PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Golfers were sent scrambling for safety as massive waves overtook an ocean-front golf course during one of a series of atmospheric rivers to slam into California in recent weeks.
The group was completing the 14th hole at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club in Pebble Beach when a video recorded by Peter Butler shows the group was sent running for higher ground.
Butler began filming the unruly ocean crashing onto the normally serene golf course to document the wild weather. He can be heard describing the "45-foot waves" and soon realizing they needed to move fast.
"It's going to hit us, dude," someone in the video says

Quit complaining and keep playing as the Rules of Golf allow for relief from casual water. It's not bad weather until it's raining horizontally. You just can't please some golfers. Playing at Pebble Beach - enjoy it.

God controls the weather. He must be angry with California.

Hey, it's just another "hazard" to play on a California golf course, along with needles, drug paraphernalia, and homeless addicts stealing golf balls for fentanyl.

Best to just let the waves play through. At least you don't have ball stealing alligators to contend with!!

That salt water isn’t good for the grass.

The one thing I remember most from my days of USAF weather school at Chanute AFB, IL, was the answer to the question "How did you get all these fantastic photos of tornadoes?" Answer: "From the cameras of dead people."

I remember when atmospheric rivers were called rainstorms. Guess that doesn’t sound scary enough.

On the 18th hole at Pebble Beach, the retaining wall that protects much of the 18th hole and green has a curved shape to direct the wave back onto itself. Kind of like a backwards C. Even at low tide, the waves hit fairly close to that wall. I've not seen any video of the 18th hole yet. I'll have to check out the webcam from Pebble Beach.

No wonder they were able to get a Tee Time on short notice, bet they don't get a refund either.
Green fees are $595, plus $45 per person to use a cart, caddies are another $95 plus tip(walking the course with a caddy to coach your club selection, explain the approaches and greens, tell you stories, and prolong your 'experience' a bit is the better option, methinks). If you book a room the cart is gratis, but the room costs between $650-1900.00 per night.

As the above poster says , the rain check could be worth as much as a nice car payment.

Don't they listen to the news/weather? I live in Missouri and knew cyclones would be hitting the CA coast.

#9, only stupid people would pay those kinds of costs. Golf is golf.

Why has California been singled out for the current barrage of multiple disasters?

I walked the course #12 and it didn't cost me a dime to do so. People walk their dogs on the course since it's a public course. I did notice that almost every foursome that ended their round, posed for a picture on the eighteenth green. The scenery is spectacular and if you're a golfer, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to play a course that hosted many a professional tournament where all the great golfers have played without having to be a member of that country club. So, while the cost is expensive, they memories will last a lifetime.

“No one was hurt, but the group decided to call it a day on their round of golf.” Sissies. I would have played through.

That Pebble Beach golf course superintendent is no doubt very concerned about all that sea water washing over his fine turf, especially with the famous AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am slated to start January 30.

It didn't look like a 45 foot wave, more like 4.5 feet.
