Someday in the not too distant future, it might no longer be possible to drive a brand-new car faster than 80 mph in California. That's because state senator Scott Wiener earlier this week proposed a new bill that aims to prevent certain new vehicles from going more than 10 mph over the speed limit. (snip) SB 961 that was published Tuesday, (snip) essentially calls for speed governors on new cars and trucks built or sold in California starting with the 2027 model year. These vehicles would be required to have an "intelligent speed limiter system" that electronically prevents the driver from speeding above the aforementioned threshold.

In case you've forgotten who Scott Wiener is, below is a representative excerpt about him from a 06/06/23 Post Millenial article:
On Monday, the California State Legislature honored a member of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence with a community service award, despite nationwide backlash against the anti-Catholic group of drag nuns. The group will also be featured by the LA Dodgers at the Pride night on June 16.
Democrat state rep Scott Wiener presented the official honor to "sister Roma," where he recognized the trans-identified "drag nun" for exceptional service to the community. Wiener has also made the California a "sanctuary state" for children who want to undergo sex changes without parental consent or knowledge.

This will be a good opportunity for people who know how to alter things like speed governors. They might make more money at it than they do stealing catalytic converters. Win win.

Not far down the line will be cars that shut off if you try to drive into a "restricted" area where the rich elite have their mansions. Soon after that your car won't operate outside your "15 minute city" without permission.

And how will that hurt dealerships when people don't want cars with governors? The libs of California are wrecking balls, even to themselves -- how it will affect revenue collected from Highway Patrol tickets years down the road.

Sit on it and rotate, Scott! Let the elites continue with their Great Reset dreams. They'll all fade away when the great MAGA alarm goes off come the first Tuesday in November.

Someday in the not too distant future, we are all going to have to become vehicle computer hackers in order to just operate our privately owned vehicles privately.

Cars read speed limit signs today, but cars have trouble recognizing children. We would all be driving 25 mph past schools on weekends.

Why does anyone still live in that septic tank? They have abandoned any pretext of freedom and just keep pushing the heavy hand of government. They just take and take and restrict and restrict, and the idiots of Kalifornia keep electing them.
Give the whole state to China to pay off the debt. The Kalifornians wouldn't know the difference.

Speeding on most California freeways is not possible unless you are out between 3:00 and 5:00 am. Other than that, your car might as well be a giant snail. These control freaks are ruining the state with their "improvements." The used car market will get bigger and bigger while most new cars will sit on the lots.

If only someone would invent a car that would seek out and run over Democrats no matter what we did to try to stop it, it would be a best seller.

When it comes to interfering in our lives the leftists know no bounds. Laws like this are the end result of creeping socialism that over the decades has gone unchecked. When will the California frogs realize the water is getting hot?

My state has some of the strongest and brave conservatives I have met. Most in rural and outlying towns and places, but we are not enough to fight this nanny state, uber hard left sheeple voting populace. It really sucks. I do love were I live though. In the Sierra mountains with Trump 24 signs everywhere. I moved here during covid out of the heart of Silicon Valley and I am very happy here.

The article states - "A separate report by U.C. Berkley's SafeTREC found that from 2017 to 2021 A separate report by U.C. Berkley's SafeTREC found that from 2017 to 2021 speeding-related deaths in California increased by about 30 percent; nationally they have increased by almost 24 percent during that time."
Did the report state the 30% increase in speeding related deaths do a breakdown on what those causes were? Were the fatalities related to -
1) Drivers being intoxicated, and therefore, speeding?
2) Were any of the fatalities driving on a suspended or restricted license?
3) How many of the fatalities were driving uninsured?
4) Were any of the fatalities related to underage teens driving while impaired?
5) And most importantly, how many fatalities were caused by illegals (or citizens) driving stolen cars in CA while
a) sober
b) intoxicated
c) during the commission of a crime(s)?
@#5 - Regarding revenue collecting - the state will just redirect any 'lost' revenue to other areas of collection, e.g - higher gas taxes, tax/mile, higher yearly registration renewable, etc.
