A federal judge in Minnesota has declined to recuse himself from an immigration case, saying the U.S. attorney's motion to recuse him "lacks merit." Minnesota U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen filed a motion Thursday seeking to disqualify the judge, arguing that he failed to disclose that his wife is leading a separate lawsuit against the federal government challenging the same enforcement operation at the center of the case. (snip) Bryan's wife -- Minnesota Solicitor General Liz Kramer -- is serving as lead council in a separate lawsuit brought by the state of Minnesota challenging the legality of the same federal enforcement operation.

Comments:

Bryan, a "Biden" judge, has been harassing the U.S. Attorney's Office with meritless contempt hearings in recent weeks. It will be recalled that a resistance magistrate judge in this district court is also married to a subordinate of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison.

I have never seen an institution shred its credibility any faster and more thoroughly than has the so-called "federal district court" system ever since the 2024 election (other than, perhaps, the so-called "medical profession" during COVID).

It's Worse Than That

Here in the United Kingdom, there is a phrase that is increasingly being used among an educated public in periodic attempts to define the very odd form of regime that's emerged principally since the prime ministerial office of Sir Keir Starmer began: Anarcho-Tyranny. (snip) What, though, has been emerging in the UK (snip) is perhaps something even worse than anarcho-tyranny (snip.) For it is not simply that basic laws against criminals are not enforced while the state imposes strict regulations against society's ordinary members, but rather that the state goes a step further in actively rewarding those people who either are or should be deemed miscreants.

In another abhorrent reminder of California's Sanctuary state status under Governor Gavin Newsom and Democrat leadership, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a targeted two-day sweep in Los Angeles, arresting nine illegal aliens convicted of heinous child sex crimes. These child predators -- many with lengthy rap sheets involving the sexual abuse of minors -- were able to live freely in California communities thanks to Democrat-driven policies (snip.) Combined with Newsom's "elderly" early release programs -- including expanded parole and pandemic-era reductions -- the state has released thousands of convicted sex offenders

There is a particular kind of irrationality that only single-party government can sustain with a straight face. “Islam is largely alien to American history—it certainly didn’t come into the United States on the Mayflower,” freshman Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Tex.) observed last month. But who, exactly, is the “we” who implemented such a reckless—indeed, suicidal—act of mass cultural importation? It’s a frustratingly difficult question—and one we ought to be asking, especially in light of recent events. For two years after the Hamas pogrom of Oct. 7, 2023, keffiyeh-clad Muslim students did their best Hitler Youth impressions on American university campuses, clamoring to eliminate the State of Israel and “globalize the intifada”

Occasionally I hear credentialed professionals with prestigious titles whine about the so-called “war on expertise.” It really bothers people who see themselves as “experts” that a growing share of society ignores them. A psychologist might intuit something revealing from the lack of self-confidence plaguing our “expert” class. If all the fancy degrees, voluminous curricula vitae, and lofty career positions have failed to instill a resilient modicum of self-esteem, then perhaps all those things are not the true measures of a person’s worth. “Experts” do not like to be challenged.
