The Democratic presidential candidates are parading in front of Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, and the topic of the day is reparations: Beto O’Rourke had just finished speaking about racial injustice to the National Action Network when the Rev. Al Sharpton, its president, pushed him to say a little more. “Your fellow Texan, Sheila Jackson Lee, has proposed a commission to study reparations,” Sharpton said. “If that passes, and you are president of the United States, would you sign that bill?” O’Rourke, who had spent 15 minutes talking about how white America left black America behind,

"Which leaves one wondering, whatever are the Democrats thinking?"
They are thinking that minorities are seeing that a good economy that gives them jobs is achievable, and HAS been accomplished. It didn´t happen under the wondrous BO, it happened under Trump and SOME minorities are recognizing it. If, say 25% of, the minority vote switches in recognition of that reality, the dems are in enormous trouble.
So what to do? The dems can´t can´t do anything real; Trump has already done it. Anything worthwhile and real would counter decades of preaching victimhood.
So, Go BIG! Big LIE, that is. Tempt the gullible with reparation promises that will never materialize, partly because they violate so many legal standards that they would be tossed out of court. But that doesn´t matter any more than true collusion really matters. The dems are all about pixie dust, fantasies, dreams, delusions, and hallucinations; anything that might buy a vote from the thralls they preach victimhood to.
Per wikipedia, "Minions are biologically wired to seek out and serve the most terrible of villains, when they have no "boss" to serve they become depressed and listless. Minions are characterized by their childlike behavior and unique language, which is almost intelligible at times."
Sounds kind of like dem voters.

How about a one time payment of say $100,000 to every single black person in America, regardless, in exchange for the cancellation of all current and future welfare payments - you folks are henceforth and forever on your own, just like the rest of us. Welcome to the real world.

I will gladly consider reparations from any living, or if dead from their estates, persons who have held others in slavery, to any living human being who has experienced, first hand, that enslavement.
If you have never, personally, experienced enslavement, then get lost.

My ancestry shows that from both sides, my family arrived in the US in the twentieth century--we therefore owned no slaves and as such, owe no ancestor of any slave a penny.
But good luck with your silly-assed idea!

The people advancing reparations have no concern about the plight of black people. It´s all about division, control of the masses, the destruction of America, and leftists having all the power and stuff. They are the party of slavery, but have they, as a party, ever apologized for slavery, Jim Crow, KKK? Have they, as a party, improved the lot of black people? No, they are the creators of brown ghettos, the reason some inner city black communities are crime-ridden and impoverished, and why some black people have an entitlement problem along with a get whitey problem. They have dumbed down education, made being on welfare no longer something to be ashamed of but almost a virtue and certainly an "entitlement," and they are the reason many black folks SEE THEMselves as second class citizens in a country that provides ample opportunity for all people to succeed.
Leftists are pure evil, and Al Sharpton is a tool and a fool. He was barely fit to be James Brown´s roadie.

Since African blacks sold other African blacks into slavery in the first place, I think that American blacks should pay each other reparations.

I believe some of the above posters are onto something. Call their bluff, say we will pay reparations and in return, no more welfare, no more affirmative action, and anyone henceforth claiming racism, calling someone racist, or playing the race card must forfeit all of their wealth to repay the cost of reparations.

Since LBJ´s Great society the U.S. has spent over $40 Trillion on everything black (that´s more than ten times spent on all other races) from welfare to prison, cradle to grave support, property damage to victims, and all we got to show for it is a worsening problem.

Some candidates will ratchet back their support for reparations by saying, "I favored the study, but it´s just part of the conversation we need to have on race relations". The larger questions are: 1. Will Democrats ratchet themselves to the middle for the general election? Or 2, will they continue to be the first national party to campaign on a platform of telling the rest of us how to live our lives?

Marriage is a kind of slavery. I figure I´m owed about forty years worth.
Excluding the successful and right-minded blacks that I know, whites did not leave them behind. They started out behind and have never bothered to try to catch up.

When did the race hustling, poverty pimping, self appointed ´reverend´ become the go-to guy of the democrat party? Why are the candidates kissing his ring?
He is one of the great fraudsters in America. Barnum and Bailey in black face. Kissing his ring should disqualify any candidate from public office.

My solution: since the Democratic Party was the originator of Jim Crow laws and the KKK, and there are still people alive who were affected by them, then the Democratic Party should pay reparations to those affected.
There.

Not with m money you won´t! My family emigrated to the US from Europe in the 1950´s-we never owned any slaves. And many black families have emigrated to the US since the Civil War-they were never slaves. But everyone who DID ever own a slave in the US was a DEMOCRAT. So let the families of the SLAVEOWNERS (hello Anderson Cooper!) pool THEIR OWN MONEY and do whatever the !@#! they want with it. Forget about using taxpayer dollars. Just forget that.

FTA:"Is Al Sharpton–a notorious extortionist, perpetrator of fraud, and anti-Semite who is complicit in murder–so powerful in the party that presidential candidates are forced to walk the plank by supporting an issue that will be a millstone around the neck of the eventual nominee?"
And his last statement is the cherry on top.
"All I know is, the more the Democrats talk about reparations, the better."
Yep, and #1 nails it, too.
We already have had reparations for the last 50 years we have been letting blacks get into colleges that they didn´t earn, and getting into jobs that they were not qualified for.
THAT has been reparations, and the cost has been incompetent employees scattered throughout our businesses and especially in government. Hell of a cost, and it is about time to end it.
