The Federal Case Putting SPLC Under Scrutiny

Original Article

A recent episode from Forgotten History takes a deeper look at the federal case against the Southern Poverty Law Center, tracing the organization’s civil-rights roots before examining the paid-informant allegations now at the center of its legal fight. The episode does not treat the indictment as breaking news. Instead, it walks viewers through how SPLC built its reputation through lawsuits against racist organizations, then pivots to the questions now facing the nonprofit: donor transparency, paid informants, shell accounts, and the influence of “hate group” labels in media and public policy.

Congress is demanding answers after a review found that inspectors general—the federal officials charged with weeding out agency waste and fraud—are failing to police their own. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is asking the body with oversight of inspectors general across multiple agencies, the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, to provide additional documents after the Government Accountability Office found that the council missed deadlines in completing investigations, discarded complaints that should be investigated, and failed to properly monitor potential conflicts of interest.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani is officially kicking off his scheme to socialize the city’s housing stock with his “Fix the City” program. The idea of the program is to target Gotham’s worst landlords by levying heavy fines and taking court action to confiscate their buildings if they don’t fix violations and/or pay the fines. All that’s missing is the slogan: Tenants of New York unite! Dilapidated public housing for all! Don’t doubt it: The radical New York State Tenant Bloc, once headed by Cea Weaver, Mamdani’s tenant czar, is strongly pushing City Hall to use a $2.2 billion fund to “take housing off landlords’ hands.”

President Trump ordered another round of airstrikes against Iran on Wednesday, a day after more than 80 targets were hit by US forces in response to the regime’s attacks on cargo ships in the Strait of Hormuz. “At the direction of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” US Central Command said in a statement. “The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” CENTCOM added.

Given the Senate’s frustrating inability to pass the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote and photo ID to submit a ballot, it’s no wonder that many people are worried about election integrity. Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon is taking those concerns seriously, and she’s warned states that illegal aliens voting will not be tolerated. She’s also sending in teams to make sure everything’s on the up and up. Prominent conservative activist and voter‑registration guru Scott Presler hailed the move:In addition to the monitors in select states, she put all 50 on notice Tuesday:

Monday marked the third time Cuba’s worn-out National Electric System (SEN) has completely collapsed in 2026 so far, and the eighth nationwide blackout experienced by Cubans since the grid’s complete collapse in late 2024. According to Cuba-focused outlets, the blackout started around Monday at noon (local time) and remains largely unresolved 24 hours later. At press time, the Electric Union (UNE), the Castro regime’s electric authority, has reportedly not disclosed what caused the blackout, nor has it provided an estimated timetable towards restoring power. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they targeted US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait on Wednesday after the US launched a wave of military strikes on Iran in response to attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. In the latest blow to the fragile cease-fire agreement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it carried out a joint missile and drone operation against key US military sites in Bandar Salman, Bahrain’s Fifth Naval District and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, and shot down a US MQ9 drone attempting to interfere in the operation. Air raid sirens sounded in Bahrain and Kuwait, officials said.

The dynamic has been playing out for several years now. Democrats lost the presidency to Donald Trump in 2016 and ever since have maintained that the best way for them to win competitive elections is not to adopt more appealing positions, but to conceal their perverse drag queen identity beneath a corny, manifestly fraudulent aesthetic. We’ll call it “straight guy coded.” Their latest attempt just blew up in Maine, where Graham Platner is facing yet another accusation of sexual misconduct, as reported Monday in Politico. “I remember him grabbing my pelvis and being really forceful of me,”

Here’s hoping you had a safe and celebratory July 4th. Thanks for joining our study on this 250-plus-one-day. Today, I am honored to write about God’s Word in the Declaration of Independence. Our Founding Fathers recognized the importance of “Divine Providence,” and the United States was born and still stands, with “In God We Trust” on all our coins and paper money. For the record, “In God We Trust” was added to coinage in 1864 during the Civil War and first appeared on paper currency in 1957.

The damning report into failings in police leadership said bosses must be “resolute” in “refusing to take sides” and not be diverted from “focusing entirely on the prevention, detection and prosecution of crime”. Amid renewed scrutiny over ‘two-tier policing‘, police leaders are accused of “preferencing certain groups” in the review, which is one of the most thorough examinations of the force ever undertaken. Lord Blunkett, the former Labour home secretary who co-chaired the report, said there was “no room for culture wars or woke” causes in policing. “The idea that people should be diverted onto other issues is entirely wrong,” he said.

The USA's World Cup dream came to an end in Seattle as Belgium cruised into the last eight with a 4-1 victory; Charles De Ketelaere scored twice in the first half, while Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku added further goals after the break to book a quarter-final meeting with Spain. The PR circus surrounding FIFA's decision to rescind Folarin Balogun's red card and Donald Trump's involvement in the supposedly independent process had dominated the headlines ahead of the last-16 clash in Seattle. However, it appeared only to galvanise Belgium as they thrashed USA 4-1 to book a quarter-final with Spain.

Posting on 'X' shortly after POLITICO published testimony from a Maine woman who accused Platner of assaulting her in 2021, the prolific horror writer wrote "Graham Platner may drop out. I hope he doesn't, but." King then went on to reference President Donald Trump, and the numerous sexual misconduct allegations he has faced over the years, calling him the "Abuser in Chief." President Trump has consistently denied several public allegations

Somali American and Muslim community members in Minnesota are raising concerns about safety and Islamophobia after President Donald Trump posted a video showing children at a St. Paul kindergarten graduation ceremony, including several young girls wearing hijabs. The 14-second clip, originally taken from a livestream of a graduation ceremony at Gateway STEM Academy, a public charter school in St. Paul, appeared on Trump's Truth Social account without a caption. While the president did not add commentary, Somali Minnesotans and Muslim advocacy organizations say the repost amplified online narratives targeting Minnesota's Somali and Muslim communities and has left families concerned about the safety of children and schools.

It took less time than we would have imagined, but proponents of the “billionaire wealth tax” have already given the game away. Anyone who knows any history about taxes knows that the left always uses “tax the rich” as a cover to raise taxes on the middle class. Because, as Willy Sutton observed in another context, that’s where the money is. But we were surprised to see Rep. Ro Khanna admit as much, even before he and his socialist pals get their coveted wealth tax on the boards. “The tax should not stop at billionaires,” he wrote on his Substack. “The tax has to reach all fortunes $50 million and up.”

An Inspector General audit of the Minority Business Development Agency’s flagship program found that 96 percent of the reviewed transactions should not have been approved, revealing a stunning lack of oversight at the now-defunct agency and raising questions about what will happen if Democrats revive the program. The November 2025 audit, which has not been previously reported, reviewed $16 billion in transactions approved by the MBDA business center program, a network of federally funded consultancies, public and private, aimed at supporting minority-owned businesses, which had to be at least 51 percent minority-owned to qualify for services. The audit found that $15.4 billion of the $16 billion in transactions reviewed
