Old Joe Biden put down his ice cream cone and rejoined the fray on Friday, delivering a major speech at the International LGBTQ+ Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. The first question that leaps to mind is connection with this is: What on earth were the gays thinking? Whose bright idea was it to have Old Joe Biden, of all people, headline their conference? Didn’t they know that the man can barely string a coherent sentence together even when he is simply reading it off a teleprompter? In any case, the queer gathering got exactly what you’d expect.

Two reasons: I generally admired the young women who competed in them, and it seemed like almost every time, an interesting news story would emerge from the pageant. Among the first things I taught my new students at the beginning of every new school year was the difference between deference and respect. One defers to others because of their position of authority, regardless of whether they are honest, honorable, decent and capable. Respect, however, must be earned every day. We defer to others because of their positions and to a lesser degree, their accomplishments. We respect others because of who they are, because they’ve proved themselves worthy of our respect regardless of their positions of authority.
In the military, you defer to rank, but you respect those who don’t trade on it, or who fling their accomplishments

An alleged gunman remains on the loose in an active shooter situation on the campus of Brown University, school officials said after retracting an announcement that they had arrested a suspect.
