Scot Peterson, 56, was arrested Tuesday and charged with seven counts of neglect of a child, three counts of culpable negligence, and one count of perjury, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Rick Swearingen said Peterson did “absolutely nothing” to stop the shooting, which killed 17 and injured 17 others.

Please don't forget to also indite that wicked, politically corrupt Sheriff that allowed this festering excuse for a school system to exist by manipulating the statistical reporting of criminal activity by the students.

Yup, he's guilty! He wasn't paid to chat with a custodian.

I am amazed. This is the right thing for that worthless coward, but I didn't think
it would happen.
Wonderful news. I bet the jury will nail him to the wall.

Hope that means the corrupt Sheriff, believe it's Israel, or something close, also finds himself in similar trouble.
And, hope the FL GOP is using the rules installed by the Obama administration that would restrict the reporting of violent instances at schools in hopes of reducing the need to send some to jail. However, those rules ended up allowing the behavior to go unreported that would likely have prevented the Parkland shooting since it would have provided the red flags, to educate people about the politicians who condone such rules/regulations.

This is wrong. Plenty of combat veterans will tell you that they had moments or more of inaction because they were scared out of their wits. Read "Red Badge of Courage". This guy was a 'resource officer', I get that, but when faced with that situation you tell me you will run in when everyone else is running out. He didn't kill those kids. The shooter did. His punishment is his action or inaction. He has to live with this forever. Making this poor sop the fall guy for the actions of some sick evil person is not right. I hear plenty of warriors out there talking but are you sure you would have gone in?

#6, I don't consider myself a hero, but I spent part of my time in the USAF working crash-rescue. I was involved in some situations that I have not ever talked about, even to my own family. And I did not shirk my duty. Avoid those generalizations about others.
I have more respect for Scott Peterson the wife killer than I do for deputy sheriff Scot Peterson. His name should live in infamy.
Here is the legal problem, though.
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled, over the years, that a citizen has no right to expect to receive adequate police protection.
I could see Chief Judas John Roberts writing the decision to reverse a conviction of the Broward County Coward, relying on precedent.

As #7 points out, every state in the union has a statute on the books absolving law enforcement of legal liability if they don't keep someone from being damaged, up to and including being killed, except in some very narrow cases where they are already in custody. He'll walk unless he has an idiot for a lawyer.
That said, ask yourself why you and your fellow citizens allow politicians to deprive you of the most effective means of defending yourself when the courts have repeatedly said adults are responsible for their own and their family's protection, not the police? Hmmmm?

Peterson is 56 years old? He looks like 77 year-old Joe Biden’s
fat twin brother. Guys like him frequently wind up in an urn before
making it to 60. He probably wanted to get at in least five years of
retirement before ‘the big one’ so he hid out during the massacre.

Great but will he get to keep pulling in his retirement pay?

Innocent until proven guilty still applies even though the reported "facts?" look pretty bad. And, yes, even seasoned combat veterans may have weak moments. However, that never absolves anyone from doing his sworn duty when the chips are down. Being a sheriff's deputy is a voluntary position. Until fairly recent times that was not always the case for military service. The bottom line being: If you are not willing to run towards the sound of gunfire, do not volunteer for a job that may require it.

Lack of courage is not criminal, even for a cop. It's easy to sit at my computer and type about how courageous i believe i would be, but one never knows until the time comes. It's fun to virtue signal about how courageous we would be, but i am glad we don't lock up the cowards. Not enough prison space and I'm not sure i might not fail such a test (even though I pray I would not) and end up there myself.

Number 7 and 8 have the right of it. It seems settled in law that the police have no duty to protect us. Good book to read is "Dial 911 and Die." There is just not a duty for him to protect any individual. Think past this fact situation. If actions by the police were open for challenge as to did they do enough? Any time someone was injured the State could be brought to court. A lawyer can always find something to bring up as not meeting some standard and the courts would be swamped. I don't like how they acted, but Monday morning quarterbacking just won't work.

Having a name like Scot Peterson must be the mark of the devil. Remember the other one who butchered his pregnant wife?

I dont know that imprisonment is the answer as it sets a precident that will later be abused.
An official findind, fired....loss of benefits and a lifetime of shame seem adequate.

OK, I'm going against the grain but I can't help wondering if we would not be starting down the slippery slope. If a person can be prosecuted for inaction such as in this case, what might happen to anyone who ,for what ever reason, didn't get involved in any situation where someone needed help and help would be considered beneficial. He should have helped, YES, however I am thinking this is not the way to go.

He hid behind a pillar for 48 minutes while children were being slaughtered. Forty Eight Minutes!
Next up former Sheriff Scott Israel. Broward Cty has been corrupt to the core for decades.
