A battery of heavy machinery and submarines dubbed the 'last chance' for the crew of the Titan tourist submarine arrived in Canada tonight - but it now faces a race against time to help rescuers in the desperate search.
The array of winches, cables and unmanned vehicles capable of going 19,000 feet underwater were delivered to St John's airport in Newfoundland by three US Air Force cargo planes.
It was taken with a police escort to the port where a waiting ship, the Horizon Arctic, was due to set sail at midnight.

Who’s paying for all of this?

If this works I’m fairly confident the billionaires will reimburse the rescue cost. For me the question is why it took so long to get this effort started.

Silly me, but with such a fragile craft and an unforgiving ocean, seems I'd have the boat with the equipment on hand when the craft sails. Seriously, my prayers for those on the boat and those who will also risk their lives to save them.
But then, I guess they'd have to increase the "fare" for the guests from $250,000 to $300,000 or something like that.
I don't know about you, but if I'm paying $250,000 to ride in a boat, there'd better be a pretty girl serving me free drinks.

If they manage to get rescued, they need to be charged ALL costs associated with the rescue....from what I read about them they can afford it...

I believe they are all dead. I'll bet the vessel had some kind catastrophic hull or system failure. Being a former US submariner I wouldn't get in something like that let alone do any kind of dive. Ignorance to the bone.

I’m just claustrophobic enough to not be able to get in something like this, and the thought of being trapped waiting for the air to run out is horrific and give me the chills. Hoping for a successful rescue, but the odds are not good.

I find it hard to believe that if the sub lost contact with the support ship for even 15 minutes it would not surface immediately and automatically. I presume a malfunction.

So, we're going to spend untold millions to retrieve a sub full of dead bodies in a sub that had no business doing this stunt.

Almost sounds to me like a fool proof plan to get rid of a few wealthy guys. And like above commenter asked, why did it take so long to arrange this? None of this makes sense.

Re #1, just like someone gets stuck on a ledge somewhere....the money gets spent to save them. All sorts of rescues cost money, but this one will be a doozy.
