Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said on Monday that President elect-Trump “and his transition team are already breaking” a law on presidential transition. “Donald Trump and his transition team are already breaking the law,” Warren said in a post on the social platform X. “I would know because I wrote the law. Incoming presidents are required to prevent conflicts of interest and sign an ethics agreement.” “This is what illegal corruption looks like,” she added. Warren was responding to a report from CNN on Saturday that said a conflict of interest pledge included in the Presidential Transition Act was, in part, keeping multiple transition agreements from being submitted

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, whose country is hosting the COP29 climate summit this week, lashed out at Western media and climate activists on Tuesday for criticizing his country’s oil and gas industries. Aliyev said oil and gas were a “gift from God,” fossil fuels cannot be eliminated entirely, and climate extremists have subjected Azerbaijan to a “well-orchestrated campaign of slander and blackmail.” Aliyev said all of these things during his keynote address to the COP29 conference, enraging many of the attendees, even though he said he was committed to a gradual transition away from carbon-emitting energy production.

Trump’s nominations are coming thick and fast, and among the more interesting is his selection of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a new Department of Government Efficiency: Despite the name, Trump clarified in a statement that the Musk-Ramaswamy effort would “provide advice and guidance from outside of Government” in tandem with the White House and its Office of Management & Budget “to drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before.” So I take it there won’t be an actual department, it will just be Elon and Vivek and maybe some aides.

One of the biggest winners of the 2024 election was Scott Jennings. The folksy columnist and former George W. Bush staffer was a dominant force in his role as CNN's token Republican, regularly holding his own in one-on-five debates with Democrats and journalists who support Democrats. As a normal American, Jennings often seemed out of place on CNN, mostly because he wasn't afraid to criticize Democrats but also because of his insightful commentary and because he never lost his cool—or his sense of humor—when his remarks were inevitably met with incredulous screeching. When Jennings wasn't calling out his onscreen

Hundreds of posters depicting Jewish faculty members as “wanted” were plastered across the University of Rochester campus in upstate New York on Sunday night, an antisemitic act the school’s president told CNN “would not be tolerated.” The posters criticize faculty members for their alleged response to the war in Gaza.

The campaign’s remittance to Sharpton’s National Action Network was part of a flurry of donations—$5.4 million in all—to black and Latino advocacy groups that seem aimed at winning Harris support from those constituencies. Harris’s campaign gave two payments of $250,000 to National Action Network on Sept. 5 and Oct. 1, according to campaign finance records.

Not Richard Grennell, eh? I bet the intelligence community feels pretty nervous now. Donald Trump hasn't made his choice of Director of National Intelligence public yet, and now Grennell's available. Grennell would have had an inside track on Secretary of State after his tenure as US Ambassador to Germany in the first Trump term. Instead, the New York Times reports that Trump will appoint Marco Rubio to run the State Department, where he will work with Elise Stefanik as Trump's ambassador to the UN.
