The union representing Miami-Dade police officers said in a statement Monday that Tyreek Hill was "uncooperative" and was only "redirected" to the ground while in handcuffs during his detainment before the Miami Dolphins' game Sunday because he refused orders to sit.

Just wondering, if this had been a, say, white male golfer if things would have been handled differently? Like arrest, mug shot, you know the routine.

I think the first poster is trying to bring race to the fore. This person screwed up, and that is that. Being a known sports figure means nothing. He screwed up and deserve the punishment, whatever it is. Being a sports figure don't entitle anyone when they break the law, and that is that.

What I heard on espn is that the officer was sent to a desk. The tv news account was that the officer was a little rough and Hill was not understanding neither

Regardless of race, color, or national origin,
One should always be aware that contempt of cop
is a capitol offense in America...

Reply to #2 - there are videos on the net where Police tell detainees of many colors - white, black, brown, etc. to sit on the ground. That command is demeaning to any individual regardless of the traffic offense. Police should treat everyone by the golden rule - do unto others like you would like them to do unto you. Race had nothing to do with my comments. Police conduct does.

I would assume that Tyreek, who has a history of domestic violence, was being a total @$$hole to the police and had to be detained for the safety of himself and the officers.

How many times has that happened? If he had kept his mouth shut and been respectful to the police officers he probably would have been waved on without even a traffic ticket.

What would happen if Tyreek refused to abide by a referees instructions during an nfl game?
the police have rules just like the national felon's league.

Mr. Hill has ajger management issues:
FTA:
"This isn't the first off-field incident involving Hill.
He was accused of punching his girlfriend in college and got kicked off the team at Oklahoma State, later pleading guilty to domestic assault and battery by strangulation. In 2019, prosecutors in suburban Kansas City declined to charge Hill after an alleged domestic violence incident involving his fiancée and their 3-year-old child.
Last offseason, Hill was under investigation by Miami-Dade police for assault and battery after it was reported that he got into an argument with a South Florida marina worker, which apparently ended with Hill hitting the worker. Hill and the man later resolved their dispute."

Some believe it's ok for a football player to assault women and drive like a maniac, but he shouldn't be "demeaned" by being asked to sit on the ground when he won't follow simple, rather benign instructions.

Part of being a professional sportsman is being a good role model. If Tyreek was an adult he would say “I was speeding and got a ticket” instead of looking into his “options”.

This happened in Miami. A black guy driving a half million-dollar car probably speeding and dressed like some street gang member. For all the cops know, he's some kind of drug lord. Add in an attitude that many blacks have when dealing with police, and you end up with someone handcuffed and sitting on the curb.

When inter acting with the gendarmes it's best to limit your conversation to: Yes, Sir. and No Sir.

Cops tell detainees to sit, lie down, put hands on the car etc. so they can't make quick moves, pull out weapons or run away. Tyreek's dangerous driving behavior is what prompted the stop. Go through the motions and be on your way. Don't run your mouth, just answer the questions.

I won't weigh in, other than to observe that Tyreek Hill is a POS, and deserves a first-class ass kicking for other reasons. Look them up.

We all can judge the police officer but I will not. This person could have fully cooperated from the start and chose otherwise. Please take a look at the human behaviors a police officer has to deal with day in and day out. I would venture to say most of the rude and uncooperative human behaviors a police officer has to deal with are unpredictable and they are left wondering if this could take the life of someone else.

The difference I see here is that Scottie complied with what the police told him to do, and Tyreek did not.

Why on Earth do Police require detainees to sit on the ground? Detainees are not dogs, they are humans. Miami-Dade Police are not a stellar police force.
