Oregon governor Kate Brown said Tuesday that the state’s 17 death-row inmates will be spared execution and will instead have their sentences downgraded to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“I have long believed that justice is not advanced by taking a life, and the state should not be in the business of executing people — even if a terrible crime placed them in prison,” the outgoing Democratic governor said in a statement.
She added: “This commutation is not based on any rehabilitative efforts by the individuals on death row. Instead, it reflects the recognition that the death penalty is immoral. It is an irreversible punishment

“I have long believed that justice is not advanced by taking a life, and the state should not be in the business of executing people." Unless of course they are an innocent baby in the womb. Then without exception they should be done away with if that's what the mother wants.

Life without parole is a death sentence, and is cheaper than modern executions.

It's not like they were actually carrying out any of these sentences anyway.

In 2016, Multnomah County (Portland) voted 80 percent for the queen bee, Hillary. I’m sure Biden had a similar margin. Oregon cannot be fixed.

Justice is also not advanced by disregarding the decisions made by judges and juries.

By changing to life instead of death then many activists will pay much less attention to the possible wrongly convicted.

Yet Oregon will use taxpayers' money to pay all expenses for women who live in pro-life states to travel to Oregon for abortions.

Strangely, I do not have a problem with this. For some of these monsters, death is the easy way out. They want it. Don't give it to them. Make them live with what they have done for the rest of their lives. Never let them forget it. Make them deal with the consequences of their actions every day. They do not deserve mercy.

Kate is now playing God. Justice is served by the jury who decides what the punishment is to be.
But hey mom you want to murder your unborn child then no problem. That’s health care at its best.

You can bet your tax dollars someone will figure out a way to get around the no possibility of parole...just put them down and save the taxpayer money...what does it cost a year to keep them around? Just asking for a taxpayer...

FTA: ''...will instead have their sentences downgraded to life in prison without the possibility of parole.''
You believe that? Give them enough time and the stupid leftwing America-hating democrats in that stupid state will be paroling these scum left and right. It's what they do. And the decent people of Oregon that don't like this? ''Just shut up and pay your taxes!''

If the price for wantonly taking the life of an innocent victim is not the life of the murderer, life itself is devalued. Oregon is well along on the road to barbarism. Twenty years ago a fairly successful local restauranteur, originally from Philly, started bellyaching about Florida and got a hankering to move to Oregon. So he did, and I never heard from him again. I wonder what he thinks now. Most eastern Oregonians want to become a part of Idaho now. Why they want that is perfectly understandable.

Perhaps if we have their prison cells identify as a transexual birthing person's womb, then aborting them would be acceptable?

Kate don't have any respect for Oregon juries, or the Oregon legislature. From this moment, they are dispensed with, and Kate Brown will edict how things are to be done. This is what Oregonian's want. Kate supports abortion, so that is ok to take the lives of the unborn.

Although it doesn’t seem to matter to liberals, Scripture teaches:
Genesis 9:6 - Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
Exodus 21:12 - He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.
Exodus 20:13 - Thou shalt not kill.

So-called primitive societies used banishment in lieu of execution. We could do the same, with a twist. Declare the criminals to be dead. Provide sustenance to the bodies, but nothing more: no tv, no visitors, no mail, no library, no workouts, no lawyers. Now THAT would be a deterrent.

Funny how they're against death row but will fight to the death for death roe.
FYI...two and a half years ago, in Washington state, activists went before our State Supreme Court to petition to have all prisoners over the age of 55yrs old released because of covid. By a vote of 5 to 4 they were turned down. So, by exactly one vote, the Green River Killer, convicted of murdering 50 women (and suspected of killing 100) would have been released. Also, a monster by the name of David Rice Lewis who on Christmas Eve 1985, invaded a home and murdered the family living there, the parents and their two young sons, would have also been released. So, life in prison doesn't mean anything to liberals just a delaying tactic until they can get all monsters released from prison to prey upon the innocent.

once again, the victims are the forgotten parties of a crime and
the death sentence was a mandate from "the people of Oregon"
a decision made following a trial where a preponderance of evidence was sufficient enough for these people to invoke the sentence that was then passed down by the trial judge,
absolutely nothing confusing about that plus
in legal circumstances the state must be the executioner or would this Governor rather have the posse arrive and administer the death sentence

It's a shame that someone couldn't have walked by the cells with a Glock with a single magazine, putting a single round into the head of each one before her order came down.
