It's still not safe to go there to live and work. Expat oil-field workers are even more likely to be captured, killed, etc., by rogue Cartel members in need of money, roaming the jungles for their next victim. Oil companies simply pay kidnapper demands and chalk it up to "operating expenses" or a sub-category on their books. Until all who did evil under Maduro are brought to Justice, which for them is found near at the end of a strong rope, then society will teeter precariously in that oil rich, Communist-inclined country.

My fondest memory of Venezuela - - was Chico Carrasquel - - shortstop for the Chicago White Sox in the 1950s. Chico was an All-Star who could really scramble on both offense and defense.

Israel Air Force strikes Iranian oil facilities,
military source says

IDF sources confirmed to The Jerusalem Post on Saturday night that the air force has attacked significant oil resources in the Tehran region of Iran. According to the sources, the oil resources being attacked are directly connected to Iran's military industrial complex. It was unclear what distinctions the IDF would make in such attacks regarding differing oil sites, but there was a clear effort by the sources to emphasize the military nature of the sites, which might otherwise be framed as harming Iran's economic power more broadly, even if a new regime might later take over.

Unknown individuals within Mexico’s Navy provided restricted weapons, tactical gear, and body armor to members of the terrorist organization Cartel Jalisco New Generation. The revelation comes from a former cartel hitman who revealed to authorities in April 2025 that he personally went to pick up stashed weapons for the criminal organization. The information is based on the written statements made by El Elegante, a code name given to a protected witness by Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office. Mexico’s Reforma first published some of El Elegante’s statements this week, revealing that the weapons and gear that cartel gunmen used would often come straight from Mexican Navy warehouses.

One of the many idiotic stunts Democrats pulled during the State of the Union address in late February was to proudly announce they were inviting illegal immigrants to President Trump's speech. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) called out three of them on X shortly before the event started: Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO), and Rep. Seth Moulton (MA-06). Regarding Moulton's "guest," DHS wrote that "@RepMoulton plans to bring illegal alien Marcelo Gomes DaSilva. Gomes DaSilva is an illegal alien who has no right to be in our nation. We are committed to enforcing the law and

Foreign Policy magazine is a mouthpiece of the foreign policy establishment that has been wrong about nearly everything for many years. It emails its content daily; today’s featured article is “The Iran War Is Jeopardizing the Entire Global Economy.” Spoiler alert: the global economy is going to survive. So why does taking out the mullahs jeopardize the entire global economy? It is easy to see why it might help the global economy; freeing Iran’s 92 million people and allowing them to join the modern world would unquestionably give the global economy a shot in the arm. So why say that the world’s economy is threatened with destruction?

The New York Times sulkily refuses to give President Trump any credit for eliminating the power structure of an authoritarian, murderous Islamic regime working hard to build a nuclear weapon, one that’s bedeviled America, Israel, and the Western world by supporting terror attacks for over 40 years. The latest example of the paper’s petulance ran on Wednesday’s front page, a “news analysis” by Tyler Pager: “Initiating War Is Legacy Risk For President.” Pager got off to a dismal start, with a dense parade of Iran negatives. Six American service members were killed, and U.S. military jets were shot out of the sky. Investors are bracing for market

Imagine all of this sturm und drang over someone who may not even be vertical and respiratory. Ever since the death of Ali Khamenei in the opening seconds of the joint US-Israeli military action, Iran has technically been without a head of state. The Supreme Leader in Iran controls all policy and action, as well as commanding all of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic. Ali Larijani and Masoud Pezeshkian can issue orders while hiding in hospital offices, but they do not have the perceived divine and theological authority that the top mullah has in these systems, and that authority is everything. Like most dictatorships, any vacuum

Yesterday there was some kind of major fault at the largest power station on the island, putting at least two-thirds of the country into darkness. Today, reports indicate the power is still off for about half the island and the best indications are that it could be several more days before repairs are completed. A blackout left millions of people without power in Havana and the rest of western Cuba on Wednesday in the latest outage on an island struggling with dwindling oil reserves and a crumbling electric grid. President Trump announced Thursday that Senator Markwayne Mullin (R., Okla.) will replace Kristi Noem as Homeland Security Secretary. The announcement comes after Noem struggled to stand up to a public grilling by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee who pressed the former South Dakota governor on Tuesday about a $220 million ad campaign contract that was subcontracted to one of her longtime allies. Trump was furious at Noem for insisting during the hearing that he had personally approved the contract and began floating Mullin’s name as a potential replacement, National Review first reported early Thursday.

American gasoline prices continued to rise on Friday and are up the most of any week since 2022. Iran widened attacks on energy-producing countries near its borders and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed to shipping, dashing hopes for a quick resolution to a crisis sending shockwaves through global markets. The United States last Saturday began a military campaign in Iran, one that has continued throughout the week with aggression. Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern, the U.S. national average price for regular gasoline had jumped approximately 35.9 cents per gallon from the same time in the previous week, reaching approximately $3.34 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.

A significant number of House Democrats voted “no” on declaring the Islamic Republic of Iran a “state sponsor of terrorism.” Sponsored by Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL), the resolution passed the U.S. House on Thursday by a 372-53 vote. Two Democrats voted present. While squad members like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) were expected to vote “no,” a full 53 proved somewhat surprising. The resolution said nothing about President Trump’s strikes on Iran, while saying the regime “remains the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism and provides substantial financial and military support to groups including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis,”

By blocking a Senate vote that would let the SAVE Act become law, Democrats are setting themselves up for big trouble — since their arguments against voter-ID are so transparently absurd. Per Pew, 83% of all American adults support requiring some form of ID to vote in US elections — and that includes 71% of Democrats. Which explains the massive alliance of left-wing groups mobilized to fight the voter-ID measure that should appear on the ballot this fall in California, a state Democrats now completely dominate. The ACLU, Common Cause and so on would love to derail the measure before it faces a vote, even though

Tova Noel was one of the two Metropolitan Correctional Center workers accused of falsifying records to say they checked on Epstein throughout the night before his Aug. 10, 2019, suicide.[snip] Earlier that shift, Noel, 37, shopped for furniture online and snoozed on the job instead of making the mandated checks on Epstein every 30 minutes, while Thomas perused motorcycles, prosecutors said.

The argument against the war with Iran boils down to two points. The first point is that this war was initiated by the hated President Trump, and so it should be opposed. That point cannot be rebutted because it is not a point at all; it’s simply a reactionary expression of hate by people who scarcely bother to conceal their hope that Iran wins. So, let’s move on to the second point. The second point is that we were able to handle Iran’s aggression for many years without going to war, and so we could have continued to handle its aggression for many more years without going to war.

We should all be concerned about serious problems with our elections, the heart of our democracy. But we can’t fix problems that we refuse to face. There was no better example of the head-in-the-sand attitude than what was recently demonstrated by Kristen Welker of NBC’s prestigious Meet the Press, as she held forth with House Speaker Mike Johnson in February, regarding, among other topics, the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. In the wake of the Trump administration’s FBI seizure of 2020 Georgia election records, Welker barked at Johnson that raising questions about the validity of the 2020 election is dangerous to our democracy.

Critics who call Operation Epic Fury folly or a distraction are missing the point: Iran is just one front in an ongoing, evolving global contest that includes Russia and China. It stretches to other fronts as well, though President Donald Trump has shut down the one in Venezuela and looks to have Cuba headed the same way. But Tehran is much more entangled with Moscow and Beijing, exchanging arms, technical know-how and intelligence. Even now, Russia is giving Iran high-quality intelligence to target missiles on US installations, experts conclude: Such precision is beyond the limited capabilities of the Islamic Republic’s handful of military-grade satellites.
