The more we learn about Democrat Mikie Sherrill, current Member of Congress and candidate to be New Jersey's next governor, the more she looks like your average, scandal-plagued DC swamp rat. We reported earlier on her Nancy Pelosi-esque ability to leverage her congressional tenure into remarkable stock market gains, and now we're learning that Sherrill has a scandal-ridden record going back to her days at the United States Naval Academy.
Here's what went down.
Back in December of 1992, two dozen of Sherrill's fellow midshipmen were expelled from the Naval Academy after it was discovered they had obtained and shared the answers to an electrical engineering exam.

If she cheated, she should be GONE, now.

I have had four relatives attend USNA, and that institution used to ABSOLUTELY not put up with any hint of cheating. Cheating at the service academies needs to be treated very harshly.

Had she turned in her classmates for their cheating, she'd have been more of a DemoRAT? Not a true scandal to this reader. Find something else to attack her over, please.

I doubt that she served with "distinction and honor" if she covered up for other students' cheating. And I wonder if she actually cheated herself.

Sorry, #3, not reporting cheating is unacceptable at the service academies. Calling them "rats" is a low class cut.....they are supposed to be totally honorable, and not tolerate cheaters. Not reporting them in tolerating cheating.

The 'Pelosi-like stock market gains' sounds to me like it confirms her Academy punishment -did she get off lightly because of DEI?-
Anyway.... another crooked 'RAT.

Essentially the honor code is "I will neither cheat, steal, nor line, and will not tolerate those who do".
If she knew, and didn't report them, then she broke her oath.
Curtains for Mikie.

“We will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does.” Lived it for four years. Got the ring to prove it. She didn’t and was lucky to be allowed to graduate and be commissioned. Simple as that.
Now, do we hold continue to hold her to that high bar when the vast majority of our politicos can hardly aspire to something that even approaches that standard. Regrettably, i don’t think so. Wish it were different though.

She "graduated" The Naval Acadmy in 1994, was in the 1st crop of female combat aircraft trainees, she flew SeaKing anti sub helo's, had ONE active airwing deployment...in Corpus Christie Tex, went to DC/Georgetown for her Law Degree, then became a staffer to centcom europe on Russian Issues...9 years in service as a Lieutenant, she was eventually promoted to Lt Commander then immediately left the service."Highest Honors and Distinctions" in my mind would more usually apply to combat active service members who spent at least SOME time in a Warzone, particularly for the years from '94-2016, and it usually also is demonstrated by a sommat faster promotion schedule than she achieved.

Annapolis isn't West Point. In brief, Midshipman do not lie, cheat, or steal. Nothing in the honor concept there about not tolerating those who do, and they have three options upon learning that a fellow Mid is in violation: report them, counsel them, or do nothing.

At Annapolis, Sherrill violated the honor code. In congress, she specialized in insider trading. Once a cheat always a cheat.

She won't sign off on opening her records. Smells like guilt to me. Why wasn't she expelled while 20 others were expelled? That's the question. Transparency Mikie. You're running for public office not a throne position.

She got her start during the Billy Clinton days. It seems her “moral code” was (is) more reflective of the Clinton mores rather than the higher moral code of the Academy. If I recall correctly, the moral standards in the Navy (in particular) had sunk pretty low in practice.

#3, I do not agree. She knew cheating was going on, which devalued the degree and the graduating cheaters' character, not to mention the honor code at the academy. Standing around watching a crime makes you an accomplice. Would you have reported them? I cut her no slack, sorry.

I am a graduate of the Air Force Academy. The honor code is, "We will not lie, cheat or steal NOR TOLERATE AMONG US THOSE WHO DO" (emphasis mine). It was copied almost verbatim from the West Point honor code. Tolerating is considered as bad as the original offense. If you know of an honor violation you are honor bound to report it. The Naval Academy has an Honor Concept which, apparently, does not include the toleration clause.

What is wrong with the Republicans in New Jersey that they didn't use the fact that she is a cheat against her when she was running for Congress?

If she becomes Governor of NJ and discovers corruption in the NJ Cities which are in her party will she root it out or tolerate it like she did in the Academy? Past history is that she will ignore it. Suburban NJ will continue to get ripped off till they all head for Florida.

The USNA has an 'Honor Concept,' unlike the Air Force Academy and West Point, which have Honor Codes. The differences are more than semantic. Post WW I, the new USNA superintendent seemed to prefer a 'bottom up' approach to improving the academy's honor policy, intended to graduate and commission new officers of high moral character, involving the entire USNA 'Brigade" of Midshipmen, the Navy term for body of student officer trainees, relative to the Honor Concept development or revision. H.Ross Perot was one such midshipman in the 1930s who played a key leadership role in crafting more coherent changes to Honor Concept policy, intended to churn out more morally fit officers; however, USNA faculty officers over the Midshipmen, continued to maintain a 'top-down' approach to discipline and Honor Concept violations, which did not include meaningful Brigade participation. Perot's idea of self-policing the Honor Concept was rejected in practice by the officers in charge. One significant change that was proposed and implemented for a period of time, involved Midshipmen who observe cheating from a classmate. This policy would allow the observing Midshipman to personally intervene and counsel the classmate to rectify the situation, with no requirement to report the episode to superiors. The 1992 Electrical Engineering test cheating scandal, the subject of this article, was one of the worst cases of Honor Concept violation in the academy's history. It is still a mess and begs to be settled, perhaps by the Commander-in-Chief, himself.

My dad, a late-1940s USNA graduate, is spinning in his grave. Women of course were not admitted in those days, if Miss Mickie's sex is relevant in this particular case.
