On Sunday, democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro appeared on CNN’s "State of the Union" with Jake Tapper. (Video) During the segment, Tapper spoke with Castro about the issue of reparations for descendants of slavery: "This is also dividing Democrats on the trail. You´ve said that there needs to be some kind of reparations to descendants of slaves to compensate for years of slavery and discrimination against African Americans in this country." Tapper then played a clip in which presidential rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) talks about Castro’s and Sen. Kamala Harris’ (D-CA) support for reparations: What do they

I guess every welfare black in America will find some connection to a slave somewhere back in time, much like a certain politician found herself to be part Indian (1/1024th).

I have decided that I am fully in favor of reparations. $5000. to every black person in America. Then we are done. No more affirmative action. No more quotas. No more favoritism in college admissions. No more whining about incarceration rates. No more minority redistricting. In fact, no more identity politics of any kind. It would be well worth the cost.

My ancestors lived in areas that did not have slaves. Will I be exempt from having to pay? Can I get a waiver?

Members of my family were instrumental in leading, funding, and manning the Union Army, leading directly to the defeat of the Confederacy and the freeing of the slaves. President Lincoln himself is my distant cousin. My great great great grandfather was grievously injured during the war and held at great cost to his health and future potential at Andersonville Prison Camp by the southern rebels; he eventually found work as a janitor, after sustaining terrible head wounds during the war that were made worse in prison camp. I have his Civil War papers and mustering-out record in my home office. Do I and the millions of other Americans whose ancient families suffered great personal costs to hold the union together, and to win the war, and free the slaves, get some kind of exemptions or credits?

So let me get this straight: Democrats kept slaves; Democrats started the Civil War; Democrats started the KKK; Democrats enacted Jim Crow Laws; Democrat Mayors and Governors prevented little black kids from attending white schools; and
then Democrats voted en mass against the Equal Rights Amendment.
Now they want Republican and Independent voting taxpayers to subsidize their parties transgressions to get votes from the same race of people they enslaved, lynched and denied rights too.......
The arrogance and hubris of the Democratic party knows know bounds.

620,000 Union soldiers died in the Civil War. We gave them the right to vote. The Great Society program, which they´ve squandered, was created for them. We have already addressed the issue of slavery. Whatever we give them now will never be enough.

I´ve been around for more than a few years. I watched the first black student arrive at my university and last year saw the college name a building after him.
I´ve seen affirmative action, and felt its effects--as a white guy.
I´ve been told by military promotion boards that highly-qualified white officers were passed over when, had they been black, would have been promoted.
I´ve watched people using food stamps (SNAP) to buy luxuries.
It appears to this "Toxic Male" white guy -- from a family that has never owned slaves, but are descendants of a soldier who was with Washington at Valley Forge --that reparations have already been paid —again and again.

Nearly all slave owners (as well as the KKK) were Democrats.
Simple solution: pay reparations from DNC funds.

Julian-kiss my grits. Affirmative Action has more than made up for reparations along with Pigford. If you can find a slave, let me know because I want to bill them for my family spending money to fed, house, clothe, educate, and provide horses, weapons, and uniforms for them in the Colored Army.
The not so civil war has never ended.

They´ve had reparations in the form of free housing, free heat, free a/c, free food, free medical, free lawyers, free cash, free everything since FDR made it so. How much more free is enough?

There is no way that a President Castro is going to require Hispanic or Latinos, either US citizens or immigrants, to fund any sort of reparations for Black folks. That is not going to happen because the numbers of Democrat leaning Hispanics and Latino voters that make up Castro’s voter base, are growing due to mass immigration, both illegal and legal, and eventually will greatly exceed the number of Black voters who the Democrats can count on in the years ahead.
In case you have not noticed, the Democrats have been using immigration, both illegal and legal, to permanently change the ethnic and racial makeup of the USA, along with the national voter demographics to their future political favor. That’s why the Democrat want to keep the borderline insecure, have crafted the so-called Sanctuary Cities concept to defend and protect illegal aliens that has no basis in law, have granted de facto amnesty to millions of illegal aliens without any basis in law, have stuffed the immigration laws with legal “loopholes” to make the enforcement of those laws ineffective, and are using politically based “lawfare” by way of activist liberal federal judges and courts to further complicate the removal of large numbers of illegal aliens from the USA. Unfortunately the Democrats are being covertly assisted in those efforts by many Republicans who only consider immigration to be a tool to provide massive amounts of cheap foreign labor to Republican leaning business interests that finance Republican political efforts and their re-election campaigns.
That’s why the Democrats, and some duplicitous Republicans are opposing President Trump’s efforts to secure the borderline and to ensure that the immigration laws are effectively enforced.

The only good news is Castro doesn´t seem to be gaining any traction. OTOH, this nation elected someone named Hussein so its definitely possible to elect someone named Castro. Maybe the Democrats can find a hardcore lefty named Chavez, Lenin, or Mao.

Reparations are VERY simple.
Any person who can prove that they were enslaved in the USA prior to the Emancipation Proclamation can personally come forward and claim a $1,000,000 check for reparations.
All others, pound sand.
That ship sailed a century ago, fools.
