Former Gov. Larry Hogan (R) announced on Friday that he’s launching a surprise bid for the open Maryland Senate seat, despite speculation that he was considering a third-party presidential bid. “We desperately need leaders willing to stand up to both parties — leaders that appreciate that no one of us has all the answers or all the power, because this is not just about the differences between the right and the left. This is about the difference between right and wrong,” Hogan said in an ad launching his Senate bid posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Hogan is planning to file paperwork ahead

"Though he closed the door on running on the Republican side last year, he suggested he hadn’t completely ruled out the idea of getting in on the lucrative insider trading frenzy alive and well in congress. Not to mention the juicy lucre that can be had by milking donors for all they're worth as a consolation prize", said Hogan in a brief moment of candor.

I don't know how I feel about this. He could win. He was a relatively popular governor; however, he was popular because he was a never Trumper in a state populated by government workers and companies that service the government. He did some good things as a Republican governor. If elected however, he will not always go along with the Trump agenda but will give the Republicans one more senator. It's sort of a crap shoot. If a demoslut is elected, you can count on never getting that person to vote for anything Trump wants, but with Hogan, there's a chance he'll go along and vote for some of Trump's agenda.

I'm not a huge fan of Hogan but I hate to see Dim candidates run for critical offices with only token opposition. They all need to be challenged and Hogan is probably one of the few R's in Maryland who will get some attention.

I'm not a Maryand voter, so I don't have a dog in this fight. But if I were, I'd probably hold my nose and vote for Larry. He'd be an advantage over any of the two Dem Senators they now have. But that ain't saying much. The stray dog running around the neighborhood would be a better Senator that those two.

We are plagued with Rinos and weaklings because we fail to define ourselves, or we've allowed the Left to define us by our most wacko far edge. (yes, we have them, as the Left has their fringe). But the older I get, the more isolationist, libertaian, independent I get. I'll never be D, but I'm off the R thing.

How the Border Crisis Hit a Small Wisconsin Town 2 replies

WHITEWATER, Wis.—The migrants began to trickle into Whitewater, a sleepy town of 15,000 an hour west of Milwaukee, toward the end of 2021. Prior to their arrival, local news and political debates generally revolved around school fundraisers or the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's D3 athletics. Today, residents are focused on their 1,000 new neighbors, who mostly hail from Nicaragua and Venezuela and largely keep to the shadows because they lack official identification. Locals say the real number of migrants in the town could easily be double the number reflected in the police department's official statistics. As the migrant crises in big cities like Chicago and New York

Apple is abandoning its decade-long effort to build an electric car in favor of ramping up efforts on its generative AI projects, according to a report. Apple announced the plans internally on Tuesday, sources told Bloomberg, rattling its nearly 2,000 staffers working on the self-driving vehicle, which was initially intended to launch sometime in 2026. The decision was shared by Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams and Kevin Lynch, a vice president overseeing the effort, the people told Bloomberg, asking not to be identified when discussing private matters. The two Apple executives told staffers that as the Cupertino, Calif.-based company winds down the team working on the car

If millions of immigration-enforcement encounters are a statistic, the murder, by blunt force trauma to the head, of one American young woman is a tragedy. Negligent enforcement policies set by the Biden administration, indulgent “sanctuary” given to lawbreakers by our cities, and abusive appropriation of taxpayer resources to aid aliens in their lawbreaking all likely contributed to the killing of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old Georgia nursing student. Her death is the result of United States policy enabling a criminally minded man who came here to press a bogus asylum claim.

Israeli and Hamas officials have downplayed hopes expressed by Joe Biden that a ceasefire in the war in Gaza is imminent, raising questions about whether a temporary truce can be implemented before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan begins in two weeks’ time. A dramatic poll shows escalating public anger over the federal government’s berserk migration policy — and a sharp rise in GOP concerns about the pocketbook damage of migration. Sixty-one percent of Americans told a Monmouth University poll that they view federal migration policy as a “very serious” issue, according to a press release, which added: The 6 in 10 who describe it as a very serious problem represents a jump from [prior] polls … This rise is most notable among Republicans, from 66% very serious in 2015 to 77% in 2019 and 91% in the current poll. Mary Poppins has had its age rating lifted from U to PG because it contains 'discriminatory language' - but the word in question is so obscure you may have never noticed it. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) now considers the 1964 tale of Julie Andrews' magical nanny to be not suitable for children to watch alone, despite the film enchanting generations of youngsters. The reclassification is due to the use of the word Hottentots. The dated term was historically used by Europeans to refer to the Khoekhoe, a group of nomadic herders in South Africa, but is now regarded as racially offensive.

For almost a century, there has been one constant in American politics: Jews vote for Democrats. There are multiple reasons for this fact but, regardless of the reason, the one thing Democrats could rely on was the Jewish vote. However, the Biden administration’s increasingly open hostility to Israel may be changing that pattern. One poll out of New York shows something remarkable: More than 50% of New York’s Jews plan to vote for Donald Trump! When Eastern European Jews came to America, they were escaping tsarist oppression. For them, the opposite of tsarism was Marxism. This binary viewpoint wasn’t unique to them. In pre-WWII England

It is starting to look like Democrats are ready to give her the heave-ho to give President Biden another shot at putting a Democrat on the Supreme Court. It sounds like Democrats are none too confident that their guy Joe will win re-election in November. So, to head off another Trump nominee to the majority conservative court, Democrats hope that Sotomayor will take the hint and retire. Will it happen? Nah. It's a lifetime appointment. Why should she give that up at the age of 69? She's young compared to other Democrats in top leadership positions
