They’re joining the chain gang.
Desperate Bronx grocers are cracking down on serial thieves by slipping steel chains through the handles of laundry detergent bottles and securing them with padlocks — a new low in the shoplifting scourge across the Big Apple. (Snip) A group representing 4,000 independent grocers is demanding that “repeat theft offenders” be made bail eligible, undoing part of the bail reform legislation — and addressing the fact that petty thieves tend not to be prosecuted.“They know that they could steal at less than $1,000, and they know they’ll get away,” cried Rodriguez. “The bail has to be changed. They’ve got to punish [these] people.”

Before the advent of Piggly-Wiggly, stores kept all their ware behind the counters. You told the clerk what you wanted, they pulled the item and set it on the counter for you to purchase.
Seems to me, this would still work for inner city bodegas.

I don't feel bad for any person living, working or owning a business in NYC. This is EXACTLY what you dumbass people vote for over and over and over again. Voting the same way and expecting change for the better doesn't work. Why don't you dumb, stupid, ignorant people try voting for a strong law and order candidate? Y'all are so busy being diversive and inclusive, you don't know right from wrong anymore.

The level of the cesspool continues to rise. Was it Hussein that said, Elections Have Consequences? Enjoy the downfall.

FTA: “Before the pandemic, New York was the best. Now, I don’t know what happened to the people,” huffed Collado.
WRONG! Let me educate you, Señor Collado. The "pandemic" had nothing to do with it. You had 20 years of safety and prosperity - - when Giuliani and Bloomberg were mayors - - then you elected a communist mayor and a leninist city council - - and all hell broke loose. You compounded that by electing a blithering idiot as mayor - - and keeping the leninists on the city council.
Wake up! You have to stop electing commies - - or better yet - - move the hell out of that commie-run city. Nothing will get better - - until you do either - - or both.

Our country is devolving into a lawless mess thanks to leftist “tolerance”. I am not at all sure we can survive.

But it’s all a part of changing voter demographics. Conservatives will not tolerate these crimes and no punishment for this kind of thing, and they will move out of these cities in droves and that leaves behind democrats who will vote for their party because they get immunity. Brilliant.

Homemade is better and cheaper. A cup of Borax, a cup of washing soda and 1/3 bar of Fels Naptha grated, added to water to make 2 gallons. Costs maybe 5 cents a load. Been using it for years and have no detergent residue to make clothes dingy, so you have to buy something to get rid of that.

Another but bigger Detroit coming unless they wake up. They won’t and the city will continue to fail. Net loss of almost half a million and most of those were productive tax payers with the means and ability to move to red states.
I was there many years ago and thought it was the greatest place in the world. Never again. An American tragedy courtesy of our “compassionate “ left.

Theres that word again. I managed to go my whole 62 years without ever hearing the word bodega. Then some guy got shot in one and the media seems to be looking for reasons to say that word, kind of like nor'easter or blachawk down or el nino. And we are all supposed to know what those things are.
Please find some other "must say" words. Like maybe some that are used in the interior.

A thousand people stealing $1000 worth of merchandise is a lot of merchandise.

Heartland words, do you recognize them? I didn't, but I'm from the South. Does that count as Heartland?
