A bipartisan bill that will advance the development of nuclear energy power plants in the nation was passed by the United States Senate on Tuesday.
In an 88-2 vote, the Senate voted to pass the Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE) Act, which is part of the Fire Grants and Safety Act (S.8.70), according to a press release from the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW). The ADVANCE Act will now move forward to President Joe Biden’s desk to be signed. “Today, we sent the ADVANCE Act to the president’s desk because Congress worked together to recognize the importance of nuclear

This wouldn't have anything to do with Bill Gates recent investment, would it?

Fifty years ago Nuclear Engineering was a topic taught at all engineering schools. Then it was discontinued and on campus reactors were eliminated. Now it's making a comeback because fossil fuel generators are being canned due to the greenies. Everybody wants electricity but most don't want to be around where it's generated. Same thing with cell phones. Everyone wants a cell phone but most don't want to live near a cell phone tower.

REAL power, which can run 24/7/365 for years. Not this fantasy power like wind or solar....part time, unreliable, ultra expensive.

Lived in Newport Beach when the large blue nuclear power plant on PCH was closed some years ago. Wonder if it’s still there?

So much for solar panels and windmills. I see a lot of green energy company bankruptcies in the near future.

Cut the EPA and all the red tape that stands in the way, tell all the anti-nuke protesters that will file injunctions to stop construction to get out if the way, and maybe, we'll have a nuke plant up & running in 20 yrs.

People have caught on to the fact that electric power takes more fossil fuel to produce than using fossil fuel directly. The "clean" argument no longer holds water for the greenies.

It will take over ten years to bring a new reactor online thanks to ever expanding government regulation.

More nuclear power is good, but the green weenies will disrupt things and it will be decades before we see a single megawatt of nuclear power. Watch Biteme sign this and jump out in front of it and turn it into a campaign year ploy to make people believe this will make EVs feasible, and continue to allow the EPA to pass rules to destroy gas powered vehicles.

Dems are pulling out all the stops for November. Wind and solar power are losers when it comes to quality of life issues. That won't stop them from wasting billions more on subsidies, but at least this provides a viable alternative to gas and oil. As for me, it's not fossil-fuel generation that feeds the global climate change (sic) agenda, it's the hot air from Washington.

It was in the mid-80’s, 40 years ago, that the US gov reviewed commercial nuclear waste disposal options and concluded that deep burial was the best option. Over 10 years, the US government assessed 9 sites, winnowing them down ton5, then three, then apparently one, and then zero. Today, we have NO options for long term secure disposal of commercial nuclear wastes, after 40 years of gov busybodying. This new ADVANCE act promises to be as productive as the 40 year old gov disposal
Program, the 6 y/o gov EV charger program, and the 3y/o broadband acts. Lightning, thunder, wind…but no rain.

The "nuclear bad" Luddites, opposed to all forms of nuclear everything, have been in charge for half a century. Now the climate change crackpots have taken over and nuclear bad is ousted in favor of the "oil bad" Luddites. The more things change ...

The greenies in government will throw up every road block they can think of, and the rest will go to court to stop every project. They'll make the cost so prohibitive that no utility will finish a single nuclear plant.

The Bill only needs to be 2 lines long as expressed by poster #7. However, the ADVANCE Act is 156 pages so I fear what else is in there. That said, the Union of Constrained Anxientists is already attacking it so it must be good for America.
