in the House and a similar number of Republicans disagreeing with the House

While the results could be a good omen for Democrats’ chances in 2020, it may also be a tipping point in the money battle over gun rights.

Sea level rise is set to challenge human civilization for centuries to come, even if internationally agreed climate goals are met and planet-warming emissions are then immediately eliminated, researchers have found. The lag time between rising global temperatures and the knock-on impact of coastal inundation means that the world will be dealing with ever-rising sea levels into the 2300s, regardless of prompt action to address the climate crisis, according to the new study. Even if governments meet their commitments from the landmark 2015 Paris climate agreement, the first 15-year period of the deal will still result in enough emissions
