Making monkeys more smart and human-like, scientists have used gene-editing to insert human brain gene in a monkey. For the first time, a team of Chinese scientists made use of gene-editing techniques to make monkey brains more human-like. By the end, the monkeys, rhesus macaques, got smarter and had superior memories as compared to the unaltered monkeys. Researchers edited the human version of a gene known as ‘MCPH1’ into the macaques. The gene made the monkeys’ brain develop along a more human-like timeline. The gene-hacked monkeys showed better reaction times and improved short-term memories in comparison to their unaltered peers,

And it will not be long before a race of deliberately retarded humans will be created to serve ´higher´ species as slaves. Only a society void of belief in God and absolutes of good and evil can permit such heinous activity in the name of science.

I guess the decades old effort and a bazillion dollars of grant money still couldn´t produce talking monkeys, so this is the alternative.

What could possibly go wrong? Just think about the ramifications if this succeeds as the scientists expect. It will lead to a very slippery road of mutations of all kinds. I am imagining the bar scene in Star Wars. Humans really should not be messing with what God has created.

The dumbing down of humans was a success so why not do it to monkeys? Democrats are the best examples. Give monkeys student loans and send them to the universities then the right to vote in elections.

Immediately after the procedure I´d round them up, lock them in a room full of typewriters and see if they come up with the Great American Novel.
Then I´d be worried if they do.
They can always work for CNN if they don´t.

I realize it will get me called a luddite, but the fact that one can do something is not a good enough reason to do it. The potential for disaster is so great as to preclude messing with nature this way. There is always the law of unexpected consequences especially when you are screwing around with the basic building blocks of nature. Whenever men assume the position of gods, they rarely end up with good results, in this case the possibility is particularly scary.

What they are after is figuring out how to make smarter humans.
Think about it. Ashkenazi Jews have ~15 IQ points over average. The result of that one standard deviation move results in .2 of the world´s population having 50% of the Nobel prizes, etc.
The Chinese are very much eugenicists. They want to create a master race of genius-level IQ people for Mother China.
And they can pull it off.

Who gets the responsibility of caring for the ´mistakes´ that come from this? "Flowers For Algernon" presented an idealized case, where the non-intelligent became super-intelligent, only to revert to non-intelligent. And that was tragic enough. What happens when more heinous side effects appear later in the lives of the guinea pigs? What if the researchers discover that after 10 years, the subjects disproportionately incur brain-related diseases like sudden psychoses and extreme personality disorders?
Even tippy-toes won´t avoid setting off landmines. (And these folks aren´t even tip-toeing...)
