Unhappy with the status quo, more than 200 of the world’s top female hockey players declared Thursday they will not compete in North America next season in a dramatic attempt to establish a single, economically viable professional league. The players announced their decision in a joint statement released to The Associated Press before being posted on social media in a move that has the potential of drawing the NHL further into the conversation of backing women’s hockey.

Do they compete in North America now?

Good grief, the NHL is struggling to keep the league from fading from everyone´s attention. I live in a city with a tradition of strong support for its NHL team and the team is struggling to get more exposure than the Major League Soccer team which plays here as well.

I have no interest in women’ hockey. When you realize how relatively few are interested in men’s pro hockey, this is no surprise.

Wow, this is about as insane as a person can get!!!
There is no (zero, zip, zilch) interest in women´s pro ice hockey!!!! Never has been, never will be!!!!!
Ice hockey is a violent sport. When our society devolves to the point that people actually want to see women being violent for fun and entertainment, it will be the end of western society!!!!

Like all liberal-supported organizations, it requires changes in rules and outside money to keep women’s professional sports afloat. I’m referring to women’s basketball, boxing ( never saw one round of that trash), and now hockey.

It´s too difficult to prove your value in the marketplace as a female hockey player so they demand to be equal to the male hockey players.
Can they try out for the men´s team if they are a transgender person?

Tranies would ruin it for women anyway. Women´s sports is now a thing of the past since men can compete while falsely claiming to be women.

The greatest female hockey player of all time, whoever that is, wouldn’t make the cut on a boys high school team.

May I be so bold as to suggest that they get some "transitional" players. Hockey is just soccer on frozen ground with fights.

200 top international female hockey players? I dare say 99.9999% of the hockey fandom can name even 1. Isn´t the main objective for a business to make money for the investors?

Women in hockey deserve the same pay as men.
Therefore they should be allowed to compete for spots in the NHL.
Just as long as the public is allowed to watch the event.
The checking should be fun.

#8, We have roller derby in Alaska. Wasilla has a fun team. While not wanting to see it every weekend, it´s a fun night every once in a while. This is a non-profit group who are in it for the fun,so doesn´t really equate with the women hockey players problems. http://denalidestroyers.org/about/

For all you journalism professors out there, please use this as a magnificent example of the abject failure to discern and present the news in an honest fashion.
The truth is blatantly obvious: professional women´s ice hockey is not an economically viable entity.
