A lone Republican congressman single-handedly stalled a $19 billion disaster aid bill that lawmakers had expected to pass before the Memorial Day weekend.Texas Rep. Chip Roy took to the House floor late Friday morning to object when lawmakers tried to approve the legislation using a fast-track tactic, with many members of Congress already gone for the holiday.“If I do not object, Congress will have passed a bill with $19 billion without being here to vote on it,” Roy said. Railing against the "swamp," Roy objected to speeding the measure through a nearly-empty chamber,

The headline is designed to make one angry at the one so and so congressman. Actually reading the article makes one understand that this was a typical irresponsible deal as worked out by the do-nothing congress.
No responsibility. No seriousness. Basically a bunch of useless do-nothings.

Good for him. Two issues. First, there is absolutely zero Constitutional legality for ANY kind of
a taking of public fund for "disaster relief". We have gotten used to this unconstitutional stuff,
but find some place where it is legal. There is no Constitutional authority.
Second, they were slipping this past, with most members not present. That is wrong, too.
Ultimately, huge amounts of money going to PR is a bad idea. Free PR. Stop shipping our
money there, and stop shipping them here.
Bravo to the Texas Congressman!

Congressman Chip Roy is right. I am sure this bill is loaded with lard and favors to the corrupt Congress creeps on both sides. It is time to start figuring how to pay for all of this spending before spending our money. Besides the rule for any bill is that if the Democrats are in favor of it then it will hurt our country. If any legislation is good for the country than the communist democrats will fiercely oppose it.
Shame on these corrupt republicans who scurried out of town to start their holiday earlier without reading the bill, publishing it for all citizens to read, and making sure it was a responsible. Hope their Memorial Day Weekend is rained or snowed out.

Amazing that they can find 18 billion in a few days , but nothing for the wall in 2 years. Good for the congress man from Texas.

Have to wonder what all was in the bill. Its Congress. What sweetheart deals were added? Fast track enables Congress to plead ignorance. Afterall, we have to pass the bill before we can tell what's in it. They will have to iron out the bill when they are all back in town. Its not a disaster if the bill takes a few extra days to pass.

It was surely worth 19 billion to get out of town early, for the holiday weekend. Nice try, slimeballs.
Thank you Rep. Roy!

I see the Same Old Washington DC Swamp Misdirection and Coverup Tactic
The headline pretty much says "Aid to help poor ol' Puerto Rico rebuild after the Terrible Storm" (and if you don't vote for it you're a RAAAACIST!)
By the way, I have no problem with legitimate disaster aid. My home was hit by hurricane Katrina, and I thank every TAXPAYER for the help they provided in recovering from the devastation.
But I see the 'same old Washington DC Trick' being pulled once more.
According to this article, the headline AID FOR PUERTO RICO is $304 Million [$304,000,000] (plus ....cough, cough.... six hundred million [$600,000,000] in nutrition assistance).
Nutrition assistance? Food welfare of what type? Food stamps? Twice a much as the 'disaster aid'.
Anyway, the total is now $904,000,000.
Nine hundred four Million.
Less than ONE Billion.
But the Bill is for NINETEEN BILLION [$19,000,000,000] !
Notice the additional set of "000" (!)
Less than ONE part in SIXTY TWO (about 1/62.5) is going for the Headline Cause, PUERTO RICO STORM AID.
Only ONE part in TWENTY ONE (about 1/21.02) of the money is going to the 'headline destination", Puerto Rico.
WHERE and (more importantly, on WHAT!) is the REST of the EIGHTEEN BILLION, NINETY SIX MILLION dollars $18,096,000,000 going to be spent?
Only a VERY SMALL PART of the MONEY is going to the HEADLINE CAUSE.
By FAR the LARGEST PART of the MONEY is going "Who Knows Where"!
The PEOPLE PAYING FOR IT will NEVER KNOW!
And THAT, my friends, is the CLASSIC Washington DC Misdirection and Cover-up!
THANK YOU, Congressman Chip Roy!

Would I be wrong to suspect that this happened after Fancy Nancy was wingin it home and Ilhan Omar was being honored to be Speaker for a day?
Nice move Chip.

#9's dissection of this is exactly on.
$18,000,000,000 gone woops. And the sad thing is you have to really work hard to turn $18,000,000,000 a day into a $650,000,000,000 deficit. That is $650,000,000,000 MORE spent than collected in taxes. Year upon year upon freaking year. Somebody let me in on the cash flow.

Groom him to run for president when PDJT is through. He's the first elected one with any backbone (except for PDJT) I've seen in years.
