Some really big news in the American military community broke this week, as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is convening an unprecedented meeting of his senior generals and admirals in Quantico, Virginia, on Tuesday, September 30th. As the proprietor of a somewhat prolific X account that largely focuses on military matters, many people have been asking me what I think this meeting is all about, as the meeting is currently shrouded in mystery. So what do I think?

The only thing that troubles me about his scenario is that back in the 80's, every time President Reagan went on TV and gave a speech, within hours our base was put on full alert and we practiced full blow war, with the first shift 24 hours and 12-16 thereafter. Sleep was on the ground, in a corner or a chair if you were lucky. Chow for the first few days was what you squirreled away in your duffel bag. Sometimes it lasted for a week or more. It got to where I dreaded those speeches.
Can you imagine the alerts a speech like this might cause? Glad I'm retired.

Personally, I feel like he's not going to wait for some of these people to resign. I think the purpose of the meeting has been kept secret so as to not give the DEI appointees a chance to coordinate a response to save their butts. I would not be at all surprised to see those people fired right there and then as an example to the rest. We'll see.

I am with #2 and hope that SecWar will call out a few names during the meeting, telling them they can pick up their labeled retirement packets from the table in the corner. Public firings have a way of focusing the minds of other wannabes.

The authors imagined scenario sounds like Pete is laying down the law. It’s sounds like he’s drawn al line in the sand. But i am hoping it’s more harsh and that “those whom Pete’s giving one last chance” are NOT given that chance and that they are fired on the spot and humiliated in front of all the others. They have had a year since the election and if they still are acting like politicians, it’s over for them.

A fun and entertaining proposal for what may happen on September 30th. I just realized the meeting conveniently falls on the last day of this fiscal quarter. Is this a portent? I agree with this author's assessment that the room will be filled with both warfighters and fat bureaucrats that get to wear spiffy uniforms. I believe there will be a lot of fat cut away on that day.

How many of today’s be medaled Admirals and Generals have ever won a real war? That’s an easy one, none of them. So why are they wearing up to ten rows of ribbons and all sorts of other badges on their uniforms that put the old Second World War Soviet Marshals who commanded the Red Army against the Nazis to shame? Take a look at the real admirals and Generals who won the Second World War, like General Eisenhower, who was the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, after that war he wore only two or three rows of ribbons on his uniform. Hopefully Hegseth knows full well that today’s Admirals and Generals, for the most part, are politicians in uniform, and do not think that any US elected civilian should dare to tell them how they should operate.
