Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York unsealed charges against disgraced FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, charging him with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and securities fraud, standalone charges of securities fraud and wire fraud, money laundering, and significantly, conspiracy to defraud the United States and campaign finance regulations. The eight charges form the bedrock of the attempt by U.S. prosecutors to pursue Bankman-Fried for his alleged crimes. Federal prosecutors say that Bankman-Fried had been engaging in criminal activity as far back as 2019. I know this is a contrarian take, but stick with me here.
A lot of noise was made about a fusion energy breakthrough, but I hate to tell you that for all the hoopla the results they announced were actually a big dud. I know, I know. We all desperately want fusion energy to be the next big thing. And we should want that, because the promise of the technology is nearly beyond comprehension. While it will never be “too cheap to meter,” because the costs for building a fusion plant will still have to be paid for and harvesting the fuel will never be free, fusion does promise
The Donald to the rescue? Former President Donald Trump teased an upcoming announcement with a superhero-themed video Wednesday, baiting his Truth Social followers with a promise of a major announcement the following day.
In the 15-second clip, the 76-year-old Trump told viewers that “America needs a superhero!” Fantastical music blared as the screen cut away to an animation of the former president posing like Superman in front of Trump Tower, tearing open his business suit to reveal a chiseled T-logo bodysuit and laser-like eyes.
He’s making all the right moves. Senator Tim Scott’s colleagues are voicing their support for him to throw his hat in the ring in the GOP 2024 presidential primary. It’s an interesting idea.
Senator Scott (R-SC) is receiving support from mainstream Republicans like Joni Ernst (R-IA) and John Barrasso (R-WY) and even fellow South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is waiting to see “what Tim does” before he makes any endorsements. Graham basically attached himself to the hip of Donald Trump so that’s a bit of a surprise. Trump has already announced his candidacy. Only one senator has endorsed him so far – Senator Tommy Tuberville.

The U.S. Energy Department said on Monday it had finalized a $2.5 billion low-cost loan to a joint venture of General Motors Co and LG Energy Solution to help pay for three new lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facilities.
Reuters first reported in July the planned loan to Ultium Cells LLC from the government's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing (ATVM) loan program.
The loan will help finance construction of new lithium-ion manufacturing facilities in Ohio, Tennessee and Michigan, supporting 6,000 construction jobs and 5,100 operations jobs at the three plants.

Sam Bankman-Fried, the owner of the failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has been denied bail after his arrest in the Bahamas at the request of the U.S. government on Monday.
