President Biden is expected to pick North Carolina’s former health secretary — who pushed aggressive COVID restrictions during the pandemic — as his next director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Mandy Cohen, who served as the Tar Heel State’s top health official from 2017 to 2021, will join the agency as its current director, Rochelle Walensky departs at a time of declining public trust. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra spoke with Cohen earlier this week to congratulate her on the nomination, according to the Washington Post, which first reported the news.

Why do these headlines say "Biden's pick." We all know he isn't doing the picking. He's just the front man.

Mandy's as disingenuous as they come - she'll twist and turn and spout whatever propaganda the Administration requires, much as she did for Cooper here in NC. I would say I'm happy she's no longer NC's problem except that now she's a problem for all of us...! greyseal

An Arkansas thug who tried to victimize an out-of-town family during their Memorial Day visit to Little Rock got more than he bargained for when an armed mom reacted to being attacked in a parking garage by fighting back, with the pregnant mom pulling a gun and shooting the attacker. The incident went down at a River Market public garage when the family was packing up after spending the day celebrating the birthday of a seven-year-old girl. They were confronted by the criminal who assaulted them, striking the father several times as he was loading a wagon onto the top of the vehicle.

On Thursday’s broadcast of NPR’s “Morning Edition,” White House National Economic Council Deputy Director Bharat Ramamurti stated that the Biden administration plans to try to get some of the concessions it made in the debt limit bill back in future legislation. Host Leila Fadel asked, “A lot of progressives, including your former boss, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), are really unhappy. She called parts of the deal, ‘really bad’ because of the work requirements for people seeking food relief, concessions on student debt repayments, climate change, and no new taxes on the wealthy. Several thousand illegal migrants protested in Florida’s streets against Gov. Ron DeSantis’s state law that may shrink illegal immigration to the state. The strikers’ hope for a massive, economy-jarring, state-wide “walkout” failed because the hard-working, wage-cutting illegal aliens are not critical to any section of the U.S. economy, except the fruit-growing sector. Perhaps 10,000 illegal aliens — including many family members — turned out for the June 1 “Day Without Immigrants” protest. Most of the turnout took place in the Immokalee agriculture district where farmers prefer cheap and disposable workers over U.S-built, labor-saving harvesting machines. Many of the illegal migrants waived their home-country flags: [video] Some businesses supported the protest,

A recent review of court records reveals an alarming trend at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) concerning its treatment of January 6 Capitol riot defendants. Federal prosecutors have deployed a tactic of seeking to impose fines on defendants, in addition to their prison sentences with the alleged goal of preventing them from financially benefiting from their participation in the 2021 events in DC, especially in cases where the accused has received a court-appointed public defender. Attorneys for the defendants see the DOJ’s fine requests as impairing rights to legal representation. Legitimate Fundraising? Shortly after pleading guilty to his involvement in the events at the U.S. Capitol,

It’s rare that President Joe Biden goes a week without making a fool of himself and the country. This week, was no exception. After suffering from a series of misfortunate accidents, it has become apparent that Biden is not fit to make decisions for the U.S. Hours after Biden’s fall that sent him flying across the stage during the Air Force Academy commencement ceremony, the 80 year-old president hit his head while exiting Marine One. Reporters watched on the South Lawn of the White House as Biden hit his forehead while stepping out of the helicopter. He then rubbed his head where it was hit and continued to walk.

I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that some semblance of order may be restored at the border. The bad news is that our government may have nothing to do with it. “Order,” such as it is, may be imposed by the cartels at a massive price. The fact that some states are sending their National Guard units to secure the border may pay off in more ways than just apprehending illegals, traffickers, and potential terrorists because according to the Mexican news outlet Milenio, the cartels at the border are armed with military-grade equipment, including rocket launchers.
New Poll on Transgender Rights Shows Americans
Are Not 'Deeply Divided' on the Issue

Recent polling on transgender rights has been fairly uniform, but you won’t see that reflected in the headlines touting the surveys. “Americans’ Complex Views on Gender Identity and Transgender Issues,” read a headline from Pew Research last year. In fact, the only issue on which Americans even slightly disagree is whether transgender people should be protected from discrimination. Otherwise, 60% believe a person’s sex is assigned at birth, and even larger percentages say that trans athletes should compete against others of their birth gender. There’s nothing really “complex” about how Americans feel when it comes to transgender issues. Nor are they really “divided” as NPR reporting on the same poll claims.

After sales dropped for the sixth straight week, industry analysts are likening the backlash to Bud Light’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney to what happened in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina. "This could be a promotional summer the likes we haven’t seen since after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, where there was so much beer inventory backed up in the trade that it initiated the price war of all price wars," Beer Business Daily said, explaining that "large price wars are often sparked by external events—in that case Hurricane Katrina, and in this case Hurricane Mulvaney." But the “external event” in 2023 is only hitting one company,

Hey, does anyone know if they sell Bud Light at Target? I need to make a beer run. But seriously folks, consumers who are not particularly rainbow-minded will run out of places to shop if this keeps up. Either more stores are betting on their ESG scores over consumer traffic or people are just getting more attuned to the prevalence of the new normal not only in society but also in retail. Shoppers can add Kohl’s to the list of entities where they would never be caught dead, right behind Bud Light, the Dodgers, and Target.

Over the long holiday weekend, fifty-three Americans were indeed shot in Chicago alone.

Over-one third of Democrats disagree with laws protecting children from “sex-change” surgery, a Rasmussen Reports survey released Thursday found. The survey asked respondents if they approve or disapprove of legislation making it illegal to perform sex-change surgeries on minors. Overall, 62 percent at least somewhat approve of those laws, and of those, 46 percent “strongly” approve. Another 30 percent at least somewhat disapprove, but that figure is even higher among Democrats, specifically, as 35 percent at least somewhat disapprove of laws preventing children from mutilating their bodies in the name of “gender-affirmation.”
