Already a quarter billion in the hole,
woke Denver wants to keep digging

Denver is in financial trouble. They ran a $50 million deficit this year, which is projected to balloon to $200 million next year. Denver’s expenses are systematically exceeding its revenues. Real-world entities would address this problem with a combination of (1) increasing their revenues and (2) decreasing their expenses. But Denver is not a real-world entity. It’s a government entity. It plans to do what governments do in government-world: It plans to borrow money. A lot of it. They’re putting on the ballot a bond proposal amounting to almost a billion dollars. By the time the bonds are paid off with interest years down the road, it would amount to nearly two billion.

Behind closed doors, the plan is to borrow the money, make the payments for two years, and then pray that a Dem is back in the White House so that the Feds will pick up the unpaid amount.

Colorado: a once beautiful state going in the dumpster. Liberals ruin everything they touch. I have a combined 47 years of residency in Colorado, and I have watched the state’s steady deterioration with sadness: increasing crime (and I am sorry, libertarians, but it is directly traceable to legalized marijuana, combined with Soros-type DAs and judges and criminal illegals); homelessness; poor roads; rising housing costs; etc. Colorado used to be a red state, but the dems adopted a successful “takeover and convert” strategy, and now they are firmly entrenched. I cannot see any reasonable path to unseating these California-trained dems, and the state will continue its downward spiral. I would leave in a heartbeat (as many have already done) were it not for the fact that my kids and their kids all live here.

Denver seems to be desperately trying to become the Los Angeles of the Rocky Mountains. You have to hand it to these blue state/blue city democrats, they're dumber than a box of rocks but they can't see it. This is the end result of placing ideology before logic.

Everything #5 said applies to me. When I moved to Colorado 38 years ago, it was a different place. I could get anywhere in town in 20 minutes. Colorado had ONE area code for all the phones; they got another one a year later. I went into a gun store and asked what was involved in buying a handgun; the proprietor said “walk through my front door - bring money.” I-25 going to Denver had two lanes each way, and it wasn’t crowded. Democrats had some modicum of sense. Democrats have now turned Denver into a shitehole. I haven’t been downtown in over five years.

Colorado has fallen. In 2000, Colorado had a two GOP senators, a GOP governor, and Republicans controlled the state legislature. By about 2006, all that flipped. “takeover and convert” That strategy was largely financed by Pat Stryker and Jerod Polis.

I have to say this was the most Refreshing Read I've been lucky enough to come across in a long time! I love Mr. Beaton's take on things! That said, he is spot on! My daughter and Family live in Bailey, CO. They are a Young couple raising three kids, They live in a rural area so they don't have much to say about Denver, other than they would NEVER live there! Too Bad. Last time I visited Evergreen, I thought it was a Beautiful Little Town that looked like a Hallmark Christmas Card! Too bad the Democrats can't be run out of Town so that the People can enjoy the Beauty, but then, I guess it's the People who VOTE these Democrats into office! Sad but true!!

$2 Billion if it is ever paid off. Who would be stupid enough to loan money to an entity that is borrowing money to pay the bills. I know the answer. The United States. But the United States just prints more ,Colorado can't do that.

The nature of humans and their relationships is complex and interesting. It involves friendship, hate, cooperation, competition, love, impulse, greed, work, betrayal, family, tribes, envy, sympathy and dozens of other emotions. Great writers and even bad ones have written billions of words on these powerful feelings, and how they function and dysfunction in groups of humans. Writers keep writing about them and their readers keep reading about them because they strike a chord within us. We witness them in our everyday lives.

They call themselves “Danes.” Anyway, the Danes are mad as hell. Or at least heck. You see, back when the Spanish were looting the locals in South and Central America, and the Portuguese were lucratively, if inhumanely, trading slaves in what’s now Brazil, and the English were accidentally planting the seeds of a great republic in North America, the Danes were . . . [drum roll] . . . . . . stealing ice from the Eskimos. Here’s the story.

The Republicans finally did something great that I thought they never would have the stones to do. They reduced the funding for the government-controlled media outfit called The Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Hallelujah! CPB was established half a century ago with the good intention of providing television and radio services to rural America in a day long before cable TV and megawatt radio stations made television and radio ubiquitous, and long, long before the internet made them obsolete. Fine.

The “Front Range” of the Colorado Rocky Mountains stretches a few hundred miles from Wyoming to New Mexico. It’s where the plains meet the mountains. It’s high plateaus of grasslands, gnarly ponderosa pines and sandstone bluffs. It’s anchored by 14,107-foot Pikes Peak, named in honor of the 1806 expedition to the region led by explorer Zebulon Pike. “Pikes Peak or Bust” was the slogan of intrepid gold rush pioneers making their way across the Great Plains to Cripple Creek and other gold camps west of Colorado Springs. Those early gold rushers traveling on foot, horses and wagons were able to see Pikes Peak

After losing to the one guy they were certain they could beat, Democrats are making a show of puzzling over how to win elections. It’s not really much of a puzzle. They simply need to get on the right side of some easy 80/20 issues. Like illegal immigration. Like men competing in women’s sports. Like catching and punishing criminals. Like the First Amendment. Like disclaiming Marxism. Why can’t the Democrats see this? Well, they can. Democrats are just pretending they can’t because they don’t want to alienate . . . Democrats.

The first to say that was Julius Caesar. After his crushing win over a Persian/Greek king in what is now Turkey, Caesar reported to the Roman Senate with characteristic immodesty and uncharacteristic brevity: “Veni, vidi, vici.” I came, I saw, I conquered. Caesar had a flair for drama. He similarly came, saw and conquered most of Gaul – what is now France – in an era well before the invention of B2 stealth bombers. Travelling from Rome to Gaul was an arduous multi-month sea and land adventure. Conquering the barbarians there was a crazy idea for anyone but Caesar.

Girls don’t usually fight. There are sound reasons for this – reasons of general decorum, biology, hormones, jewelry, dresses and hairdos. But when they do, boy oh boy, it can be a doozy. It happened yesterday at the Supreme Court. The case was an appeal of a district court order issuing a “universal injunction” against President Trump’s executive order seeking to abolish “birthright citizenship.” Birthright citizenship is the kind you get if you’re born in America even if your parents are here illegally. The 14th Amendment seems to provide for it, although there is a non-frivolous argument that it does not.

CNN last week got their hands on a classified document stolen from the National Security Agency. That’s a felony punishable by ten years in prison, by the way. The stolen document guessed that the efforts by Israel and America to neutralize Iran’s nuclear weapon program had set back the program by only “a few months.” CNN and the rest of the media cabal could hardly contain their glee. They celebrated the failure of America and Israel. Hardly mentioned in CNN’s report was that the document itself noted that its conclusions were merely “preliminary” and were expressed with only “low confidence.”

In what is already being called “The 12-Day War,” the bad guys have surrendered. It took a bit longer than its namesake, The Six-Day War, but it was every bit as heroic. Israel beat an opponent that outnumbered it nine to one. An opponent that was on the verge of nuclear weapons to make good on its decades-old threat to obliterate Israel from the River to the Sea. An opponent that has fomented terrorism throughout the Mideast. An opponent that militarily, financially and logistically supported the horrible October 7 pogrom, a slaughter of unspeakable cruelty.

You’ll recall that a federal judge in California ruled against Trump in the dispute over his use of the National Guard to protect federal buildings in Los Angeles from rioters who demand a permanent open border. CHICAGO — Former President Joe Biden expressed alarm Thursday about attacks on the rule of law and threats to civil rights under President Donald Trump in some of his most pointed criticism about the new administration since leaving office. Biden, speaking to the National Bar Association in Chicago, did not mention Trump by name but his intended target was clear during remarks that only ran about 20 minutes. “You can’t sugarcoat it. These are dark days,” Biden told the crowd of nearly 1,100 members of the predominantly Black legal organization. The remarks echoed, at least in tone, some of his

She’s been very vocal about U.S. policy toward Mexico. For example, she said she would offer legal counsel to her citizens that were here illegally that were picked up, she thought, unfairly or too violently by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She also said that the United States had no business taxing remittances—that is money that Mexican nationals here, for the most part illegally, send back to Mexico. She said, “Do not come into Mexican national ground if you’re going after the cartels.”

If Hegseth were to follow through on the discussions, it would amount to a major leadership shake-up at the department that oversees the American military and millions of federal employees. The Defense Department bars civilian employees from running for political office, meaning Hegseth would have to resign to do so. In a statement, Sean Parnell, the Pentagon’s chief spokesman, said, “Hegseth’s focus remains solely on serving under President Trump.”
