Insisting that a fiscally responsible state government can also aid those in need, Gov. Gavin Newsom sent California lawmakers a revised budget Thursday that builds on his efforts to address poverty and homelessness while forecasting the largest tax revenue windfall in state history. That windfall, Newsom said, will trigger the first-ever payment into a special cash reserve fund for schools and community colleges — a $389-million deposit stashed away specifically for education needs during a future recession. He also proposed an increase in spending on helping the homeless, raising the total state investment in the upcoming budget year to $1

Texas should increase its budget too and buy all the homeless one-way bus tickets to California.

That is really smart. Pretty soon, Cali can have ALL the homeless in the whole country.
I suggest that cities in other states start offering one way bus tickets and $50 cash bounty to all their homeless, to be collected in person in LA, with the used bus ticket. This would help all the rest of the country, and give Newsom what he apparently wants, MORE HOMELESS.
The remote cities will have to hire an agent to distribute the money, but that should still save them millions and millions, and the crime drop alone would be worth it.

Way to go Gavin. Dont deal with why people become homeless in the first place. Just shell out more money that will become a magnet for homeless people around the country.

A billion dollars won’t do a thing to reduce the poopy on the sidewalks. Only contractors and venders will benefit, including the local politicos with their hands out for the free cash.

Gotta love Gavin. He is taking every loony idea and making them loonier. It is like watching experimental rats and noting the results.

So do the people streaming across the borders have homes? Or do we need to build homes for them too? Where does this end?

Great plan, Gavin. Doubling the spending on homelessness will almost certainly quadruple the number of homeless. You always get more of what you incentivize.

Why just $1,000,000,000???
Why not $5,000,000,000?????
You have lots of rich people, especially in Holly-weird!!! Rich lie-berals like Barbara Streisand, Jane Fonda, Oprah Winfrey, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, etc, etc, etc, won´t mind having their taxes raised by $20,000,000 or $30,000,000 a year. They will be happy to pay that extra to help those less fortunate, since they all seem to love socialism these days!!!!! And none of them would dare be huge hypocrites by complaining!!!!

Basic rule of economics - tax something, you get less of it; subsidize something, you get more of it. So California will get more homelessness, and more middle class will leave.

Put them to work on that otherwise useless high speed rail project. After all, the weather is homeless-friendly in the Central Valley.

Newsom has homeless possessions protected. It is illegal for police to confiscate their tents and supermarket trolleys. In consequence the Los Angeles
City hall eorkers get Typhus through flea bites. The fleas come from rats that that get the bacterium from the feces of homeless people encampments that surround multibillion skyscrapers being built by the gullible South Koreans.
California is crazy. It votes for Marxists and higher taxes every election. Fortunately, Donaldus Maximus gave only $10,000 State and Local Tax deduction and this will curtail the amount by rich Californians can support the Democrat-Marxists. Good thing was, President Trump eliminated the Alternative Minimum Tax and the Death Tax, so many of US are wealthy again and counting the vast amounts of money in our 401ks. Have you looked at yours lately? Do it, and praise God for your deliverance by the one He sent US. We get a second turn if we can re-elect Trump2020.

“While Trump and Republicans in Washington make a mockery of our values and our government, we will provide a different kind of leadership,”
I believe it´s called smoke and mirrors. Gavin is naive enough to believe that $314 million stashed away in an education fund won´t be touched by other politicians. The article carefully doesn´t mention where his big tax windfall is coming from other than sales of marijuana, a great way to build your future. The medical care for all will be out of control within a year. I see an implosion coming soon.

From a pretty good movie (but now I think Kevin Costner is just a dumb pretty boy) "If you build it they will come."
Let Cal build all the infrastructure to house the illegals, and then let the red states reward Cal by sending all their homeless and illegals to Cal la la land.

Once you provide the homeless shelter and, no doubt, food, medical care, schools, clothing, etc., then what?
Job training? That requires a car or bus tokens to get there and back.
How do you force drug addicts to get clean and stay that way?

Two thoughts come to mind..
The State of Georgia was originally a "debtor´s prison" before becoming a colony in the union.
Taxifornia finds NEW WAYS to spend money they don´t have and people are moving OUT IN DROVES.
So WHY NOT send all those folks to Koleefornia and then cut them off from federal funds paid for by the other 49 states?
They are making their bed, so let THEM lie in it.
