Khamenei Preparing to Flee

Original Article

The London Times reports that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is making plans to flee to Russia if protests against his misrule continue: Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has a back-up plan to flee the country should his security forces fail to suppress protests or desert, according to an intelligence report shared with The Times. Khamenei, 86, plans to escape Tehran with a close circle of up to 20 aides and family, should he see that the army and security called on to quell the unrest are deserting, defecting or failing to follow orders. Which is how unpopular dictatorships collapse.

FTA - "If Maduro’s apprehension motivates Iranians to continue their protests, and if it causes the mullahs and–more important–their security forces to think the handwriting is on the wall, the regime’s collapse could come sooner than anyone expects." Will believe it when I see it. Here's to hoping that whoever would replace Khamenei isn't another muslim.

The ball is in the military's court. Without them, the clerics cannot hold onto their power. Many Iranians remember that life was much better prior to the clerics taking over, even despite the heavy hand of the Shah.

This may be propaganda to motivate the protestors to keep protesting to get the outcome wanted. Nevertheless, Khamenei would be best advised to leave, before he gets the rope and tree treatment from the Iranian people. I think he has raised their ire, and there is no turning back. And Khamenei, maybe you should consider the possibility that half your security detail consists of Mossad agents---if that is important to you.

True we’ve seen this before. But, because of Trump the ground is shifting in the Middle East. He’s the first President to actively support an uprising of the Iranian people. Obama backed the Khamenei regime and the Biden WH was run by the same people. And let’s not underestimate the impact the Delta Force made in Venezuela. They and Trump proved that anything can be done. Trump already hit Iran once and the remaining dictators are very mindful of what happened when Maduro FA. We shall see.

I have to imagine Khamenei can mobilize a million followers. I think it will be difficult to remove him. The main threat to Khamenei is a military coup, but he has done frequent purges. Would love to see Khamenei flee. Ironic he would go to 'godless' Russia. Khamenei is the leader of the Shiites. Isn't there another Shiite nation for him to flee to? Does that make Khamenei a fraud?

On Monday night, I was scrolling through X when I saw talk about something happening in Caracas, Venezuela's capital city. I follow a lot of Latin American journalists, including many exiled Venezuelans who live in the United States, and they were kind of freaking out over what appeared to be some sort of military action around Miraflores Palace, the Venezuelan version of the White House. Initially, there was talk of shots fired and explosions. Videos showed armed men in the streets carrying weapons. People were reportedly evacuated from several nearby buildings.

A Minnesota hotel operating under the Hilton Hotels brand canceled reservations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Department of Homeland Security agents earlier this month, a decision that led Hilton to cut ties with the independently owned location. “The independent hotel owner had assured us that they had fixed this problem and published a message confirming this,” Hilton said in a statement Tuesday morning. “A recent video clearly raises concerns that they are not meeting our standards and values. As such, we are taking immediate action to remove this hotel from our systems.”

The dramatic change in Venezuela's leadership is going to have impacts around the world, but probably most significantly in Cuba, which has relied on Venezuela for fuel for decades. For decades, Venezuela provided the communist-run island with the bulk of its fuel and financing in exchange for Cuban doctors, teachers and security personnel. Without those programs, the island’s already devastating energy woes will worsen and its shortages of food, medicine and basic goods will become even more pronounced.

Tim Walz is, in himself, not a particularly interesting man. He has always been rather petty and stupid, with the intellectual and political depth of a puddle after a spring drizzle. Like many a petty and stupid man, he likes to puff up his resume, pretend to be more important than he is, and use decibels and large gestures to simulate passion and leadership abilities. He is, literally, the assistant coach who tells everybody he coached his team to the big game, or the soldier who bails from deployment while claiming to be a war hero. Yet the career of Tim Walz is, in fact, interesting. Very interesting, actually,

Ousted former Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro pleaded not guilty at his first court appearance Monday after the U.S. seized him in Caracas in a remarkable military operation over the weekend. Surrounded by federal agents, the socialist strongman arrived at a New York City courthouse Monday morning to face charges related to drug trafficking. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the federal charges against Maduro and his wife on Saturday after U.S. forces carried out the successful operation to capture the pair from their heavily fortified home. During the proceedings, Maduro insisted he was “kidnapped” from his home and remains president of Venezuela, an outburst that Manhattan federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein

Reuters noted that the decree has been in effect since Saturday but was published in full on Monday. The decree comes even as Rodriguez called on the U.S. to "work jointly on a cooperation agenda" and appealed for peace and dialogue after assuming the role following the capture of Maduro.

We saw Democrats calling it illegal and claiming that Trump needed Congressional approval to effect Maduro's arrest. Their hypocrisy is something else. Do they recall how many civilians Barack Obama in foreign countries reportedly took out with his drone actions, which led to some referring to him as the Droner-in-Chief? Obama embraced the US drone programme, overseeing more strikes in his first year than Bush carried out during his entire presidency.
