The Schumer Shutdown is rolling on with no signs of any imminent deals, and some government benefit programs are starting to run out of funds. One such is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the food stamp program. It's about to run out of money, but Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) has introduced a bill to fund the program through the shutdown.
The Keep SNAP Funded Act of 2025 would keep the food aid program funded during the government lapse until the Department of Agriculture is funded through regular appropriations or stopgap measures.
The bill is the companion to a SNAP-funding bill in the Senate

Democrats are making Americans homeless and starving them of food. I hope the leftwing propagandists decide to cover this tragedy.

Those ignorant, pigmented snap users will still vote Democrat.

So, why can't we have a stand-alone military-pay funding bill?

I was hoping that this program would GO AWAY. Get off your butt and earn your food. I don't want to pay for your food.

#3, I think there WAS a stand-alone bill to fund the military, the 'Rats voted it down.
I did a quick search, and found this:
link: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/16/government-shutdown-military-pay.html
Article title: Bill to fund military during government shutdown fails in Senate procedural vote (Oct 16, 2025)
But then, I also saw this:
link: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/us/senate-passes-bipartisan-925-billion-defense-policy-bill.html
Article title: Senate Passes Bipartisan $925 Billion Defense Policy Bill (Oct. 9, 2025)
At this point, all I know is that there's a lot going on.
Maybe the one that passed the Senate is a POLICY bill, and the one that was defeated was a FUNDING bill.
Perhaps an L-Dotter who is better informed than me can fill us all in.
All the Best, Y'all!

Always a bleeding heart around. I believe that skipping a few meals and a bunch of non-nutritious snacks would wake the SNAP people up and get them into the employment line. I could be wrong.

Yeah, SNAP program, and all the other Federal EBT schemes should just disappear completely, forever.
Let each individual state run whatever welfare programs that the majority of their legal, legitimate, voting citizens approve.

Most SNAP recipients are not Republican voters. SNAP funding should not be even be considered as something to fund through the shutdown. I don't care if it is to shame the dems. First, Pubs were whining about WIC, now SNAP.

When a Big Mac meal costs $17, there are a lot of people who need help. This situation has come about through little fault of their own. And we cannot justify abandoning them. But I believe any SNAP bill should have tightened eligibility requirements.

Fund military and law enforcement first. Consider SNAP and other social programs after that. Giving money away shouldn't be a priority when men and women are earning it but not getting it paid.

Oh for crying out loud - food stamps aka SNAP benefits and WIC were and are not designed to be a person or family's sole source of food. Every town, small and large has at lest one food bank where the bleeding heart libs who run them give food away without any questions.
Once again, WIC was created by Congress in 1972 as a 2 year temporary program to promote breastfeeding...

Can't wait for this to be voted down by Democrats, who will say they can't choose winners and losers in the shutdown. Can't wait to see the news on TV of the families who can't afford a Thanksgiving dinner this year because of the shutdown and Trump calling out Democrats.

Well said, #12! Lyin' Lyndon's 1965 'Great Society' is the fundamental cause of out-of-control Federal spending, which in turn is the cause of the persistent Federal deficits and inflation that we have faced since then.
From the Founding up until the Welfare State really took hold, an ounce of gold cost $35.
Today an ounce of gold costs about $4,300. A Dollar today is worth less than what a Penny was worth in 1965.
Per #14, "WIC was created by Congress in 1972 as a 2 year temporary program"
There is nothing so permanent as a Federal 'Temporary' handout program... except perhaps a 'Temporary' TAX!

im noooo expert on this but: i've heard these programmes also are rigged to favour pre-planned
census and voting demographics, not necessarily eligibility or neediness.
i'd love to see the stats relied upon by the lady from iowa and what ,if anything, doge has done.
fair dinkum
