Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California warned Monday that President Biden's plan to reverse former President Donald Trump's border policies could "break" his state. The Biden administration is planning to lift the Trump-era Title 42 policy, which allows police and border officers to expedite the expulsion of illegal immigrants.
Newsom, speaking to ABC News on Monday, said, "The fact is, what we’ve got right now is not working and is about to break in a post-42 world unless we take some responsibility and ownership." "I'm saying that as a father," the governor added. "I'm saying that as someone that feels responsible for being part of the solution and

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) stated Monday he will consider leaving the Democrat Party ahead of a heated 2024 Senate reelection bid.
“I’ll look at all of these things. I’ve always looked all [sic] these things but I have no intention of doing anything right now,” Manchin commented, according to the Hill. Manchin left open the possibility he might follow Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s (I-AZ) decision to leave the Democrat Party ahead of his election but said that decision will come in the future. “Whether I do something later, I can’t tell you what the future’s going to bring. I can only tell you where I am

An odd moment between Joe and Jill Biden has lit up social media, after she appeared to hand him a mystery object ahead of his big speech celebrating the signing of the Respect For Marriage Act.
Biden, 80, who has faced much scrutiny for both his age and gaffes, immediately ate whatever his wife Jill gave him before his speech to celebrate the bill protecting same-sex and interracial marriage at the White House.

The City of Denver continues to call on nonprofits and religious groups to help out as it struggles to meet the needs of migrants. They are arriving by the dozens this month, and it's likely this is just the beginning. The city says 600 migrants have arrived in Denver in the recent months. Right now more than 150 are being accommodated at the city's emergency shelter. A total of 48 others have been relocated to a church-run shelter, and another 52 migrants arrived earlier this week at local homeless shelters. The city's main focus now is getting those who need

Oregon governor Kate Brown said Tuesday that the state’s 17 death-row inmates will be spared execution and will instead have their sentences downgraded to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“I have long believed that justice is not advanced by taking a life, and the state should not be in the business of executing people — even if a terrible crime placed them in prison,” the outgoing Democratic governor said in a statement.
She added: “This commutation is not based on any rehabilitative efforts by the individuals on death row. Instead, it reflects the recognition that the death penalty is immoral. It is an irreversible punishment

The U.S. Energy Department said on Monday it had finalized a $2.5 billion low-cost loan to a joint venture of General Motors Co and LG Energy Solution to help pay for three new lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facilities.
Reuters first reported in July the planned loan to Ultium Cells LLC from the government's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) loan program.
The loan will help finance construction of new lithium-ion manufacturing facilities in Ohio, Tennessee and Michigan, supporting 6,000 construction jobs and 5,100 operations jobs at the three plants.
U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm plans to tout the closing of the Ultium loan on a visit to Michigan on Monday with Labor Department Deputy

President Joe Biden has reportedly resorted to expletives when he became frustrated at the discourse around his age, as Democrats continue to speculate if he can run for re-election in 2024.
Biden, who turned 80 in November, would be 82 years old if he wins and takes office in 2025. He is already the oldest man ever elected president of the United States.
Though he was prone to gaffes long before he became president, he has given some reason for concern as he occupies the Oval Office.
Some of the more worrisome mistakes have included Biden repeating that his son Beau, who died of cancer, perished while serving in Iraq;

President Joe Biden attacked the 'extreme' Supreme Court for threatening rights and vowed to protect transgender children under threat from 'cynical' Republican laws as he signed a bill protecting same-sex and interracial marriage at a White House ceremony with Cyndi Lauper and Sam Smith.
In front of a crowd of drag queens and LGBTQ rights supporters, he went after GOP-led efforts to have the government intervene in gender-affirming care for minors - which have risen 13-fold in the last decade according to a recent study.

The Washington Post Guild went into Wednesday’s town hall with a plan Anticipating that publisher Fred Ryan wasn’t going to take live questions—he wasn’t so happy the last time he was publicly confronted by a staffer in such a forum—they’d crowd-sourced a list of questions in advance and got more than 70 staffers to send a version of these questions to HR, according to a member of the Guild. The Guild had 10 designated questioners who would pop up during the Q&A portion of Wednesday’s town hall. But when that time came, after an hour-plus meeting of presentations for various initiatives, like the Post’s climate coverage and David Shipley’s plans

Sam Bankman-Fried, the owner of the failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has been denied bail after his arrest in the Bahamas at the request of the U.S. government on Monday.
In a hearing that lasted more than three hours on Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt ruled that Bankman-Fried’s $250,000 bail request would be denied on the basis that Bankman-Fried poses a flight risk because of his access to financial resources.
The judge ordered the 30-year-old to be remanded to a Bahamas correctional facility until Feb. 8, 2023.

The FBI may have may have violated the First Amendment by asking Twitter to moderate certain speech, as revealed in a recent "Twitter Files" release, constitutional experts tell Fox News Digital.
A Twitter Files installment released by Substack journalist Matt Taibbi last week revealed Twitter’s former head of safety, Yoel Roth, apparently attended weekly meetings with the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the Director of National Intelligence about moderating misinformation ahead of the 2020 election.
