KYIV, Ukraine – Russian attacks in Ukraine wounded at least 14 civilians over the past day, officials said Saturday, as the president of the European Union’s executive arm returned to the Ukrainian capital to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. (snip) The visit came a week before she was due to present a report on the enlargement of the EU, which von der Leyen said will note Kyiv’s progress on its path to membership in the 27-member bloc. “I must say you have made excellent progress. This is impressive to see,” von der Leyen said after the meeting with Zelenskyy.

Ukraine is more appropriate as a setting for a true-to-life John Wick movie than a stable nation prepared to exist with other stable nations. But, perhaps that's the point. Bring in a wild, unmanaged, and (is there a darker word than corrupt) corrupt kleptocracy to further destabilize Western Europe. It seems not to be a bug, but a feature.

I have nothing but sympathy for the people of Ukraine and their struggle for independence from Putin's Russia, and none for their corrupt government, up to and including Z and his shopping wife. The brakes should be slammed on any Ukrainian membership in the European Union or NATO until the Ukrainians themselves eradicate high corruption. That isn't going to happen anytime soon.

The timing here is just splendid. According to multiple MSM sources, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is scheduled to endorse Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the 2024 GOP nomination. The endorsement is scheduled to be announced tomorrow in Iowa. This endorsement comes on the heels of a recent Morning Consult poll [SEE HERE] showing Governor Kim Reynolds is “America’s most unpopular governor.”😂🤣😂 How appropriate is that?(snip)You might remember when I said, and repeated, to “watch the RGA.” Well, surprise, surprise, guess who is the current RGA Chair? The conversations have included very broad outlines of what Ukraine might need to give up to reach a deal, the officials said. (snip)The Biden administration does not have any indication that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate with Ukraine, two U.S. officials said. Western officials say Putin still believes he can “wait out the West,” or keep fighting until the U.S. and its allies lose domestic support for funding Ukraine or the struggle to supply Kyiv with weapons and ammunition becomes too costly, officials said.

How’s that war on Russia going, Neocons? The collective West is ever more urgently seeking an exit strategy from Ukraine. The concern among the ruling classes is to somehow sell to their publics that this war hasn’t turned—predictably—into a massive geopolitical debacle and defeat. ‘It’s a stalemate, not a defeat!’ is the cry that we’re hearing—from Time, NBC, The Economist, FT, etc. You can read about the hand wringing here: Game Over: US, European Officials Quietly Nudge Ukraine To Seek Peace The Russian response has been to ridicule the West, which is entirely understandable.

Today we follow on from yesterday’s War On Russia, War Among The Jews. In his Farewell Address of 1796, Geo. Washington famously warned Americans against “the party spirit”, linking that spirit to the danger of foreign entanglements. Washington was a guy who knew whereof he spoke. The young American Republic had achieved its independence with the significant aid of foreign powers (France, Spain) and after suppressing significant internal opposition from Loyalists. In succeeding decades of the 19th century the United States was forced to thread the needle of military preparedness (Barbary Pirates) and involvement in the Napoleonic Wars (War of 1812). The US Civil War featured attempted foreign intervention once again.

New research may explain why some individuals experience a rare and often fatal blood clotting disorder after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. In a recent study published Oct. 26 in the peer-reviewed journal Blood, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research and the British Heart Foundation, scientists from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom identified a new mechanism of platelet activation in vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (VITT). VITT is a clinical syndrome associated with COVID-19 vaccines that is characterized by thrombosis, or blood clots, at uncommon sites and mild to severe thrombocytopenia.

This is, well, too full of smiles to adequately describe. Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz delivered a resoundingly honest speech to the Republican attendees at the Florida Freedom Summit on Saturday. It is well worth the time to watch, as prompted. Look, I’m still on the fence with this guy, but his brutal confrontation of the GOPe is some of the funniest and best components of the BIG UGLY so far. The guy has been put through the wringer, hit from every angle, ridiculed by both the left and right, and yet he’s standing there snarking brutal one-liners in their faces while sipping their tears.

If Biden and McConnell are willing to block U.S. aid to Israel as the latter fights for its very survival, then Johnson should force them to do it. Johnson shouldn’t waste time engaging in behind-closed-doors negotiations, which Republicans always lose.

A three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has lifted District Judge Tanya Chutkan’s gag order prohibiting Trump from criticizing the special counsel, Jack Smith, or “any foreseeable witness” in the case. [2-Page Opinion Here] In my opinion, it was the generalized “foreseeable witness” part of the Chutkan order that became the central issue for the appellate court. Jack Smith could name anyone as a potential witness, just to silence the accused. President Trump’s team previously indicated in their filing to the appeals court that they are prepared to seek immediate relief at the Supreme Court. At least 200 million people worldwide could be forced out of their coastal city homes after scientists revealed they are sinking by up to five centimeters per year. Researchers at the University of Rhode Island analyzed 99 places, finding that most are sinking faster than sea levels are rising, but 34 locations are dropping by more than one centimeter per year. The team uncovered four sinking 'hot spot' cities in Bangladesh, China, the Philippines and Pakistan, with yearly subsidence rates of up to five centimeters.

CHICAGO — Sophee Langerman was on her way to a bicycle safety rally in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood in June when a car turning right rolled through a red light and slammed into her bike, which she was walking off the curb and into the crosswalk. The car was moving slowly enough that Langerman escaped serious injury, but the bicycle required extensive repairs. To Langerman, it’s another argument for ending a practice that almost all U.S. cities have embraced for decades: the legal prerogative for a driver to turn right after stopping at a red light. In public education’s latest blunder, the Oregon Department of Education has just decided that basic reading, writing and math skills are not required for students to graduate with a high school diploma. Prior to the passage of Senate Bill 744 in the Oregon Legislative Assembly’s 2021 session, the state’s “Assessment of Essential Skills” requirement for high school graduation was sensible: “read and comprehend a variety of text, write clearly and accurately,” and “apply mathematics in a variety of settings.” Students were required to demonstrate these skills by “earning at or above a cut score on the Oregon Statewide Summative Assessment test.”

Combine that cleverness with the fact that he truly dislikes Israel and has aligned himself with those countries and groups that wish to destroy the country, complete with the genocide of all of its inhabitants, and you end up with someone who covertly signals to Israel’s enemies his ideological allegiance with them, even while seemingly treading a morally meaningless line right down the middle. Those of us who have paid close attention to Obama over the years know that he dislikes Jews and Israel. Here

Instead of moving forward and returning to normalcy, health officials double down on precautionary measures to “limit the spread of RSV, the flu and COVID.” This month, Santa Clara County decided that everyone — patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers alike — must don the all-too-familiar face masks in public patient care areas in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. This directive is not for a week or a month but for the entire “winter respiratory virus period,” Mercury News reported. This mandate is slated to span from November 1 to the end of March. That’s a whole five months of mask-wearing, in spite of declining COVID cases.
