Multiple law firms have announced plans to potentially launch legal action against Hawaiian Electric, claiming the state's largest power supplier may be at fault for the unprecedented wildfires on the island of Maui.
At least one class action lawsuit is reportedly being considered, which could see the company blamed for the disaster that has so far killed at least 80 people and razed over 2,200 buildings to the ground.
'From what we’ve learned, we believe the Lahaina fires could have been prevented had proper safety precautions been taken,' said Gerald Singleton, a lawyer involved with the potential legal action, to the New York Times.

Lawyers….the land is still smoking, bodies are still being found and what do we hear from those scions of the courtroom? Class Action Lawsuit!! There’s a special place in Hell for these blood-sucking monsters.

they had 80 mile an hour winds that probably brought down some power lines but i dont see how switching of the power after the fire was started would have made a difference

Hmmm. And if they HAD switched them off, they'd have cut off whatever water pumping might have been possible, and my bet is that would be considered even worse.
I still want to know if an e-bike or EV auto may have just burst into flames and set this whole thing off.

You just knew that the ambulance chasing weasels would come looking to sue somebody, anybody with deep pockets. This bunch have managed to destroy any sense of honesty and integrity that the legal profession once enjoyed. Look at most of the hack politicians and cohorts in DC now. 90% are lawyers.

Funny, but I read these fires may have been deliberately set - as were Canada's.

#2 makes the point. Here in SoCal, SDG&E took the blame for the Witch Creek fire several years ago when high - really high - winds caused swinging high-tension lines to make contact and shower sparks onto the dry grass below. Lesson learned, so now when the wind kicks up they selectively kill the power to lower the risk of fire. The reaction from the low-info consumers? "You can't do that and leave us without power!"

They haven't even counted the dead, or accounted for all the residents, yet the Ambulance Chasers have already zeroed in on a deep pocketed target of opportunity. Forget blaming this on a cow or other animal, that would be so, "1800's Chicago style," and in the 21st Century the legal profession is all about going after who has the biggest insurance policy.
Those pictures remind me of the "Three Little Pigs Song" and its line, "I build my house of sticks..."

Native Hawians and held tight to this area, and refused to sell for decades. Then this fire happened.

Wow! The bodies haven't even stopped burning and the ambulance chasing vultures are already plotting their money grab from this tragedy. Talk about a profession with no scrupples.

Utility companies have lots of money so of course the lawyers are going after the dollars when it was probably some arsonist its or maybe just a freak accident.
BTW - And what is with the hosts on Fox and Friends weekend morning telling listeners that these are American citizens - Does Joey Jones and Will Cain think we're that stupid? The last straw for Fox News.

The locals refused to sell to developers for decades. These are native Hawaiians and many others such as Puerto Ricans and Japanese who came to work on the plantations when they were there. How convenient that there was a fire to clear these folks out.

If #13 is correct, this fire would be a convenient way to "free up" the land so developers can come in and make a fortune. Just burn it all down, rid yourself of a bunch of the recalcitrant land owners and swoop in and buy it up, and slap in a few dozen highrise hotels and make a few tens of billions on the burnt corpses of those 'little people' who got in the way.
Just a theory at this point, but it sure wouldn't surprise me.
