There will be no Triple Crown winner this year. Controversial Kentucky Derby winner Country House will not be running in the May 18 Preakness Stakes after developing a cough, trainer Bill Mott told the Daily Racing Form on Tuesday. “He developed a little bit of a cough this morning,” Mott told the paper by telephone. “His appetite is good. He doesn’t have a fever. But he’s coughing. We drew blood. He’s acting like he’s going to get sick. He’s off the training list, and if he’s off the training list, he’s off the Preakness list. “It’s probably a little viral

Good for Bill Mott. Bob Baffert would have pumped the horse with painkillers and run it toward an early death. No matter, as long as he won the Crown.

Maximum Security would probably have beaten him by 3 lengths, Would have given him and his owner more than a cough. Not to mention that turkey steward at Churchill Downs and her wimpy cohorts. Debacle. D.E.B.A.C.L.E.

The Triple Crown events have been extremely popular on TV since the ´60s if not before. With Secretariat, interest went through the roof.
They have now screwed it all up. I will bet viewer interest, if not betting interest, will be down significantly for the Preakness and Belmont races. They´ve got some ´splainen to do to get us back.

Regarding the popularity of these events on TV, the Kentucky Derby has been especially so. The pre-race had recently been fun to watch as the entertaining and slighly dippy young ice skaters (Lipinski and Johnny ? don’t laugh) had kept it light and fun. This time some middle-aged broad in a bad dress and awful “fascinator” and bad hair, and a black man I have no knowledge of, tried to take over. Pathetic. The world’s longest most boring pre-race program. We will skip that in the future.
Those who put the broadcasts together will have killed them.

I kept wondering why 2 British commentators were doing all the interviews for the Kentucky Derby? NBC couldn’t find any Americans knowledgeable in horse racing & the history of the Derby?

“He’s acting like he’s going to get sick.”
Horses are physically incapable of vomiting. I hope that he doesn’t have colic - that could be fatal.

Two horses, both stabled at Churchill Downs, come down with the same illness. I gave to wonder how close their stalls were. And I wonder if any other horses there became ill.
As far as the remaining two races for the triple crown, the Preakness, if I recall correctly, is a short- less than one mile - race, which is not Country Houses´s strength, but the Belmont Stakes is 1 1/2 miles, which plays to Country House´s strength.
And for those of you who believe Country House is not a strong competitor, I suggest you go back to the tape, and watch him come out of nowhere as he was overtaking Maximum Security, then get back to us.

Good! The Triple Crown is down the tubes for this year. Best we can hope for is a nice sunny run for the Belmont. The Preakness was under the huge shadow of the Derby. All hat and no winner.

The only Triple Crown candidate was disqualified in a rigged race in Kentucky. Maximum Security would have taken it all this year, and the crooks know it. Have to wonder if the owners of this horse know it too, that is why they have found a way to pull their horse out of the Preakness.

Country House ended up being an opportunist. A spoiler. It wasn’t even close to winning. And there was no accident. Not even close. The horse behind Maximum Security did the crowding.
Country House’s cough is undoubtedly due to Performance Anxiety.

While it would be unofficial, Maximum Security can still win all three races, making him a Triple Crown winner in fact. Maybe he´ll have an asterisk after his name.
