WASHINGTON — Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., who announced last month he would not run for re-election, will resign from Congress early, he confirmed in a statement Friday.
Gallagher’s departure before the end of his term in January is another blow to Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and House Republicans, who have been struggling to govern and demonstrate stability in this Congress. Two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News of Gallagher's plan to resign early Friday. The Wisconsin Republican then released a statement announcing that he will depart April 19.

It certainly seems like these Republican reps are being blackmailed to quit. I certainly expect the Dems to take the House back before an impeachment vote can take place.

Dan Bongino has said that the strategy is to allow the Dems to get the majority before the election, Hakeem Jeffries would become Speaker, and all of the Biden investigations will go away. They will also have control when it comes to certification of the vote. The degree of malignancy is unbelievable. What do they have on these people? Are there no Republicans who care more about the country and truth than their own ass?

#12, I believe that your excellent comment is exactly the strategy that democrats will use to cause a Constitutional Crisis. Can you imagine the hew and cry if President Trump wins and democrats pull something like this? They truly would rather have civil war than give up their stolen power. By the looks of our Republican leaders, we’re not going to get much help from them. My goodness, how stupid do you have to be to resign at this time?! Someone should just release all the Epstein info and I mean all of it and let them deal with that. Let’s pull the curtain back in that depraved city and watch the roaches scurry away. Let them explain that perverted hedonism.

They don't want to be the majority. People might expect them to lead, and to fix things. Much easier to follow, let the Democrats run things, so that the Rebublican'ts don't have to make the tough decision between doing what their constituents want and what their big donors want.

Republicans have never effectively possessed a majority in either chamber of Congress, regardless of the numbers. They always forfeit. If they were in charge during WWII, they would have surrendered to Japan after nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

As of yet I haven't heard anything from blowhard Matt Gaetz. Surely he must have some words of wisdom now that the Republican majority will be minus by one, yet again. After he lassoed several stooges, one of them Ken Buck, who also is leaving before his term ends, to join him in his jihad against Kevin McCarthy the once small majority is now down to almost nothing. Are things looking up Matt? I don't think so, Gaetz's narcissism got the ball rolling down the ally picking off one Republican representative after another. The end result is Speaker Hakim Jeffries.

#17 - Matt Gaetz is not responsible because these coward traitors have resigned their seats. Except that he exposed their perfidy and treasonous alignment with the socialist democrats. He called them out for their decades of betrayal to their constituents and the advertised values and principles of the Republican Party. We only had a few months left of the legislative session and Speaker McCarthy had yet to hold any of the long-promised Appropriations Hearings, without which a 2024-25 budget could not be drafted. If something wasn't done immediately, we were headed towards the 16th Continuation of the 2008 U.S. Budget.
Facing a future with literally, nothing left to lose, why not boot out the quarterback we know will throw the game and replace him with that young kid on the bench? Johnson checked all the boxes and seemed promising...but the weeks melted away, and we still ended up with the 16th Continuation of the 2008 U.S. Budget. The Uniparty slipped us a ringer.
As the curtain comes down on Act II, the Deep State has our hero facing the imminent confiscation of his property and wealth by a vicious enemy twisting the law to exact collective revenge against one man. At the same time, the Deep State is flooding our country with illegals, impoverishing and endangering citizens for loving liberty and America.
At this point it matters not who is Speaker of the House. Kevin McCarthy, that Johnson guy, or Hakim Jeffries. We've got to elect true MAGA Republicans, GOPe if we have to, and Donald J. Trump as President. Focus!

The way it looks when wimpy Republican candidates who essentially are under the covers RINOS get elected to Congress they go to DC to make names for themselves, then when then get a high paying business oriented job offer, they quit and essentially leave their constituents in a lurch. But when leftist and socialist Democrat candidates get elected to Congress it turns into a career lifetime job for them and they hang out in Congress for as long as possible.

Something is wrong here. Gallagher is a distinguished and respected Marine officer, who would not readily betray his colleagues in this way without some compelling reason. His change of plan - from announcing he would not run again to near immediate resignation - can only be taken as an effort to directly cause harm. I really think something has happened to him that is not publicly known.

From the article: "But Gallagher, an institutionalist first elected to Congress in 2016, has grown frustrated with his own party. He was one of three Republicans who voted against the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas last month."
Grown frustrated with his own party? That is because he forgets who is working for and that is the American citizens. I sure hope that the RNC is becoming mature and healthy. They should be outlining what it means to be Republican and remind them of the American citizens they are serving.
It is getting to the point where I am wondering if there are any mature and healthy people left in Congress or government. It seems like the thinking is that they serve themselves first. . .

So, if dems take the House (with the Senate already in their hands along with the Presidency), what could they ram through before November? If I was them (thankfully I'm not), I'd ram through amnesty, make DC and Puerto Rico states (ensuring a permanent Senate majority) and legalize abortion on the federal level. After the election, with amnesty passed and all the bribing for votes they've done - e.g. bennies for current illegals and student loan debt payoff - and with a majority firmly in place, I'd pack the court and then the biggie, a gun buy back.

It seems a lot of the RINOs are leaving early to make it difficult or impossible for the GOP to keep their thin majority. Are they just doing this because they hate the USA, or is it because someone is paying them to leave? Perhaps George Soros is behind this.

#14 Remember what happened the last time the conservatives raised a 'hew and cry' in DC? Most of them are still in jail. The easiest way for Democrats to defeat Republicans is to break their spirit and keep them home. It's not that hard to do, as demonstrated by this thread. A couple of bad actors surface to try to collapse a tiny majority in the House and we bring out the long knives blaming everyone but the Democrats. Granted, Republicans are not well known for their brilliant legislative strategy - but they are all we've got. Either step up and get them elected or go hide under the couch.

Response 8. You no longer need to drag a million dollars through congress any more. That is soooo out dated since they all have bar codes on their foreheads. Just key your bribe in your phone and scan the bar code. Its as easy as that

Great ... so now we are down to 217 versus 213. Several seats are still vacant. Lose two votes to the other side and ya get a tie ... which is a failure. That's the smallest majority for either party since 1953 but not the smallest ever.
Strong management can still push that stubborn rope and make it work but it won't be easy. And MTG's motion needs to be defeated!

Gallagher's timing tells me everything I need to know. Just like BIden, HIS family is the only thing that matters. He is choosing to leave in a way that makes it impossible for Republicans to fight back. Unless someone in the party can persuade him to leave NOW. Disgusting.
